Purpose: To promote food security and ecological protection through seed production and saving practices. The group will purchase a grain mill and storehouse, which farmers will use to build a food supply that will last throughout the year and reduce the need to encroach on wild lands to harvest or poach.

Purpose: To improve the livelihoods, health, and nutrition of marginalized women and children in the Jharkhand State. The group will organize trainings on composting methods, fish cultivation, and sustainable farming methods. Women will be engaged in income generation activities and the group will include trainings for disaster preparedness.

Purpose: To help develop a network of women farmers and promote sustainable agriculture throughout Tamil Nadu. The group will provide trainings to women farmers from 10 Dindugal and Theni district villages on protecting their rights and modes of livelihood.

Purpose: To improve the livelihoods, health, and nutrition of women-headed households in the Jalpaiguri district. The group will help the communities develop organic gardens and utilize sustainable techniques to increase household nutrition and provide an alternative source of income. Additionally, the group provide programs in basic literacy for women and young girls as well as raise awareness about the importance of biodiversity and balanced nutrition.

Purpose: To support a campaign against the dolphin and small whale captivity industry to prevent it from establishing a foothold in India. This industry includes zoos, circuses, and dolphinaria, and although India does not have any captive cetacean facilities, proposals to start them are being brought to several states. This project will include meetings and activities to raise public awareness on the issue.

Purpose: To help women's groups and women-led households improve their quality of life and livelihoods. The group will organize trainings and construct gardens with participating families, all with a focus on balanced nutrition, disaster preparedness, and local biodiversity conservation.

Purpose: To increase transparency and public involvement in the decisions around nuclear power in Astana, particularly in light of a new Nuclear Fuel International Bank project. The group will host a two day conference where international experts will discuss the topic, including energy efficiency and environmental protection. It will release a public report with the results of the conference and pressure the bank to stop this nuclear project.

Purpose: To create a public monitoring system of industrial air pollution in Temirtau and to protect environmental rights and local access to information. A local industrial plant is a major contributor to air pollution in this Kazakhstan city, and the group aims to work with 25 activists, advised by an environmental monitoring expert from the United States, to change the company's behavior.

Purpose: To prevent the construction of the first nuclear power plant in Kazakhstan. The group will send representatives to a National Stakeholder Dialogue in Astana and focus on public awareness, education, and engaging local, regional, and national policy makers. It will reach out to Russian and Kazakh media and develop an expert position paper and recommendation to present to the energy industry sector, government and regulatory agencies, and legislative bodies.

Purpose: To spearhead a public air monitoring project in Temirtau City, the industrial center of Kazakhstan. The group will partner with Global Community Monitor, Trust for Mutual Understanding, and a local leader who attended Center for Safe Energy's workshop on women's leadership in nongovernment organizations. It will use this partnership to bring in an expert to share their innovative low-budget air monitoring technology and help local residents negotiate with industries for cleaner air.

Purpose: To develop an environmental education program for preschools in Ba Abang and Long Belok, Malaysia. The curriculum would be taught in the indigenous language, and the group would provide snacks and supplies.

Purpose: To educate and organize communities opposing the proposed mega dam along the Baram River in Sarawak. Organizing and education issues will include the tremendous impacts on the local environment and community livelihoods that will result from the expansion of the dam.

Purpose: To raise awareness about the environmental and community impacts of a pending reclamation project along the coast of Manila Bay. The group will also work on coastal clean-ups throughout the area and establish the Sagip Manila Bay Movement Center as a research and campaign operations center. This center will also serve as a public venue for information and education.

Purpose: To collect and distribute the traditional environmental knowledge of the local Telengit community in Altai Republic. The group will organize workshops for 20 instructors on using photography and film to document and present the community's extensive knowledge. The group will also print guidebooks for Altai communities based on the workshops.

Purpose: To enhance water quality and preserve flora and fauna in the central protected zone of Lake Baikal by introducing dry composting toilets. The group will explore dry-composting options and place these toilets near popular locations. It will also raise awareness of the environmental benefits of these toilets among residents and tourists.

Purpose: To include locals and their expertise in preserving Lake Baikal and promoting ecotourism. The group will train locals as professional nature guides who will interact with tourists and share their extensive knowledge of the area's rich cultural heritage.

Purpose: To improve monitoring and regulation of access to the Shavlinsky Nature Reserve. The group will work with local residents and help improve the Argut Nature Park's infrastructure. The office in Inegen will be equipped for monitoring and documenting patrols and communications.

Purpose: To evaluate the number and population composition of the Altai Argali in the transboundary zone between Russia and Mongolia. With the help of local herder communities and specialists from the Altaiky Nature Reserve and Ubsunur Nature Reserve in Russia and Administrations of Protected Areas of Mongol Altai and Uvs Lake Basin in Mongolia, data will be collected on the count of Altai Argali in the zone. This information will be used to update the Conservation Action Plan for Altai Argali.

Purpose: To develop and publish a series of interpretive and educational maps for tourists and local residents. The group has finally received government permission to create these maps, and it will use these maps to not only show trail and camp destinations but provide education vignettes and descriptions about what hikers may encounter along the trail.

Purpose: To save the long standing ceramic traditions of local women, which are known for hand painted themes of biodiversity and culture throughout the Sierra Gorda region. This establishment is run by women from Soledad de Guadalupe and the funds will be used to buy major equipment needed for ceramic production and distribution.

Purpose: To reduce local dependence and depletion of natural resources by sustainably improving public facilities for passing tourists. By increasing the appeal of the Maguey Verde community, the community members will generate additional income from tourists and rely less on local natural resources.

Purpose: To help a local restaurant prepare for the new tourism route "The Culinary Road," which was developed to increase the appeal of the Sierra Gorda Biosphere Reserve for tourism. Funds will pay for improvements to both the kitchen and dining area.

Purpose: To enhance the educational value of the film Standing on Sacred Ground, particularly of the segment relating to the Q'eros story. The community will create a "Teacher's Guide" and use video editing software and take video footage to add to the film and create education materials.

Purpose: To improve environmental awareness and education throughout Peru. Funds will help create a video called "Standing on Sacred Ground" which portrays the beautiful Q'eros lands and community facing the devastation of mining and climate change. Additionally, school supplies promoting the community's environment, culture, and history will be given to the Q'eros community.

Purpose: To support the facilitation of youth workshops and trainings on water resources and conservation tactics in order to engage communities and increase awareness of peace, environmental, and development issues. The organization works to achieve environmental conservation through training of youth and women in Kenya.

Purpose: To train 100 people on bio-sand filter water treatment technologies, promoting knowledge about clean water through seminars and workshops. The overall goal of the project is to promote awareness on water-related issues and to become a training center for local communities in Uganda.

Purpose: To support the legal battle against multinational companies (Mahyco and Monsanto) attempting to develop their GMO brand of Brinjal (eggplant) making this India's first GMO food crop, without the prior approval of the state biodiversity board and the National Biodiversity Authority. Funds will be used to support the campaign to secure food sovereignty, as well as support education and mobilization efforts with farmers, especially women, who are the primary seed-keepers playing a critical role in conserving the biological diversity of indigenous crops.

Purpose: To raise awareness on climate change through the training of entrepreneurs in Solar Photovoltaic and Awareness Generation Programs. Funds will cover the salary of a training consultant for three months, who will expand current solar energy trainings and launch cook-stoves training for rural communities in Kolkata.

Purpose: To design and implement cultural, scientific, and environmental programs aimed at promoting the development of Kazakhstan’s civil society. Funds will be used to support group efforts to involve the local public in the decision-making process on the agriculture project of the Semipalatinsk Nuclear Test Site.

Purpose: To support the empowerment of indigenous communities in the interior parts of Baram River, Sarawak by helping to protect their customary rights to their lands, forest resources and territories, and management of the rainforests and river ecosystem. Funds will be used to organize and facilitate community awareness building projects, education and training, research and documentation, and information generation and dissemination.

Purpose: To support indigenous communities’ efforts to provide mutual support across Malaysia and to ensure that Malaysian indigenous communities’ concerns are represented both within Malaysia and internationally, through education, media, and legal assistance. Funds will provide crucial support for Malaysian groups to organize community-to-community exchanges and travel and for Malaysian representatives to participate in the Borneo Indigenous Peoples Alliance international meeting to be held in mid-2011 in Pontianak, West Kalimantan, Indonesia.

Purpose: To allow students to participate in nature protection and restoration activities at a school in the Bayangol District. Two hundred students from first to eleventh grade will participate and learn ways to make the school facility more eco-friendly.

Purpose: To develop and promote citizen participation and educate communities on eco-friendly lifestyle techniques such as saving water and using renewable energy. Funds will be used to organize a workshop and develop educational materials on climate change adaptation.

Purpose: To protect indigenous land and rights from rapid development which can lead to pollution of ocean and land habitats and cause deforestation. Funds will be used to construct a community resource center in Ndogon Village, where indigenous communities can access cultural and environmental programs, historical information, and educational information on the development projects that are making their way into the area.

Purpose: To help in the rehabilitation of coastal areas in Quezon City, Philippines. Funds will be used to mobilize schools, organizations, and local communities to participate in the coastal clean-up activities, as well as help organize forums and regular discussions on reclamation issues and workshops on proper waste segregation in the local community.

Purpose: To help residents of Irkutsk Oblast in south-central Russia adapt to rapid tourism development by strategizing, planning and helping them start local community eco-tour businesses. The Ongurenski region, once only farm and pasture land, is quickly becoming a tourist destination, and may locals are interested in opening eco-tour enterprises, but do not have the financial and other means to do so.

Purpose: To model and promote ecologically sustainable development approaches. Funds will be used to support the conservation activities in the Uch Enmek Nature Park in Altai Republic’s Karakol Valley, specifically to assess existing roads within the park and mark ownership boundaries in order to promote ecologically-sound tourism activities and ensure continued community support for the park.

Purpose: To support efforts to minimize the environmental impacts of opening The Baikalski National Nature Reserve and other parks surrounding Lake Baikal for tourism. The Tahoe Baikal Institute will conduct activities to ensure that tourism development is done sensibly, with full public participation, and accessibility, including developing the fist handicapped-accessible trail in Russia along the Reserve's border.

Purpose: To protect the environment of Altai-Sayany Mountain region through public outreach campaigns; the facilitation of the establishment of specially protected natural territories and parks; and the promotion of public environmental control and monitoring activities. Funds will be used to support the organization’s activities to oppose construction of a pipeline across the Ukok Plateau, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Purpose: To publish the botanical guide, "The Jewels of the Taiga," a comprehensive and photo-illustrated publication of the flora and fauna in the ecologically diverse ecosystem in Zabaikalsky National Park of the Lake Baikal watershed. The publisher of the book, Laboratory of Active Tourism, was created to promote ecotourism in the Buryatia Republic by carrying out information and awareness campaigns.

Purpose: To encourage the development of an environmental way of thinking amongst local youth and adults. The funds will be used to support the development of the Interactive Eco-Center for Sustainable Living project which will implement a series of interactive school-room activities.

Purpose: To evaluate the status of snow leopards on Kuraisky Ridge in Russia and develop related conservation projects, since it is estimated that there are only 100-150 remaining in the region due to poaching. Funds will be used to organize field research of potential snow leopard habitats, gather information on current numbers, prey species populations, poaching and other threats to endangered species, and develop appropriate recommendations for local and technical conservation.

Purpose: To help set up a complete system of interpretation at each of the protected areas around Baikal, Russia and introduce the concepts and science behind nature guiding in Siberia. Funds will be used to create displays, signs, exhibits, brochures, and other written materials to educate tourists and locals on the nuanced complexities and true beauty of Baikal and its immediate environment.

Purpose: To organize and conduct environmental raids on anti-poaching in the Republic of Altai, Russia. Funds will also be used to carry out informational campaigns among local populations to address poaching violations and to cover outcomes of raids in the local and regional mass media outlets.

Purpose: To promote development of public ecological movement in the Odessa region and in the Ukraine through public outreach, education and awareness campaigns, and collaboration with local and regional mass media. Funds will be used to facilitate a conference on the development of ecotourism in the Odessa region and in the south of the Ukraine.

Purpose: To promote opportunities for regional economic sustainability through local cuisine by developing and equipping restaurants. With these eateries, a new tourism route called The Culinary Road (La Ruta del Sabor) through Sierra Gorda Biosphere Reserve in Mexico can be created, which will increase the appeal of the reserve as a tourist destination. As part of the improvement to these eateries, funds will be used to help apply for certification from the state.

Purpose: To propel the development and the sustainability of rural tourism through the promotion, recovery and strengthening of cultural values, and the development of training programs for community member operators. Funds will be used to carry out an analysis of the tourism offer of the Sierra Gorda region; to build consensus for an improvement plan; and to help the community operators to establish that plan on site.

Purpose: To host a conference on recycling and solid waste management to be held in Kazakhstan in June 2010. The conference will gather leaders from local, regional and international NGOs, government representatives, local activists.

Purpose: To establish the Seka Training Center, which will provide trainings in preschool and early childhood environmental education, habitat restoration and community gardening, microenterprise development, and health and hygiene. The center will also provide a physical address for their organization, and enable the group to open an international bank account, diversify fundraising potential and outreach, and strengthen networking possibilities.

Purpose: To restore forests and combat desertification in the region surrounding Lake Baikal. Funds will support the planting of 4000 pine trees and 1200 buckthorn berry trees along the Selenge River, the biggest tributary to Lake Baikal, in an effort to restore 700 hectares of protected forest.

Purpose: To create a community-based monitoring and stewardship project in the Taplejung district of Eastern Nepal. Funds will be used to conduct the baseline ecological research necessary to assess data on red panda distribution, to identify and map existing and potential anthropogenic threats to red pandas, as well as to train, employ and support 12 "forest guardians" to monitor six forests.

Purpose: To facilitate the participation of Filipino fisherfolk in debates on climate change. Funds will organize a national, three day conference of fisherfolk during which participants will develop their understandings of climate change trends in coastal areas and will discuss impact mitigation and disaster preparedness.

Purpose: To document the changes happening in Filipino coastal towns due to climate change, including increased marine mammal sightings and beaching. Funds will also support the creation of an environmental monitoring system that communities can use to monitor and react to climatic changes, and use as an information sharing tool with other communities, NGOs and government agencies.

Purpose: To organize youth advocacy for biodiversity protection, alternative energy use, and climate change mitigation. Funds will support these efforts in the provinces of Iloilo and Guimaras.

Purpose: To promote ecotourism as a source of income for five shepherd families living in Sailyugem National Park. Specifically, the shepherd families will serve as guides, develop trails, and produce local crafts as souvenirs for tourists to the local herder camps in Sailyugem and Ulandryk.

Purpose: To involve local residents in the protection of snow leopards in the Argut region in the Altai Republic. The organization will hire an experienced biologist; support educational events; and purchase a tarpaulin yurt to house a spiritual center and museum about snow leopards.

Purpose: To undertake 3 projects in the Baikalski Nature Reserve to promote environmental education, sustainable trail management, and preservation of cultural heritage. The group will produce maps, brochures, and other tangible educational materials for future use by the Reserve staff and local teachers.

Purpose: To set up a number of expositions and public seminars in the new interactive learning center in Irkutsk to inform the public about practices on the local level that can be used to combat climate change. The organization also encourages education, community dialogue, public awareness, and community participation in decision-making processes.

Purpose: To enable a plan to reintroduce several herds of reindeer into the Tuturo Evenki native territory. Their team leader will also work with a geo-botanist and a reindeer specialist to research the historical placement of reindeer herds in areas near to the headwaters of the Lena River.

Purpose: To reduce the impacts of uncontrolled grazing and pasture expansion in the Karkol Valley. This project will equip distant pastures for seasonal habitation to more evenly distribute grazing; in exchange farmers will volunteer to protect rare flora and fauna from illegal depredation.

Purpose: To encourage the use of alternative energy in the Altai Republic as a means of protecting nature and adapting to climate change. The project will encourage the government to implement alternative energy technologies, particularly the installation of solar panels; educate local government leaders about alternative energy technologies; and continue ongoing development of the Alternative Energy Center in Chemal, Altai Republic.

Purpose: To protect the snow leopard, musk deer, argali sheep, and other species from poaching in key habitats of the Altai Republic. The organization supports what may be the only systematic anti-poaching patrols in the region, and funding will cover the outreach efforts, operations, and the purchase of basic materials.

Purpose: To expand an ecotourism training program to three communities in the economically depressed southeast region of Lake Baikal. Funds will enable residents of the Arshan, Slyudyanka, and Listvyanka communities to join the growing eco-education network that the organization has established among other lakeside villages.

Purpose: To educate the Russian public about climate change, mitigation challenges, and opportunities for green energy solutions. Seminars will train 30 volunteers who will, in turn, provide information about local green energy opportunities to schools, residential areas, and municipal buildings.

Purpose: To publicize the investigation of the social, environmental, and economic impacts of the decommissioned Leningrad Nuclear Power Plant. Green World will produce a video documentary of the political discussion surrounding the investigation.

Purpose: To educate children about climate change in the Donetsk Region of the Ukraine. Funds will organize a training seminar for school teachers; each teacher will receive a packet with curriculum materials on climate change.

Purpose: To address local climate change issues across Ukraine by organizing a national seminar entitled Saving Energy to Save the Climate. Participants will learn about energy efficient practices for both individuals and communities.

Purpose: To support leaders of non-governmental organizations to participate in an Energy Efficiency Conference, in May 2010, with other organizational leaders, government officials, and the public. The organization promotes the development of public ecological movements in the Zaporozhye region through information and awareness campaigns, research, networking, and the publication of environmentally-focused materials.

Purpose: To support the organization’s activities to increase the range of and further promote holistic cattle ranching through the creation of five new pilot demonstration farms. The organization seeks to decrease the impacts of cattle farming on the Sierra Gorda Biosphere Reserve, one of the most biodiverse and important protected areas in Mexico.

Purpose: To train Indigenous Pastoralist women in best practices and alternatives to cutting down trees in the Marsabit forest for income. They will explore other income generating activities that are environmentally sustainable and learn how to replicate these techniques in addition to designing a support structure among the women to ensure eachother's success.

Purpose: To implement a project to collect plastic waste around Limuru town and use this waste to create crafts to sell; other activities include planting 2,000 indigenous trees in the region and forming environmental clubs in schools in Nyori and Rironi. This group seeks to empower youth by providing them with information on environmental sustainability and equipping them with entrepreneurship and other socio-economic skills.

Purpose: To enable the Executive Director, Zhang Chunshan, of Three Rivers Guardians to participate in a one-year fellowship with the Yunnan Participatory Watershed Management Research and Promotion Center under the supervision of Goldman Prize winner Dr. Yu Xiaogang. The fellowship will allow Zhang Chunshan to learn about effective non-governmental organization governance and gain critical knowledge about conservation approaches and Chinese environmental law.

Purpose: To hire a consultant for organic coconut producers and processors from several villages to document and set up control systems needed for organic certification. The organization seeks to decrease migration of young people and families from rural communities to urban areas by developing sustainable income generating activities in their communities.

Purpose: To increase awareness and transparency surrounding the Nuclear Fuel International Bank project in Kazakhstan by researching and publishing findings on its impact on the environment, safety, and human health. Funds will be used to prepare a public report and recommendations to the Kazakh government and the International Atomic Energy Agency, which will be used in a future antinuclear advocacy campaign at national and international levels.

Purpose: To rebuild the houses of single mothers in Tekeli city after the large earthquake which happened in June and partially destroyed many poor neighborhoods. The organization provides legal and social support to the citizens of Tekeli city with a focus on the least protected members of society, such as single mothers.

Purpose: For general support of this newly-established organization, including strategic planning, training for indigenous legal professionals, and distributing educational materials. This association was established by leading indigenous Sarawak lawyers to protect the human rights and land tenure rights of indigenous communities.

Purpose: To support a campaign with Sarawak Indigenous Native Customary Land Rights Network to prevent clear cutting of Borneo rainforests and conversion of indigenous lands into single crop timber plantations by timber corporation Pusaka-KTS. Specifically, the project aims to highlight sustainable local alternatives through series of capacity building and outreach events.

Purpose: To support a program aimed at educating local communities about mining issues in the area. Activities include training youth to monitor water quality at various mine sites and developing several model restoration projects.

Purpose: To cover costs associated with creating Nepal's first protected forest and the world's first community-based protected area dedicated to red pandas. Activities include managing the community-based monitoring program, research, and networking.

Purpose: To create a community-based monitoring and stewardship project in the Taplejung district of Eastern Nepal. Funds will be used to conduct the baseline ecological research necessary to assess data on red panda distribution, to identify and map existing and potential anthropogenic threats to red pandas, as well as to train, employ and support 12 "forest guardians" to monitor six forests.

Purpose: To conduct a six month program to gather support for and empower fishing communities in Visayas. Activities include giving leadership trainings, conducting workshops, undertaking media campaigns, and generating support from local institutions.

Purpose: To protect the marine ecosystem of the Guimaras Strait and continue its rehabilitation through training sessions, information campaigns, research on fishing, and policy advocacy. The local marine ecosystem is already suffering the effects of the worst oil spill in the history of Philippines, which happened three years ago, and are now being damaged by destructive fishing practices.

Purpose: To promote public participation and transparency mechanisms of mining operations in southeastern Altai through monitoring; company engagement; local participation in both hearings and the environmental impact assessment process; and legal support for local communities. Additional activities include creating a database and GIS maps, a website, and publishing a journal to build awareness around the issues.

Purpose: To develop ecotourism projects in the southern Baikal area with the participation of summer exchange students. The group will collaborate with local citizens, tourist agencies, and the Irkutsk Botanical Garden to develop appropriate projects.

Purpose: To support the protection and conservation of sacred sites in Altai by disseminating the organization's project results in the Ukok Plateau, Kosh-Agachsky District. Additional activities include publishing a book, Sacred Sites of Altai, and conducting a workshop for participants from Altai, Mongolia, and Kyrgyzstan on protected areas.

Purpose: To establish an entry check point at the Karakol Valley’s entrance in the village of Bichiktu-Boom, as a step toward creating more effective protection of the sacred valley. The entry point will be used to document and monitor tourist inflow, and to provide information and accommodation for visitors.

Purpose: To work with students, teachers, and community leaders in 6 towns along the Lake Baikal's shore to organize a number of trail-building and eco-education projects around the lake. The project will include a series of workshops and seminars, as well as one winter and one summer project (each two weeks in length), which will provide a practical opportunity for participants to work on and extend the Great Baikal Trail into their own neighborhoods.

Purpose: To maintain efforts to establish a national park and cultural monument in the Tyva Republic by ensuring public input in the planning process. The project will enable local and indigenous communities to protect their lands from exploitation by foreign extraction companies, specifically by encouraging public participation in public hearings about the Lunsin Chinese Mining company that extracts gold and minerals in the traditional lands and reindeer herding areas of Todzhi people.

Purpose: To support an organic school lunch program, with the goal of both improving nutrition and promoting sustainable agriculture in the region. This organization aims to raise awareness about environmental issues in Taiwan and establish alternative sustainable economic models, with a focus on organic agriculture.

Purpose: To publish and distribute a journal, which aims to raise awareness about nature preservation throughout the Ukraine and will be used as an educational resource for summer youth camps and local ecology teachers. The organization works to create and implement programs for studying and preserving local natural resources, conducting public outreach, and collaborating with local mass media.

Purpose: To support activities aimed at the creation of the Dnister Canyon National Park by collaborating with local government, the Ministry of Environmental Protection, scientists, and nonprofits. These dialogues will determine which parts of the Canyon landscape are to be preserved by the park.

Purpose: To create a series of publications that highlight environmental issues and their solutions in the Zaporozhe region as well as the work of the Khortitsky Forum, Ukraine's largest network of environmental non-governmental organizations. Additional activities include distributing the publications throughout the network, and creating a website for the organization.

Purpose: To plan and operate a marketing and commercialization program that will establish a centrally located cheese factory, whose brand will be marketed at local and eventually national markets as an organic product. The organization seeks to decrease the impacts of cattle farming on the Sierra Gorda Biosphere Reserve, one of the most biodiverse protected areas in Mexico.

Purpose: To demonstrate environmentally friendly alternative livestock production through ten pilot farms. The project aims to reduce ranching's negative impacts on ecosystems, spread a plan to promote the intensive production of semi-confined livestock along with the withdrawal of livestock from the forests, and to create efficient and profitable production processes.

Purpose: For support of several activities related to the Bowoto v. Chevron trial taking place in the U.S. Federal Court in San Francisco for human rights abuses. The case is considered to be a flagship lawsuit that could set a precedent to hold American companies accountable for human rights abuses abroad.

Purpose: To build conservation capacity among forest-dependent communities. Specific activities include training community leaders, and designing and financing small-scale conservation projects with local buy-in.
