Purpose: To diversify the income of indigenous communities, like the Batwa, through gorilla tourism and conservation. The group will facilitate the Batwa women and youth in designing, packaging, and opening a community trail. Activities around this will include tree planting, family gardens, arts and theatre, and trainings and meetings around community conservation.

Purpose: To help the community organize a domestic waste management system. The group will raise awareness and host trainings, as well as distribute trashcans for sorting at local schools. The group will also help environmental clubs and manage community cleanups.

Purpose: To partner with local authorities and key stakeholders in the management of the Kisansa wetland. The group will engage local authorities and communities in meetings over improving the management of the wetlands.

Purpose: To document indigenous knowledge of medicinal plants in central Uganda. The group will use this knowledge to help local communities develop income sources and support value-addition which increases the ease of selling, storing, and marketing these plants.

Purpose: To raise awareness on climate change and its social and economic implications. The group will work with the community on water management strategies and organize community-wide meetings around the topic.

Purpose: To protect the Ntungamo Municipality forest. The group is working with the municipal council, and will begin reforestation and ecotourism activities.

Purpose: To develop a management plan for the badly polluted Ntarama Rock surface water sources. The group will work with community leaders to strategize on water conservation and mapping of existing water sources.

Purpose: To organize a large regional workshop for 100 participants from 10 districts in southwestern Uganda. Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) and stakeholders, including media members, academics, and environment officers, will attend the workshop and discuss the dangers of environmental degradation. Results and proceedings of the workshops will be made public through radio programming.

Purpose: To raise awareness on climate change issues in the communities of the Masindi District. The organization will also work with communities around the Budongo forest to identify natural resource-based enterprises that encourage the sustainable use and protection of natural resources.

Purpose: To raise awareness about climate change among isolated communities in Mbarara's forested areas. Funds will also be used to train women in sustainable resource management practices, an especially important strategy since they are typically responsible for farming, gathering wood, and water collection.

Purpose: To raise public awareness of the threat that climate change poses to communities in Uganda. ACCC will hold workshops and use radio, newspapers and brochures to alert citizens about the threats of climate change and to carry out action-based research in communities vulnerable to the impacts of climate change.

Purpose: To promote environmental reporting among university students in the East African Law Students Magazine, which is published quarterly. Funds will be used for research, organizing meetings to share information on environmental issues, preparing the design of the magazine, publishing the magazine, and conducting environmental awareness sessions in universities in Kampala.

Purpose: To support and empower marginalized communities in the Nebbi District of Uganda. The funds will be used to raise awareness about the importance of conservation in Erussi, a rural sub-county located on the border of the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Purpose: To support community development initiatives by working with rural farmers on issues of sustainable agriculture and conservation of biodiversity in order to reduce poverty, improve livelihoods, and protect the environment. Funds will be used to contribute to environmental conservation and social equity through the promotion of sustainable agriculture at the community level.

Purpose: To raise environmental awareness among public officials by organizing training workshops and supporting environmental clinics and committees at the village and town level in Kampala. The organization will also support the environment clubs of 10 schools, raising awareness through drama groups and talk shows.

Purpose: To promote the use of clean, renewable energy technologies for rural and urban populations in Uganda. Go Green Uganda will promote the use of biomass fuel briquettes, biogas plants, and solar energy systems as alternatives to burning charcoal.

Purpose: To bring community leaders together in Ruhama County, Uganda for the 2011 Ruhama County Annual Leaders Conference on Environment and Development. Over 300 community leaders from the county will discuss and raise awareness about the importance of environmental protection and sustainable economic development in an effort to encourage candidates in the upcoming elections in Uganda to include environmental issues on their agendas.

Purpose: To improve the livelihoods and welfare of local communities living near protected areas and to fight exploitation, injustice, and environmental degradation and pollution in the community. Funds will be used to raise awareness amongst primary school children, herbalists and members of the Ongo Community Forest Management Association from the community of Kasenene about the importance of conservation of the forest that borders their community.

Purpose: To organize a networking and capacity-building workshop for grantees in Uganda working to protect and sustainably manage their communities' natural resources. The workshop will provide an opportunity to share experiences and lessons learned, and include field visits to projects in the Ntungamo district.

Purpose: To encourage public participation in and access to information about environmental issues in Uganda. The organization will support the participation of at least 20 of its partner groups at the third annual Global Gathering of the Access Initiative in Uganda to share strategies and build networks between groups around the world working on similar issues.

Purpose: To restore parts of the Kisana wetland, and to develop and implement a community-based resource management plan for the wetland area. The organization will also construct a fish pond that can be used by community members as an alternative form of income, effectively decreasing exploitation of the area.

Purpose: To educate students at 4 schools in Jinja about proper waste management practices, with an emphasis on the 3 'R's: Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle. Youth make up a large percentage of the population in Ugandan communities and can play a key role in influencing change.

Purpose: To raise awareness about climate change adaptation and resilience strategies in the Bwikhonge sub-county, which is located in an ecologically fragile area that has suffered from severe biodiversity loss and climate variation. Additionally, funds will be used to educate the community about alternative energy technologies, and to help women’s groups improve their food security through home gardens and agro-forestry projects.

Purpose: To raise community awareness in the Kanungu District about the constitutional land rights of Ugandans and encourage community members to take responsibility for the conservation of their natural resources and environment. The center strives to ensure that local communities have access to resources to improve their livelihoods and promote sustainable development.

Purpose: To publish and disseminate a directory of non-governmental and community-based organizations in southwestern Uganda. Funds will also be used to organize a workshop that will improve networking among like-minded organizations in the region as well as to organize media talk shows on environmental advocacy.

Purpose: To produce an educational video that will be distributed nationally and internationally about the organization's mission to eradicate poverty by the year 2015 through income generation and community conservation projects such as bee keeping. Funds will also be used to organize training workshops and exchange visits to teach member communities about sustainable agriculture and the impacts of climate change.

Purpose: To raise awareness about the social and environmental implications of oil development in the Kanungu and Rukungiri districts of the Albertine Graben, where oil has recently been discovered. Additionally, the organization aims to educate people in these districts about their basic rights and their capacity to influence natural resource management and environmental protection.

Purpose: To send the Executive Director to Eugene, Oregon to attend the annual meeting of the Environmental Law Alliance Worldwide and the 27th annual Public Interest Environmental Law Conference. This organization supports and encourages public participation in the management of the environment and the sustainable use of natural resources.

Purpose: To develop environmental awareness and reduce illegal deforestation in the rural communities of the Masindi District by providing workshops on the use of biofuels and energy-efficient stoves. Additionally, fruit trees will be planted for the community.

Purpose: To promote environmental protection among youth in internally-displaced peoples camps in northern Uganda, including creating awareness of the negative effects of common quick income-generating work like charcoal burning, bush burning to search for game, and brick laying. Peer education teams will focus on promoting alternative options like sustainable agriculture, and will organize music, dance and drama groups that will focus on saving forests.

Purpose: To map and create a directory of non-governmental and community-based organizations in southwestern Uganda. This directory will be used to improve networking among like-minded organizations and strengthen the environmental movement in the region.

Purpose: To support litigation to protect forests threatened by corporate sugar cane and palm oil production, specifically the Mabira Forest Reserve and the Bugala Islands. Greenwatch uses advocacy, research, training, and public participation to promote the right to a clean and healthy environment.

Purpose: To carry out a comprehensive review of the government's budget allocations for natural resource management, with the goal of identifying constraints and gaps and recommending priorities for local governments. The report will be published and distributed to relevant stakeholders.

Purpose: To hold a community workshop on land tenure, land conflicts, and environmental conservation in the Bulisa District. Participants include representatives from local communities, national policy makers, and civil society leaders; this organization specifically focuses on increasing youth leadership capacity.

Purpose: To create a three-year strategic plan to define the organization's mission, vision, and priority action areas. The plan will be used to shift Uganda's energy sector so that it more fairly represents and benefits poor communities.

Purpose: To hold workshops for members of the Nyamirama region that educate about environmental rights, public participation, community empowerment, and environmental management. This mission of this organization is to eradicate poverty among its member communities by 2015 in accordance with the targets set out in the Millennium Development Goals of the United Nations and the Ugandan government.

Purpose: To promote sustainable natural resource management in the Bukhulo region. Activities include training villages in energy-efficient technologies and setting up community tree and plant nurseries.

Purpose: To conduct a study of Ugandan environmental legislation; the information will be put together into a policy brief and widely distributed. This organization seeks to raise environmental awareness by providing a forum to research and debate conservation issues.

Purpose: To hold a training course for this group's Environmental Corps, a group of civic leaders from different professional backgrounds who seek to include an environmental perspective in their work. Issues to be covered include wetlands degradation, tree farming, and environmental health--all areas of importance in the Ntungamo District.

Purpose: To support a campaign to identify and analyze key national policies and laws that are being used in the regulation and control of the oil sector in Uganda. A workshop will be held to create awareness about the need for public participation and enhanced civil society groups that are working on the issue.

Purpose: To train people to collaborate with their local governments to promote sustainable resource management. This community-based organization works through dialogue and forums to develop policies and legislation that promote the sustainable utilization of the environment.

Purpose: To fund legal proceedings against developers and the government to encourage them to comply with existing environmental laws, and to seek to protect people affected by the Bujagali dam from losing their land.

Purpose: AFIEGO conducts research and advocacy on energy policy issues, such as the current state of governance in the energy sector. This grant is funding an assessment of public access to justice in Uganda's energy sector.

Purpose: To support monthly environmental seminars and events at Makerere University in Kampala. These will help promote sustainable resource use as a component of economic development.

Purpose: To support efforts to gain the release of the environmental impact assessment of the Bujagali Dam project, to analyze that report and to share the results.
