INTERNATIONAL FINANCIAL INSTITUTIONS (IFI) ADVISORY BOARD
In early 2002, Global Greengrants Fund formed a new grantmaking board to identify grassroots groups working to influence trends in international lending and finance. Grants recommended by the International Financial Institutions (IFI) Advisory Board help groups gain a voice in decisions about development programs, dams, public works and other large-scale projects.
The International Monetary Fund, Export Credit Agencies and multilateral development banks such as the World Bank often fund projects without giving sufficient consideration to environmental and social consequences. Our IFI board can help grassroots groups apply appropriate local pressure to government and financial institution officials. And by supporting grassroots groups, we hope also to create greater responsiveness and accountability at all levels of international finance.
