Our Global Advisory Board brings together representatives of five international groups, each with a particular focus. International Rivers Network, for instance, is in close touch with grassroots and regional activists working to protect communities from ill-considered dam projects. Pesticide Action Network helps people reduce use of agricultural toxins and keeps in close touch with consumer, labor, health, environment and agriculture groups. In the course of their work, these global advisors are frequently presented with opportunities to support fledgling groups, but they do not always have the resources to help directly. By pointing Global Greengrants Fund toward these groups, our global advisors can channel funding to the right places and also facilitate the growth of groups that may later become important members of their own networks. Members of our Global Advisory Board all share recognition of the value of networks and a commitment to nurturing them. Networks are fundamental elements of their own work, and this makes them natural participants in the broader networks that Global Greengrants Fund works to foster. Our global advisors allow us to reach parts of the world that are not yet served by regional boards. Global advisors also supplement the work of regional advisors where these two advisory layers overlap, and they help link regional advisors and their grantees to global networks and resources. |
