POSITION TITLE: Program Coordinator

Global Greengrants Fund is a public foundation that supports grassroots activists and civil society organizations working to address environmental and social justice issues in the global south. The Global Greengrants Fund believes that grassroots activism is key to solving seemingly intractable problems and halting cycles of poverty, powerlessness and environmental destruction. Working with an international network of advisors, we overcome the barriers to grassroots grantmaking by identifying viable and effective organizations and providing small grants to these organizations at minimal cost. These grants offer hope and tap the energy of communities where other sources of support are scant at best, or completely unavailable.

The position of Program Coordinator offers a unique opportunity for the ideal candidate who wishes to commit their skills, intelligence and heart to the mission of addressing environmental and social justice issues in the global south. The successful candidate will join the Program Department based in Boulder, Colorado, reporting to the Director of Programs.

Role
The Program Coordinator is responsible for all aspects of grantmaking, including coordinating the work and capacity building of our global network of advisors in making grants, helping to shape grantmaking strategy, evaluating the results of grantmaking and interpreting them to other staff and donors, managing staff and consultants around the world, and planning and budgeting. The Program Coordinator will manage communications within our advisory network and develop and implement systems that enable advisors to more effectively network and exchange information and ideas

The Program Coordinator works in an integrated team with volunteer advisors, overseas partner institutions, and administrative and development staff to ensure high quality grantmaking and mobilization of sufficient resources to support the program.

Responsibilities
1. Facilitate the grantmaking work of coordinators and advisors around the world to make effective environment and social change grants;

2. Strengthen the capacity of Greengrants’ global advisory network to make strategic small grants; mobilize resources; and evaluate their work;

3. Support an advisor-led process to track grantmaking progress and analyze the results of Greengrants’ grantmaking;

4. Organize meetings, exchanges, and other opportunities to strengthen learning within our advisory network;

5. Support the Director of Programs in planning and budgeting for program related activities to ensure that they are coordinated with our advisory network, address global trends, and promote Greengrants’ mission;

6. Support fundraising staff in communicating program values, strategies and results as well as regional and thematic issues to donors;

7. Support the growth of the Greengrants Alliance of Funds and build the capacity of grantmaking organizations in the Global South to leverage funds;

8. In coordination with fundraising staff, support Greengrants’ Donor Advised grantmaking by working with donors, managing consultants, and evaluating projects.

Qualifications
1. Minimum of six years of experience working with NGOs and activists around the world to promote and support social change;

2. Advanced degree or equivalent experience in relevant discipline, such as natural resources, social sciences or international affairs;

3. Understanding of social and environmental issues in the Global South;

4. Demonstrated experience in raising and leveraging funds, especially from institutional donors;

5. Excellent communication skills – written and oral;

6. Previous staff and budget management experience;

7. Proven ability to think innovatively and strategically;

8. Fluency in English and at least one other language (French, Russian, or Chinese preferred);

9. Experience coordinating international and/or grassroots networks desired;

10. Knowledgeable about and committed to the mission of Greengrants;

11. Willingness and ability to travel internationally.
