Purpose: To stop illegal salmon fishing by monitoring and reporting on the condition of the fish in industrial fishing zones. As a precursor to a larger initiative throughout Sakhalin, the group will organize a series of trips to the Sakhalin rivers Anna and Sim to survey fishing and population levels.

Purpose: To promote environmental awareness and understanding of the threats to protected zones among student environmental activists. With field trips to protected sites, the group will introduce the youth to topic areas including the rich local biodiversity, illegal logging, and waste pollution. It will use the results of this project to develop an educational video and booklets.

Purpose: To launch a case against "Transiberian Oil," whose oil spill in 2008 on the River Balta was devastating to the local river and ecosystem. The group will utilize public monitoring and the environmental impact assessment to support the case.

Purpose: To collect and distribute the traditional environmental knowledge of the local Telengit community in Altai Republic. The group will organize workshops for 20 instructors on using photography and film to document and present the community's extensive knowledge. The group will also print guidebooks for Altai communities based on the workshops.

Purpose: To plan with Siberian, Far Eastern, Chinese and Mongolian nongovernmental organizations around the protection of several transboundary rivers basins. The group will attend an international conference between May 31st and June 1st called "Siberian Rivers" to discuss hydropower development and water quality.

Purpose: To enhance water quality and preserve flora and fauna in the central protected zone of Lake Baikal by introducing dry composting toilets. The group will explore dry-composting options and place these toilets near popular locations. It will also raise awareness of the environmental benefits of these toilets among residents and tourists.

Purpose: To protect the Altai Republic, including the Ukok Plateau, Mount Belukha, and the river Multa, which are threatened by gas pipelines, a cascade of proposed dams, and climate change. With this goal, the organization will organize a photo exhibit to display the beauty of these attractions and educate the public on the unique Altai ecosystem. Material for the exhibit will be gathered from professional climbing expeditions and leading local photographers.

Purpose: To organize a regional conference to gather organizations and grassroots movements working on waste management and responsible consumption. The conference will help participating groups share experiences and create a plan of action for 2012, such as including the International World Cleanup 2012 event. At the conference, they will network with regional companies offering recycling and waste management help and socially responsible solutions.

Purpose: To protect three plots of land from housing developments. The group will pursue legal action, organize public hearings, and provide access to media coverage through its website.

Purpose: To stop salmon poaching on the Lutoga River in the Aniva region. The group will organize rafting trips to regularly patrol and monitor the river for poaching. It will report any poaching activity to authorities.

Purpose: To assess and provide alternatives to a cascade of dams on the river Multa in Altai Republic. The group will hire experts to conduct a comprehensive assessment. It will also initiate dialogue with local authorities, businesses, and environmental non governmental organizations about building a wind power plant as a possible and sustainable alternative, which, along with the assessment, will be published to local mass media outlets.

Purpose: To mitigate the effects of large-scale illegal fishing along the Ob River in Russia, which has devastated the sturgeon population. The organization will collaborate with law enforcement and conduct field studies, locate and confiscate illegal fishing gear, and report poaching incidents. The study's results will be used to develop strategies between regional conservation groups and the State Nature Protection Department to stop sturgeon poaching.

Purpose: To build greater awareness and protection of taiga forests within the Salairsky Kryazh District. The group will plant cedar seedlings, involve youth in cedar plantation monitoring, campaign in the community to prevent damage from controlled burns, and organize workshops for the community on forest fire prevention.

Purpose: To raise awareness on the benefits of reusable bags and reducing plastic. The group will create and distribute cloth bags with environmental designs from local students. It will also use leaflets and booklets to inform the community about the dangers of "plastic pollution" from plastic packaging.

Purpose: To include locals and their expertise in preserving Lake Baikal and promoting ecotourism. The group will train locals as professional nature guides who will interact with tourists and share their extensive knowledge of the area's rich cultural heritage.

Purpose: To analyze the effects of 40 years of Russian test-rocket launches in the Altai region on the Tubalars indigenous communities. The tests will include soil, water, and plant samples from several Tubalar settlements and medical tests for children in the village. The results will be presented to local and regional authorities and made public through the mass media.

Purpose: To build upon a grassroots campaign throughout Sakhalin to protect the Naiba River in Sakhalin. The group will use the results of the project in a local mass media campaign to attract government and local public attention.

Purpose: To teach young activists how to produce videos, particularly on environmental and social issue. The group will hold trainings and a contest to showcase the students' films on environmental issues in and around Krasnoyarsk city. The winning videos will be distributed online and at a summer youth festival in the city.

Purpose: To preserve the Liflyandshyi wetland protected area from devastating forest fires and illegal fishing and hunting. The group will conduct summer community education programs, a youth outreach campaign, and monitoring activities with staff of the project area. The projects will concentrate on raising awareness of the danger of "control" burns, the endangered ecosystems of the area, and mitigating illegal activities.

Purpose: To protect nature reserves near Novosibirsk, including Dendropark -which is home to many rare and endangered Russian trees - from developments and pollution. Dendropark lost its protected status because of a lack in state funding and the group will campaign among the local community and authorities to get it back.

Purpose: To address the rapid industrialization of the Saha (Yakutia) Republic, including railroad construction through the Khangalas region. The group will visit the construction site and public hearings and request project documents from local authorities and the construction company. It will provide this information to local and mass media.

Purpose: To monitor, gather, and share accurate data about the conditions of salmon spawning grounds in the Smyrnyhovkyi area of Sakhalin Island. The group will organize field trips and purchase water testing equipment to check water salinity, temperature, and oxygen levels. This information will be posted to websites and compared with official data, which is often rigged, and given to the Public Salmon Council.

Purpose: To combat forest fires in three districts of Saha Republic. These fires are an annual occurrence which contribute to climate change and destroy forests and livelihoods.

Purpose: To improve monitoring and regulation of access to the Shavlinsky Nature Reserve. The group will work with local residents and help improve the Argut Nature Park's infrastructure. The office in Inegen will be equipped for monitoring and documenting patrols and communications.

Purpose: To involve youth and education in protecting local nature reserves, including Kolyvanskyi Borok. The group will record the different plant species within the reserve and produce a printed catalogue of rare and endangered plants to local schools and libraries.

Purpose: To protect forest and aquatic areas covered by the Vostochnyi nature reserve from poaching. The group aims to obtain national park status for the reserve and promote greater awareness within the local population and mass media about the importance of the reserve and dangers of poaching.

Purpose: To reforest local forests near Krasnokamensk city, where environmental and human health are being damaged by the largest uranium processing plant in Russia. The group will organize activities to obtain and plant seedlings, as well as engage local business for matching support.

Purpose: To monitor a pipeline across the Avacha River and discuss environmental compliance issues with the pipeline's owning company Gazprom. The group will work with experts from Petropavslovsk-Kamchatskyi to gather information.

Purpose: To obtain protected status for the environmentally fragile Chibagalah wetlands. Currently, poaching and geological expeditions threaten the area. The group will research, apply for, and campaign for the best level of protection for the zone, and it will engage the public and mass media to raise awareness.

Purpose: To raise awareness among Kosh-Agach District students and community about the snow leopard and other endangered animals of Altai. The group's campaign will highlight the threats to the animals, particularly from habitat loss, illegal logging, development, and poaching. The group will also organize workshops, exhibition of student art, and mass media coverage.

Purpose: To protect and preserve the local biodiversity within the Solonovka village and in the Altai region. The group will organize 6 field trips for local youth to the Nature Reserve to conduct a wildlife census and clean ups. The group will also publish information about the reserve and forest fire prevention on printed materials, signs in the reserve, on the internet, and through local newspaper.

Purpose: To raise awareness on the unique taiga ecosystem and promote an environmental mentality by involving the community in direct nature protection activities. The group will restore the eco trail and organize eco tours for Vladivostok youth. Also the funds will be used to print brochures and leaflets about the eco-trail and Ussuri Taiga.

Purpose: To collaborate on a restoration and reforestation project around the Selenga River watershed. The group will partner with the Mongolian group Adryn Elch and work near the Eroo settlement in Mongolia. The groups will focus on iron ore mining sites and organize a roundtable discussion with local authorities and representatives on the issues of ore mining in the area.

Purpose: To campaign against logging in Kara-Kai and Chaptygan. With the aim of protecting Siberian cedar and pine, the group will monitor and document violations and bring the evidence before court.

Purpose: To monitor and stop poaching activities on the Sakhalin rivers. The group will report violations to state nature protection authorities and continue legal action against poachers and companies unsustainably fishing along the river.

Purpose: To conduct an awareness campaign about Lake Lembolovskoe and pollution from poor solid waste management. The project will include prevention and restoration activities with youth, educational materials, including a movie called "Live Lake," and monthly environmental news bulletins.

Purpose: To create an interactive map of illegal dumping sites that will be maintained with the help of volunteers. The map will provide information to nature protection agencies who will organize restorative activities.

Purpose: To develop the EastEco website that will provide access to information and inputs on environmental situations from across the region. Far Eastern nongovernmental organizations and grassroots groups will use the website to post updates on and experiences with environmental issues within their region. Additionally, these groups will be able to assist in establishing more robust systems of public control and involvement in decision making processes in far eastern Russia.

Purpose: To protect natural monuments and objects sacred to Telengits which are threatened by the Ukok pipeline construction. The group seeks to bring local and national attention to the issue and have these sites certified as part of the cultural and historical heritage of Kosh-Agach.

Purpose: To promote the protection of rare animals and plants through printed text and a theatrical presentation. The group will publish brochures with information about endangered species in the Mountain Shoria region. Additionally, it will put together a performance during the Shor holiday to raise awareness among Shor youth.

Purpose: To support the participation of an activist at the United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development and Rio+20 events, particularly the Sustainable Development Dialogues. This will be a unique opportunity to network and learn from the private sector, nongovernmental organizations, and the scientific community. This activist will act as representative and connection for civil society groups and environmental grassroots in Siberia and the Far East.

Purpose: To promote the protection and restoration of Talizkyi Nature Reserve. The group will organize field trips to the reserve to conduct cleanups and monitoring, programs to teach local youth how to create a census of rare and endangered species, and a contest for poems and drawings themed "We Need to Save Them!" This contest will be covered in local and regional mass media and posted on Novosibirsk nongovernmental organization websites.

Purpose: To promote the importance of protecting nature sanctuaries and the natural heritage of Novosibirsk among local youth. The group's campaign "We Need to Know What to Protect" will focus on the Barabinskaja and Kulundinskaja steppe areas. It will travel to several villages, schools, and young naturalist stations across Novosibirsk to hand out informational packets "Natural Heritage of Novosibirsk Area - Steppe Ecosystems."

Purpose: To teach citizens of Tomsk about environmentally sustainable practices that can easily be incorporated into daily routine. As part of this effort, the organization will release brochures called the "Environmental Code of Tomsk Citizens" to students of Tomsk colleges and schools. They will also work with the Tomsk Public Transportation Department to hang posters with the same message across 350 buses and specially designated bus stops.

Purpose: To protect the Sedanka Park within Vladivostok city in Russia through reforestation and application to the state for protected status. The park is not legally protected and is declining because of illegal dumping and harsh recreational activities, including off-roading by motorcyclists.

Purpose: To help create protective zones within nature parks and reserves in Altai Krai for rare and endangered species of birds of prey. The group will use geographical information systems (GIS) to identify the birds' habitats and evaluate the current rules and regulations in nature reserves. The group will use the information to draft and submit suggestions for special protection zones.

Purpose: To create an interactive map of illegal waste dumping sites and to enlist the help of local community volunteers to keep it updated. The data will be given to relevant nature protection agencies which will take further action to clean the sites.

Purpose: To protect the local population and habitat of the endangered Ural Owl. The group will enlist the help of local youth environmental groups to install and monitor 110 artificial nesting places for the owls in 4 regions of Altai Krai. The group will also raise local awareness through a series of public meetings and workshops on the importance of protecting biodiversity.

Purpose: To evaluate the number and population composition of the Altai Argali in the transboundary zone between Russia and Mongolia. With the help of local herder communities and specialists from the Altaiky Nature Reserve and Ubsunur Nature Reserve in Russia and Administrations of Protected Areas of Mongol Altai and Uvs Lake Basin in Mongolia, data will be collected on the count of Altai Argali in the zone. This information will be used to update the Conservation Action Plan for Altai Argali.

Purpose: To develop and publish a series of interpretive and educational maps for tourists and local residents. The group has finally received government permission to create these maps, and it will use these maps to not only show trail and camp destinations but provide education vignettes and descriptions about what hikers may encounter along the trail.

Purpose: To gather baseline information on the level of logging, forest fires, poaching, and related violations. This data will be used to estimate the activities' impacts on bird of prey populations during the nesting season. The group will organize field studies and use geographical information systems (GIS) to conduct the census, and it will advocate for the creation of a protected area in the Verhneobskyi forest.

Purpose: To care for and add facilities to the Krivosheino Nature Reserve. The group will work with local youth on clean up and monitoring activities and will install needed benches, litter bins, and bird houses. The group will help young environmental activists gain firsthand experience in nature conservation and restoration.

Purpose: To promote chemical safety in the Eastern European Caucasus and Central Asia (EECCA) region by strengthening the capacity of civil society to implement projects that raise awareness and reduce the impacts of persistent organic pollutants (POPs) and other toxins. The group also aims to support civil societies in increasing public participation at the national and international levels. To do this, it will organize campaigns on chemical safety, develop chemical profiles, assessments, and partnerships around the Strategic Approach to International Chemicals Management (SAICM), and share information on toxins, including e-waste, with organizations in Cameroon, India, Indonesia, Kenya, Tanzania, Senegal, Egypt, Philippines, and Mexico.

Purpose: To protect and reforest cedar forests in the Tomsk region. The group will organize cedar planting across 3 hectares of cedar forest in the Pervomaiskoe village, print leaflets about the forest, and support a children's festival called "Where Cedar Forest Starts." The group will also organize a trip for village children to a regional forest museum.

Purpose: To encourage creativity and environmental awareness among local youth. The group will organize a "Green Invention" contest, which will be covered by local and mass media, for youth to design their own "green" inventions. The group will also carry out the third annual festival "Youth Energy to the Green Planet" to help young environmental activists network and share information and experiences.

Purpose: To restore Lake Tersalgaiskoe with the help of the 2 villages. The group will work with the Pesochnodubrovka and Tersalgaiskoe communities to clean up illegal dumping sites and restore forested areas. It will also create informational signs prohibiting car washing and illegal dumping around the lake.

Purpose: To organize materials and events around bird protection in Tomsk. The group will start "bird watching days" and print 200 copies of booklets containing information about rare and endangered bird species in the region. It will also work with local and regional mass media.

Purpose: To raise awareness about the water pollution in 8 districts in the Tomsk region. Instructors will travel to each district and organize youth outreach and clean up activities. The campaign will highlight the increased pollution, particularly from local industries and unregulated tourist activities.

Purpose: To organize local history tours of Tomsk and surrounding areas for local youth. As part of the tour, historical, cultural, and environmentally important sites and information will be shared and protection of these places will be promoted.

Purpose: To educate local citizens around lake Navouspenka in south-central Russia about the importance of a clean, healthy environment. An awareness campaign will be launched educating locals about the importance of keeping the lake clean during the summer tourist season, and information boards and trash bins will be installed on lake shores.

Purpose: To clean up illegal waste dumping sites and raise awareness about the effects of unsustainable waste management. Local people will be organized to clean up 10 illegal waste dumping sites, plant flowers and bushes in these sites after the clean up, and conduct an awareness campaign through local newspapers and TV channels.

Purpose: To restore a unique freshwater spring near the village of Terengul in south-central Russia. The group will purchase construction materials to build a cover for the spring and will hire a truck to clean up the area adjacent to the spring to ensure clean water.

Purpose: To empower youth to help solve local social and environmental problems and to encourage sustainable practices in everyday life. The group will create a CD called "Specially Protected Areas in Tomsk Oblast" and distribute it to educational institutions in the Tomsk and neighboring regions.

Purpose: To help residents of Irkutsk Oblast in south-central Russia adapt to rapid tourism development by strategizing, planning and helping them start local community eco-tour businesses. The Ongurenski region, once only farm and pasture land, is quickly becoming a tourist destination, and may locals are interested in opening eco-tour enterprises, but do not have the financial and other means to do so.

Purpose: To reforest the area of Novosibisk Oblast. The organization will purchase and plant seedlings of cedar, Siberian fir tree, larch and to establish regular monitoring of the plantations.

Purpose: To conduct a public information campaign in order to mobilize community forest protection efforts, especially during the upcoming forest fire season. The organization promotes citizen involvement in the conservation of local ecosystems and supports public initiatives related to environmental policy in the Tomsk Region.

Purpose: To educate local youth on endangered species. Funds will be used to raise awareness about the Siberian Grouse, an endangered bird that is subject to illegal poaching.

Purpose: To purchase cedar seedlings and to reforest 5 hectares near Volodino village. The organization will also work with the local administration to establish regular monitoring of the reforested area.

Purpose: To promote forest conservation and paper recycling. Funds will be used to conduct a number of workshops and mass media events, and to organize round tables for local authorities, youth and activists to discuss sustainable consumption and waste management issues.

Purpose: To help the Civic Development Center study the current philanthropic climate in Tomsk Oblast, Russia through research, interviews, and field trips. The results of the research will be distributed in the local non-profit sector and will help local grassroots and environmental organizations to access local funding sources.

Purpose: To publish a detailed report on the impacts of the 2014 Winter Olympics preparation activities on the North Caucasus ecosystem and rights of local residents in Russia. The findings will be published in a 50 page report that will be posted on the website and funds will also support the creation of an interactive map that will allow the public to add hot spots of discovered violations.

Purpose: To model and promote ecologically sustainable development approaches. Funds will be used to support the conservation activities in the Uch Enmek Nature Park in Altai Republic’s Karakol Valley, specifically to assess existing roads within the park and mark ownership boundaries in order to promote ecologically-sound tourism activities and ensure continued community support for the park.

Purpose: To support efforts to minimize the environmental impacts of opening The Baikalski National Nature Reserve and other parks surrounding Lake Baikal for tourism. The Tahoe Baikal Institute will conduct activities to ensure that tourism development is done sensibly, with full public participation, and accessibility, including developing the fist handicapped-accessible trail in Russia along the Reserve's border.

Purpose: To conduct an awareness campaign on forest fires and their devastating impact on local bird populations, especially during the breeding season. The funds will be used to print and distribute leaflets, to organize a number of public meetings which will gather local farmers, village authorities and active villagers, and to install information boards on the danger of the upcoming fire season.

Purpose: To ensure the protection and preservation of rivers and lakes in Northeast Eurasia through trainings, informational support, and collaborative projects. Funds will be used to mitigate environmental risks associated with major hydroelectric projects in the area by reaching out to financial and media stakeholders to publically disclose risks.

Purpose: To protect the environment of Altai-Sayany Mountain region through public outreach campaigns; the facilitation of the establishment of specially protected natural territories and parks; and the promotion of public environmental control and monitoring activities. Funds will be used to support the organization’s activities to oppose construction of a pipeline across the Ukok Plateau, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Purpose: To obtain protected status for three land plots in the Charysh district in order to protect them from the risk of unregulated tourist activity and solid waste pollution. The project activities will include a public awareness campaign and restoration activities within the potential protected areas.

Purpose: To attract public attention, especially the attention of youth, to issues of protected areas through eco-tourism and radio-tourism. Funds will support a youth expedition to the Belorezkyi nature protection area that will be covered in local and regional media.

Purpose: To monitor the Chinetinskyi Nature Reserve which is home to a system of karst caves, a specific formation of caves. Local authorities plan to start ecotourism in the area, so the organization will prepare the local communities enabling them to monitor the protection of area.

Purpose: To produce postcards illustrating rare and endangered species of the Altai Krai region and to distribute them among students at local schools and universities. This organization was created by activists from Altai State University who were concerned about the deterioration of the ecosystems in the region.

Purpose: To carry out an awareness and hands-on campaign to address solid waste pollution in Kochnevo village. The group will also create and install information boards in the area.

Purpose: To raise awareness of pollution in the Barnaulka River which flows through Barnaul City. The organization will conduct a series of education and awareness events, including clean up and restoration activities.

Purpose: To publish the botanical guide, "The Jewels of the Taiga," a comprehensive and photo-illustrated publication of the flora and fauna in the ecologically diverse ecosystem in Zabaikalsky National Park of the Lake Baikal watershed. The publisher of the book, Laboratory of Active Tourism, was created to promote ecotourism in the Buryatia Republic by carrying out information and awareness campaigns.

Purpose: To enable informed local participation in planned and ongoing oil and gas projects in Southern Primorye. Funds will be used to conduct a broad information and awareness campaign that will also provide information about alternative options for development in the region.

Purpose: To monitor and analyze water sources in the Bolotnino Region. The tap water in the region does not meet sanitary norms, and there have been increasing reports of people with gastrointestinal diseases in the area, so the funds will be used to make the results of the monitoring available to the public and relevant state agencies.

Purpose: To develop an organizational website and to issue a newspaper, called “Altai Nature,” which will be distributed in the Altai region and Siberia. The organization promotes environmental awareness in Altai Krai through their media efforts and by working with schools.

Purpose: To encourage the development of an environmental way of thinking amongst local youth and adults. The funds will be used to support the development of the Interactive Eco-Center for Sustainable Living project which will implement a series of interactive school-room activities.

Purpose: To conduct monitoring and environmental impact assessment of the 2008 Transiberian oil pipeline spill on the Balta River. The Transiberian Oil Company is known for its poor environmental track record, and Apple Garden works to hold the company accountable through public environmental assessments, information and awareness campaigns and legal action.

Purpose: To reforest the area along the banks of the Bagan River in order to address the soil erosion and thus, the deterioration of the water quality. The organization also monitors the condition of the only river in the Bagan village, conducts clean ups, and raises awareness among local communities.

Purpose: To conduct a census of biiskyi kopyten, an endangered medicinal plant, in the vicinity of the city of Biisk and to raise awareness among the Biisk population about the importance of preserving the plant. The organization will also create and distribute an informational booklet, and highlight, in the local media, the issues around conservation.

Purpose: To promote environmental awareness and involve youth in environmental protection in Kupino. The project will collaborate with the local population and youth to clean up Chany Lake and install informational boards.

Purpose: To conduct an information campaign aimed at the importance of preserving the endangered plant "Lady’s Slipper" in the Aya District of Altai Krai, which is threatened by unregulated tourism, forest fires, and solid waste pollution. The campaign will consist of distributing information leaflets, conducting workshops, and organizing meetings with local administrators to discuss the concept of developing sustainable tourism in the area.

Purpose: To mitigate the ongoing negative impacts of gas and oil development on rivers in the Lensky district of Yakutia. The organization will conduct monitoring of water quality, perform a census of plant species, institute a community outreach campaign, and present results to public and nature protection agencies.

Purpose: To develop and support scientific research necessary to create specially protected areas and enhance biodiversity preservation in Krasnoyarsk Krai in collaboration with regional and national think tanks, universities, and non profit instituions. Funds will be used to promote the regional importance and develop local support of the protected area of Malyi Kebezh in Ermakovskyi District of the Krasnoyarsk region.

Purpose: To encourage the development of new, locally based solutions to environmental issues in Khabarovsk Krai. Funds will hold a competition between creative, environmentally oriented projects among regional libraries, which have been actively engaged in environmental education.

Purpose: To promote civic culture and public participation of youth in the Altai Republic by stregthening youth government and youth movements in Novosibirsk, Tomsk, and Kemerovo. Funds will be used to support the movement "We plant cedars, what do you do to take care of the climate?" for cedar forest restoration near Teletskoye Lake, as a project to raise awareness of the regional impacts climate change.

Purpose: To protect wild bison, deer, and boar in the Sikhote Alin nature protection area. Funds will conduct a census of animals, sponsor clean-ups, and increase availability of animal food sources.

Purpose: To plant Siberian fir and cedar trees in an effort to reforest Zalesovskyi Zakaznik (nature protected area). The organization will also raise awareness around forest protection among local populations and will train local youths on public monitoring techniques and the use of GPS technology.

Purpose: To engage those most affected by climate change in Kamchatka--indigenous groups--in monitoring and adaptation activities. Funds will support round table discussions on monitoring in the city of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatskyi and in two indigenous settlements--Anavgai and Esso.

Purpose: To conduct clean-ups of Khanka Lake in Russia, to organize a local information campaign on solid waste management, and to cover the results in the local media. The organization promotes environmental awareness, sustainable consumption and waste management, and watershed protection among the Kamen Rybolov population.

Purpose: To raise awareness in local communities of the effects of industrial and tourist developments around Lake Baikal. Funds will be used to issue a local, independent newspaper, which will provide information about planning and its effects.

Purpose: To improve communications and awareness of nuclear issues in Krasnoyarskyi Krai. Funds will go towards updating the organization's website, www.NuclearNo.ru and conducting informational campaigns.

Purpose: To support efforts to ensure public control and monitoring over the construction of a municipal gas pipeline, which will go through the center of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatskyi. The organization will examine the current condition of the pipeline, analyze its impact on the ecosystem, and present its findings to the local authorities to be taken into consideration during the construction of thermal power plants in the city.

Purpose: To teach the basics of environmental research and monitoring and promote awareness of nature protection and conservation among local communities in Russia. Funds will be used to help organize internships for local youth in parks and protected areas of Altai Republic where youth will be given a variety of tasks from conducting wildlife censuses to clean ups and reforestation activities.

Purpose: To support the ongoing campaign to stop the construction of the Boguchanskaja Dam on the Angara River by planning site visits and a conference with Russian environmental experts and the company performing the environmental impact assessment. This will serve as the basis for a larger conference on the environmental problems of Lake Baikal and the Angara-Yenisey River Basins in mid-2012.

Purpose: To clean up and protect lakes and rivers that have been polluted as a result of ongoing railroad construction near Pavlovsk village. Funds will be used to carry out an environmental assessment of water sources, publicize the results of these assessments, carry out a regional conference on the issue of pollution, and conduct several cleanups in the area.

Purpose: To initiative public discourse and raise awareness on environmental and health concerns related to a polycrystalline silicon plant project proposed to be built in close proximity to Omsk City, Russia. Funds will support project activities such as conducting preparatory work for an environmental impact assessment, organizing proper public hearings, and preparing a public petition for the Omsk government urging the authorities to cease the plant construction.

Purpose: To promote environmental education initiatives for youth in Saint Petersburg. A cycling tour will be organized, and an accompanying video produced and distributed to raise awareness about the expanding urban and industrial development in Yuntulovo.

Purpose: To promote concepts of energy saving and ecological construction in Altai Republic by introducing ecological housing through workshops and informational campaigns. Funds will be used to support the "Center fdor Environmental Design and Construction" in Barnaul which will provide educational and practical support for the public and businesses in the region.

Purpose: To organize a broad mass media campaign to attract public and governmental attention on the issue of forest degradation and constant conflicts over land and resource rights between local communities, logging companies, and protected areas in the Prymorie Region of Russia. Funds will also support public discussions on forest governance in mass media outlets and another mass media campaign in collaboration with Greenpeace and World Wildlife Fund Russia to attract national attention to the issues of deforestation and poor forest management.

Purpose: To educate Neryungri’s indigenous communities on basic environmental monitoring, which is critical in the face of mega development projects (oil and gas) in Southern Yakutia. Ability to understand and report environmental impacts is a necessary step to prepare local communities to participate in public hearings and to take an active stand in protecting their ancestral lands, nature, and culture.

Purpose: To raise awareness about the issues of water and air pollution in Yakutsk, Russia by organizing a youth outreach campaign. Funds will support several activities including: the use of social media and popular bloggers, engaging local youth in the creation of an environmentally oriented advertisement campaign, and showing movies promoting environmental consciousness in schools and colleges.

Purpose: To ensure the protection and preservation of rivers and lakes in northeast Eurasia; to provide joint trainings and informational support; and to organize collaborativeactions and projects. Funds will be used to conduct research on gold mining activity in the Amur River basin (Russia), of which the results will be distributed to state agencies and authorities, non profit organizations, and the public.

Purpose: To gain protected status for the Usun-Ebe Lake by working with experts and conducting environmental assessments and monitoring of the impacts of tourism and industrial pollution from Yakutsk city on the lake.

Purpose: To develop a strategy to attract national and international attention to issues of water pollution, hydropower construction, and climate change in Siberia. Funds will support the organization of the fourth international scientific practical conference, Siberian Rivers, at which these strategies will be developed.

Purpose: To promote environmental awareness and involve youth in direct hands-on nature protection activities. Two expeditions to Chany Lake will be conducted to carry out clean ups, and eight informational boards will be installed, all in collaboration with the local fisherfolk and youth populations.

Purpose: To organize public monitoring trips to examine the East Siberia – Pacific Ocean pipeline in Olekminskyi District, where the pipeline crosses the River Lena. The project works to raise local awareness about oil and gas development projects in Saha Republic and to promote public participation in the decision-making process through mass media and internet campaigns, with a focus on impacted indigenous communities.

Purpose: To study and preserve the biodiversity of Altai Krai, especicially the birds of prey in the region. Funds will be used to conduct a series of events to preserve the population of the endangered Ural owl through the organization's collaboration with a network of 20 school groups that will construct artificial nesting places for th owls in selected nature reserves and natural monuments.

Purpose: To conduct public inspections of the “East Siberia – Pacific Ocean” pipeline near Hatystyr and Aldan settlements and to report any environmental and technological violations, taking into account the oil spills of 2009 and 2010. The organization will also conduct public meetings with affected communities, host eco-educational activities for school children of the villages, and promote media coverage of the project.

Purpose: To raise environmental awareness among Primorsky Krai residents by developing environmental programs for local educational institutions. Funds will be used to create and distribute the electronic "Red Book of Endangered and Disappearing Species of Prymorie" within local schools and libraries.

Purpose: To gather evidence for and promote proper hearings on and public monitoring of the West Siberia Pacific Ocean pipeline construction project and its impacts.

Purpose: To monitor and distribute information about projected and current industrial construction projects, which will impact the local environment of Nadezhdisnkyi District, Prymorye. Funds will be used to establish a local inforamation/educational system for planned projects such as a gas pipeline to China, construction of a bridge across Amur Bay and a related highway, as well as a large transportation hub in Prohladnoe Village.

Purpose: To organize a series of monitoring trips along the pipeline of “East Siberia – Pacific Ocean” and to report the violations, such as spills and possible technological violations. These efforts will be supported by the group created by local indigenous communities to monitor the pipeline route that goes through indigenous territories and pristine areas of the Sakha Republic.

Purpose: To conduct clean up, restoration, and reforestation activities in three nature protected areas, or zakazniks, in Uglovskyi, Altai Krai. The project activities will include field trips to the zakazniks, meetings with local and regional authorities, trips to identify violations of the zakaznik rules, and publication of the articles in the media.

Purpose: To promote sustainable use and respect for the unique ecosystem and its rich resources on Sakhalin Island through the active participation in legislative process and mass media outreach. Funds will be used to conduct a public outreach campaign to raise awareness on poaching and the deterioration of water quality through river monitoring and information dissemination.

Purpose: To increase social and environmental awareness among local youth through seminars, summer school programs, and reforestation activities. Funds will be used to support a series of actions aimed at involving local youth into environmental activity, such as to carry out youth ecological monitoring of local forests and specially protected areas and to cover the results in the local mass media.

Purpose: To organize a broad awareness campaign of the Tatarsky Bay industrial pollution, near the De Castri Settlement, as a result of the oil and gas development in the area. Funds will be used to organize clean-ups and help bring government and media attention to this issue.

Purpose: To conduct volunteer educational activities for disabled children in schools in Tomsk Oblast. Funds will be used to promote art therapy projects, such as "eco-education in shapes and colors," which will be aimed at raising local environmental awareness and knowledge.

Purpose: To eradicate salmon poaching on the Lutoga River, in the Aniva region. Funds will be used to support anti-poaching activities, including rafting trips to identify and report poaching activities by carrying out regular patrolling and monitoring activities on the river and reporting information to authorities.

Purpose: To engage in the protection of the Siberian sturgeon in Tomsk Oblast in southern Russia. The Ecological Center Stirzh will conduct anti-poaching raids on the Ob River, report discovered violations to relevant state agencies, and begin a fundraising and awareness campaign through popular web portals in the area.

Purpose: To protect a local birch grove that is threatened by pollution and a housing unit development. Funds will be used to conduct research on planned development projects and their impacts on the brich grove as well as used to produce documents necessary to change the birch grove area's status to a protected area.

Purpose: To carry out reforestation and clean up activities in the Timiryazevskyi Forest, which is located near Tomsk and is suffering from solid waste pollution, housing development, and illegal logging. The organization will also carry out an information campaign through local media to attract public and governmental attention to the issue of forest degradation and will organize round table discussions with representatives from local authorities, businesses and the public.

Purpose: To preserve the Sakhalin trout population by gathering experts to create a conservation strategy. Funds will be used to review the current trout population in three different parts of the Sakhalin region and present the research to government authorities.

Purpose: To create an environmental information and resource center in the Artybash settlement in Russia which is located near Teletskoe Lake Park that will provide space for public meetings, access to internet, and literature on sustainable nature management, conservation, and ecotourism. Funds will also be used for meetings between organization members, local communities, and state authorities to develop a better understanding of effective ways to mitigate the conflicts between parties.

Purpose: To produce and distribute a movie called "Tourist, Clean Up After Yourselves and Teach Others How to do it" in Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk in preparation for the 2012 spring tourist season.

Purpose: To evaluate the status of snow leopards on Kuraisky Ridge in Russia and develop related conservation projects, since it is estimated that there are only 100-150 remaining in the region due to poaching. Funds will be used to organize field research of potential snow leopard habitats, gather information on current numbers, prey species populations, poaching and other threats to endangered species, and develop appropriate recommendations for local and technical conservation.

Purpose: To clean up the Izdrevaya River, which has been contaminated by solid waste pollution. Funds will support monitoring of the river by experts and the engagement of the local population through clean up activities and awareness raising events.

Purpose: To support ecotourism development in Tomsk Oblast, a region in southern Russia. The organization will raise awareness about living in harmony with nature in the Larinsky District and will install information boards and conduct clean ups with local youth in the Larinsky Nature Reserve.

Purpose: To promote the preservation and protection of the environment by developing environmentally focused programs into local school and university curriculums. Funds will by used to partially fund the youth environmental festival "Young Energy for Green Planet" to be held in Tomsk and will promote better networking among young Siberian environmentalists who focus on forest protection, oil and gas development, and water quality in the Tomsk region.

Purpose: To increase awareness among the local population of Bystrinskyi District, which is home to the largest nature park in Kamchatka but suffers from poaching, illegal logging and forest fires. The organization will conduct workshops, distribute leaflets and brochures, and organize a youth summer camp called "Youth for Ecoculture."

Purpose: To raise awareness on the pollution caused by plastic bag waste. The organization is planning to order and distribute colorful reusable bags, conduct open air actions to promote the idea of reusable bags, print and distribute leaflets and brochures, and start a dialogue with local business related production of reusable bags in Tomsk.

Purpose: To conduct an interregional youth summer camp, called Forest School 2011, and to provide grant writing workshops. Participants of the camp from Novosibirsk and Altai will be taught basics of environmental control and monitoring, working with GPS and digital technologies.

Purpose: To help set up a complete system of interpretation at each of the protected areas around Baikal, Russia and introduce the concepts and science behind nature guiding in Siberia. Funds will be used to create displays, signs, exhibits, brochures, and other written materials to educate tourists and locals on the nuanced complexities and true beauty of Baikal and its immediate environment.

Purpose: To provide updated information on a proposed natural gas pipeline threatening the Ukok Plateau and heritage site in Altai Republic which will most likely go through sensitive landscapes and communities of the Ukok into China and increase access for poachers through service roads. Specifically, funds will be used to support the Russian to English version of the website (www.saveukok.ru) that will allow this updated information to spread.

Purpose: To prevent and fight devastating forest fires in mountainous Shoria. Funds will be used to create voluntary fire squads, organize meetings with authorities and community members, and provide media coverage.

Purpose: To strengthen civil society capacity, implement projects that reduce the negative impacts of persistant organic pollutants and other toxics, increase public participation in national and international chemical policy venues, and raise the awareness of the public and non-governmental organizations regarding toxic chemical impacts in the Eastern European, Caucasus, and Central Asia region. Funds will be used to organize national and regional non-governmental organization campaigns on chemical safety, coordinate a Strategic Approach to International Chemicals Management (SAICM) forum at the United Nations conference, develop national chemical profiles and assessment of SAICM, collaborate with networks on issues related to SAICM, and share knowledge on waste and toxic related issues with organizations in Cameroon, India, Indonesia, Kenya, Tanzania, Senegal, Egypt, Philippines, and Mexico.

Purpose: To address social and environmental issues in the Amur region, namely, the protection of the endangered far eastern crane. Funds will be used for environmental education in local schools, where students will learn the importance of crane protection and preservation.

Purpose: To protect the ecosystem of Amur Oblast through environmental education projects directed at youth. Funds will be used to raise awareness about forest fires, poaching, and reforestation, as well as to direct clean-up activities in two local Nature Reserves.

Purpose: To support local environmental groups in the Amur region which promote public control over industrial development, environmental awareness programs, and biodiversity protection projects. Funds will be used to organize a public campaign that empowers community stakeholders in the construction and operation of the East Siberia-Pacific Ocean pipeline.

Purpose: To create a tree nursery which will help restore vegetation and prevent soil erosion, as well as create forest shelter to protect agriculture. Through this activity, the organization will also incorporate the participation of the most vulnerable members of the community, including underprivileged youth and the elderly, and work to create stronger bonds within the community.

Purpose: To establish a system of a public environmental monitoring in the area of the Baikal Pulp and Paper plant on the Baikal Lake. The organization will conduct a series of seminars and workshops to introduce simple monitoring methods to the local population, gather information, and publicize the results on the organization’s website and through relevant nature protection agencies.

Purpose: To address the construction of the service road to the Kuzbassenergo power transmission line, which will run in immediate proximity to the ancestral land of the Shors. Because the road will provide easy access for illegal loggers and poachers, the group intends to raise awareness of the community by analyzing and distributing information about the road and organize for public hearings and control.

Purpose: To promote new methods of ecological education, encourage public efforts to protect rivers, and address issues of reforestation and climate change throughout Siberia. Funds will be used to support a donor evaluation study and website development for Ecodelo, an independent grantmaking institution in Russia.

Purpose: To raise environmental awareness in an effort to conserve the biodiversity of Altai Krai. Funds will be used to run a youth summer camp with participants from the Novosibirsk and Altai regions and will cover environmental control and monitoring, working with digital technologies, and grant writing.

Purpose: To support efforts that protect Okhotsk Sea from illegal waste dumping. Funds will be used to create volunteer environmental inspection patrols to document the impacts in the cities of Korsakov, Holmsk, Nevelsk and Aniva, as well as to present the results to the public and city governments and organize a mass media campaign at local and regional levels.

Purpose: To raise awareness of the pollution caused by plastic bags. Funds will be used to distribute reusable bags, promote the use of such bags, create informational brochures, and speak with local businesses in Tomsk.

Purpose: To organize and conduct environmental raids on anti-poaching in the Republic of Altai, Russia. Funds will also be used to carry out informational campaigns among local populations to address poaching violations and to cover outcomes of raids in the local and regional mass media outlets.

Purpose: To promote biodiversity conservation in Tyumenzevo, Russia through a variety of projects. Funds will be used to install information boards on the border of the local nature reserve, to make and distribute a video about the reserve, and to publish a series of articles in the local newspaper to raise awareness about the issues of illegal logging, poaching, and solid waste pollution in the protected area.

Purpose: To coalesce the efforts of organizations in Eastern Europe, the Caucasus and Central Asia (EECCA) into a potent, participatory force working to identify and eliminate the Soviet legacy of toxic chemicals in the environment. The organization seeks new approaches and solutions for environmental, economic and social problems at the local, national and global levels, and raises public awareness on unsustainable development initiatives and environmental and social issues such as climate change, energy, pollution, and trade policy.

Purpose: To continue an awareness campaign about domestic waste pollution along the Ob River, which negatively affects fisheries and drinking water quality in several communities. The organization will conduct a broad awareness campaign to target local populations, authorities, and state nature protection agencies in order to demand stricter rules and regulations regarding quality of drinking water and condition of water intake facilities.

Purpose: To raise awareness of and collaboration between environmental groups in Siberia. The organization will publish and promote a catalog listing Siberian environmental organizations in CD, web, and paper formats and distribute the list to about 800 schools in the region.

Purpose: To support the project Clean Village, which aims to promote environmental cleanliness in Starobibeevi Village. The group is planning to organize series of clean up actions with the involvement of local villagers; to purchase and place trash cans at every street of the village; and to work with local authorities to organize regular waste removal and its following utilization.

Purpose: To increase the level of social and environmental awareness about the proposed development of a polymetal deposit on the Hamna River, one of the 10 industrial development megaprojects supported by the government in Saha Republic. The group will organize a series of meetings with affected communities; conduct regular monitoring of the project’s progress; and officially address appropriate state bodies with a request to increase state monitoring/control over the development activities in order to minimize environmental and health impacts and to appropriately compensate the local population.

Purpose: To establish a monitoring plan of Inberen Lake in preparation for a campaign to obtain protected status for the area. Additional activities include raising the public's environmental knowledge and conducting public hearings in the area.

Purpose: To provide general support of the organization, which has recently been intimidated by local authorities through a controversial search and seizure of their computers. The funds will also be used to establish monitoring over the re-opening of Baikal Pulp and Paper Plant and to initiate public discussion over this issue.

Purpose: To start the process of obtaining protected status for the wetland area of Chibagalah River, an environmentally fragile area that is threatened by poaching and frequent geology expeditions. The organization will research current legislation on protected areas; identify the most acceptable form of protected zone for this specific territory; draft and submit necessary documents to the regional administration; and carry out local outreach and advocacy campaigns through the media.

Purpose: To promote ecotourism as a source of income for five shepherd families living in Sailyugem National Park. Specifically, the shepherd families will serve as guides, develop trails, and produce local crafts as souvenirs for tourists to the local herder camps in Sailyugem and Ulandryk.

Purpose: To conduct monitoring, community outreach, and public hearings regarding the construction of the Boguchanskaja Dam on the Angara River. Currently, the dam is under construction without a state Environmental Impact Assessment, and no compensation has been defined for people to be resettled.

Purpose: To develop public environmental expertise of the site of the proposed uranium development, Gornoe, in the valley of Chikoi River, near Baikalskaja protected area, which will be used in organizing public hearings and will be distributed to the relevant nature protection and state agencies. The organization will also conduct an evaluation of soil and groundwater, carry out radioactivity measurements, and lead training seminars in the nearby village Red Chikoi to educate local residents about their environmental and human rights in the area of uranium mining.

Purpose: To organize public hearings to address the construction of roads associated with an oil pipeline that is being built without the consent of local land users and land owners. The association works to protect and secure the land statues of the indigenous peoples of the Altai Republic.

Purpose: To support four seminars in Southern Yakutia intended to educate indigenous populations about pressing regional issues, especially rapid industrial development. The seminars will also discuss how to protect their lands and human rights, and introduce the basics of public monitoring and control.

Purpose: To organize a week long summer youth camp on Kukui Islands to educate youth on the seasonal migrations of fish in the region. Activities include building discharge channels to help transport fish from isolated ponds to the Angara river.

Purpose: To monitor the activity of the Karamaken Metallurgic Plant, where a 2009 accident killed two people and severely polluted nearby rivers. Funds will be used to initiate public monitoring of the site and of the rivers and to report the results of monitoring to local and regional authorities and media outlets.

Purpose: To support a public awareness campaign through mass media, public discussions, and round tables about the environmental and social impacts of a hydroelectric development project in the region. Activities include providing information and updates to the population in Krasnoyarsk city and in the lower Angara region about the dam's construction, as well as identifying activists and creating local initiative groups to carry out public control and monitoring of the dam.

Purpose: To help implement a system for the recycling and proper disposal of used batteries in Tomsk City in order to prevent soil and water pollution. Activities include purchasing and placing receptacles for used batteries in shopping centers as well as working with local media outlets to promote a public awareness campaign about the issue.

Purpose: To involve local residents in the protection of snow leopards in the Argut region in the Altai Republic. The organization will hire an experienced biologist; support educational events; and purchase a tarpaulin yurt to house a spiritual center and museum about snow leopards.

Purpose: To conduct an environmental impact assessment and estimate damages against local indigenous peoples caused by Evenki's construction of the Kankun Dam. Specifically, the group will develop measures to ensure fair compensation to the impacted population.

Purpose: To create a database on all the protected areas in Altai Krai, to include the most updated information on their status and condition, and then to create a compact disk based on this database and distribute it to local schools, nonprofits, government agencies, tourist agencies and the general public. The group will also organize series of presentations and public meetings to educate local communities about the protected areas.

Purpose: To improve the organizational website and to support the distribution of the environmentally-oriented newspaper, "Altai Nature," which promotes environmental mentality and awareness in Altai Krai. Funds will also be used to expand the network both of paid and volunteer journalists.

Purpose: To film two educational videos about Altai ecosystems, especially focusing on their rare and endangered species of flora and fauna. The project will be completed in collaboration with Committee of Education of Altai Krai and will be distributed among local schools and non-governmental organizations.

Purpose: To issue a booklet entitled "Rare and endangered types of plants in a Specially Protected Area of Akademgorodok Park." The funds will also be used to involve students of Tomsk schools in a series of restoration and cleanup activities, and to organize a roundtable discussion for activists, students and teachers of Tomsk city.

Purpose: To clean up a one-hectare lake in Chilino Village, issue and distribute information booklets among local residents, and plants trees around the lake. Radugal (Rainbow) will also cover the project results in the local newspaper and create a video of the project results.

Purpose: To partially cover travel expenses of students and teachers from remote regions of Tomsk Oblast, so they can participate in a regional youth contest of technical 'inventions' aimed at environmental protection and preservation - including resource- and energy-saving solutions. Participants are to define the most urgent environmental issues of Tomsk Oblast, and then identify a 'technical solution'; the best 'inventions' will be awarded certificates and winners will be encouraged to proceed with applying for patents.

Purpose: To increase public ecological control over a forest and lake near Baturino Village that both suffer from solid waste pollution, poaching, and uncontrolled use of non-forest products (berries, herbs, etc). The organization will also conduct awareness campaigns, clean ups, and will create a nature protection-oriented website, which will cover urgent environmental issues at local and regional levels.

Purpose: To support reforestation as well as clean-up efforts around the Sun Meadow eco-settlement, created by locals who wanted to demonstrate the successful implementation of environmentally-friendly and energy-saving methods of housing construction. The organization works to promote environmental education and awareness among local youth.

Purpose: To preserve the Russian Desman, who's population has been decreasing because of poaching and environmental degradation. The organization will conduct a series of educational campaigns, disseminate pamphlets, and perform anti-poaching spot checks.

Purpose: To promote and support the construction of pressed straw eco-houses in Altai, which have a thermal conductivity that is 7 times less conductive than of brick houses, thus making them energy efficient. The group will organize events to demonstrate the construction and to allow participants to take part in the construction process; the project will also be covered in local and regional mass media.

Purpose: To undertake 3 projects in the Baikalski Nature Reserve to promote environmental education, sustainable trail management, and preservation of cultural heritage. The group will produce maps, brochures, and other tangible educational materials for future use by the Reserve staff and local teachers.

Purpose: To set up a number of expositions and public seminars in the new interactive learning center in Irkutsk to inform the public about practices on the local level that can be used to combat climate change. The organization also encourages education, community dialogue, public awareness, and community participation in decision-making processes.

Purpose: To conduct a forest fire awareness campaign in the Altai region in response to recent catastrophic forest fires in western Russia. Project activities will include field trips for schoolchildren and their parents, reforestation activities, photo exhibitions, and outreach to mass media.

Purpose: To increase awareness about the proposed development of a polymetal deposit on the Hamna River - this is just one of ten megaprojects supported by the government. The group will organize a series of meetings with affected communities; conduct regular monitoring of the project's progress; address the state bodies with a request to increase state monitoring over the development activities; and to minimize the environmental and health impacts of the project.

Purpose: To educate local youth about the benefits of the Kuznetskyi Alatau nature reserve. Activities include building a trail and conducting a field study assessment to monitor the ecological condition of selected areas of the protected area. The organization works to protect and preserve the biodiversity and ecosystems of Altai-Sayany region.

Purpose: To create a plastics recycling campaign in the Kovran village. The campaign will include clean-up days of the village; the purchase and placement of trashcans around the village; and the creation of a youth group to monitor and plan further actions for the campaign.

Purpose: To monitor the content of heavy metals found in water, soil, food and children living in various parts of Chita city and create recommendations for the development of rehabilitation programs for pre-school children living in ecologically disadvantaged areas. Project results will be compiled with the help of local student-volunteers and sent to local and regional governments as well as publicized through regional mass media.

Purpose: To continue a project from 2007 that focused on planting pine seedlings on sand bars to create a refuge for wild animals, especially the Siberian roe deer. Specifically, the group will organize and carry out public hearings on protecting the biodiversity in the flood lands of the Ob River and create a nature preserve to protect the remaining roe deer population.

Purpose: To organize a summer environmental camp for 40 Russian and Chinese kids with the purpose of educating youth about issues of the Dauria region and Argun River. In particular, this camp will create and organize youth monitoring of Argun river floodplains and promote Russia-China collaboration in addressing issues surrounding this transboundary waterway.

Purpose: To enable the publication of a brochure on American, European and Russian experience in environmentally friendly housing construction techniques and to organize a conference entitled "Ecology as a factor of affordable housing" in the Altai Republic. Funds will also be used to conduct several practical workshops on environmental housing.

Purpose: To conduct two seminars in the Buryatia Republic to raise awareness of the local rights and the environmental and health impacts of a proposed gold mining operation in the Sojoty indigenous community. The association works to protect the Buryat traditions by organizing and conducting traditional holidays; carrying out environmental monitoring; and collaborating with local and regional governments to ensure the protection of environmental and indigenous human rights.

Purpose: To conduct outreach and environmental awareness campaigns in Tigirek village and educate local residents on the importance of protected area preservation. Group members will conduct meetings with villagers and define scope of issues; consult community members on organizing small businesses (like beekeeping, weaving vines); pay for two village residents to participate in a regional craft fair; and establish dialogues between village residents and regional administration about the protected area.

Purpose: To raise awareness about the ongoing environmental and social violations by oil and gas development companies currently active in the Kargasok region. Specifically, the organization will conduct a local information campaign to attract local and regional attention to illegal waste dumping by industrial companies on indigenous peoples' traditional lands.

Purpose: To address the issue of unauthorized gravel excavation on the shores of the Tom River by attracting local attention to the issue and establishing a dialogue between local government, businesses and organizations. The group will conduct series of field trips to evaluate the scale of ongoing excavation; publish results in the local mass media outlets; initiate public discussions through public meetings; and publish and distribute leaflets.

Purpose: To conduct a "Forum of Young Environmentalists of Siberia" for the purpose of gathering active youth from Siberia to raise awareness on climate change, water resources preservation, and alternative energy issues through a series of meetings and workshops. Based on the results of the forum, a brochure will be issued and distributed among schools and NGOs at local and regional levels.

Purpose: To enable a plan to reintroduce several herds of reindeer into the Tuturo Evenki native territory. Their team leader will also work with a geo-botanist and a reindeer specialist to research the historical placement of reindeer herds in areas near to the headwaters of the Lena River.

Purpose: To attract public and government attention to the destruction of public recreational areas caused by the industrial development in Pozharskyi District, Prymorie. The group will also conduct monitoring of a local reservoir and the area near the oil and gas pipeline construction site with the overall goal of developing a set of measures to protect local recreational areas.

Purpose: To monitor and evaluate the environmental and health impacts of mining activities in the Motygino Region. Activities include public meetings and round tables in an effort to establish long term communication between the local population and government agencies.

Purpose: To organize a series of pine forest protection and restoration events for local students in collaboration with local forestry and state agencies. The group works with local students in conducting assessments, field trips, expeditions, clean ups, and reforestation activities.

Purpose: To conduct clean up of the Arzhan Suu spring, which is thought to have healing properties and considered sacred by local indigenous peoples. Funds will also go towards establishing regular monitoring of the site; placing information boards on best practices for visitors; and reviving traditions which use the spring for healing purposes.

Purpose: To reduce the impacts of uncontrolled grazing and pasture expansion in the Karkol Valley. This project will equip distant pastures for seasonal habitation to more evenly distribute grazing; in exchange farmers will volunteer to protect rare flora and fauna from illegal depredation.

Purpose: To conduct environmental monitoring, including analysis of soil, water, and biodiversity, of the area of the projected Sakhalin Khabarovsk Vladivostok pipeline. The results will set a baseline for monitoring compliance during the project's construction.

Purpose: To protect a site sacred to the Saha Yakut people by having it officially recognized as a nature park. The group will conduct cleanups of the site, prepare necessary documentation for regional authorities, and engage in reforestation efforts.

Purpose: To raise awareness of climate change and its impacts on the environment and indigenous populations in the Sakha Republic. The group will conduct an opinion poll in the Anabar region, prepare recommendations on adaptation strategies for local populations, and present research results to local authorities and newspapers.

Purpose: To encourage the use of alternative energy in the Altai Republic as a means of protecting nature and adapting to climate change. The project will encourage the government to implement alternative energy technologies, particularly the installation of solar panels; educate local government leaders about alternative energy technologies; and continue ongoing development of the Alternative Energy Center in Chemal, Altai Republic.

Purpose: To demand state action, including compensation and cleanup, in response to two, 2008 oil spills on the Omsk-Irkutsk pipeline in the Novosibirsk region. Funds will be used to gather and publish legally correct information about the spills and their effects, information which has been distorted in official reports.

Purpose: To increase economic opportunity for residents of Krasnoarmeiskyi District by broadly advertising their arts and crafts. Funds hold workshops in the community and will produce a brochure about the local artists with examples of their work, which will be distributed to craft stores in Vladivostok and Khabarovsk, tourist destinations, national parks, and tourist agencies of the Russian Far East.

Purpose: To build a rehabilitation center for Amur tiger and leopard cubs that have been orphaned (often because of poaching) so that they can successfully return to the wild. Funds will support research, designation of the area for the nursery, applications to state agencies for official recognition, and a fundraising campaign.

Purpose: To monitor the proposed construction of a new gas pipeline in Kamchatka. Funds will be used to conduct field trips to document any environmental violations, to ensure media coverage of the project's results, and to participate in round table discussions with gas company representatives, local authorities, and local people.

Purpose: To encourage state regulatory and prosecution agencies to address issues of environmental safety presented by the Boguchanskaja Dam and to ensure proper compensation for affected populations. Funds will go toward the collection and publication of legal, environmental, and social information related to the dam's construction and will publicize the findings in affected communities, to the general public, and to authorities.

Purpose: To protect the snow leopard, musk deer, argali sheep, and other species from poaching in key habitats of the Altai Republic. The organization supports what may be the only systematic anti-poaching patrols in the region, and funding will cover the outreach efforts, operations, and the purchase of basic materials.

Purpose: To expand an ecotourism training program to three communities in the economically depressed southeast region of Lake Baikal. Funds will enable residents of the Arshan, Slyudyanka, and Listvyanka communities to join the growing eco-education network that the organization has established among other lakeside villages.

Purpose: To educate the Russian public about climate change, mitigation challenges, and opportunities for green energy solutions. Seminars will train 30 volunteers who will, in turn, provide information about local green energy opportunities to schools, residential areas, and municipal buildings.

Purpose: To publicize the investigation of the social, environmental, and economic impacts of the decommissioned Leningrad Nuclear Power Plant. Green World will produce a video documentary of the political discussion surrounding the investigation.

Purpose: To address the ecological and social problems created by the construction of hydroelectric power stations on the Angara River and in Angarski Krai regions. Funds will be used to build the organization's networks; they will cover part of the cost of sending the head of the organization to Rivers of Life 3: The Third International Meeting of Dam Affected People and Their Allies.

Purpose: To study the effects of and promote benefit sharing from extractive industries projects financed by the European Bank of Reconstruction and Development. In partnership with the Russian Association of Indigenous Peoples of the North, the organization will produce a case study and a recommendation for a policy review process.

Purpose: To share knowledge about eco-housing construction, organic farming, apiculture, and the development of local green business solutions among representatives of Altai Krai grassroots groups, nongovernmental organizations, and the general public. Funds will be used to organize a workshop on these issues and to create a website for improved, long-term information sharing.

Purpose: To protect small rivers around Kemerovskaja Oblast from illegal waste dumping. Funds will support the creation of a volunteer youth environmental inspection patrol to monitor the rivers' condition and to inform the public and city government of any environmental issues.

Purpose: To assess the environment and health impacts of 40 years of test rocket launches on the Tubalars indigenous communities that live in the area. The organization will present the results of various tests to local and regional authorities and publicize them in the mass media.

Purpose: To protect the Akademgorodok city park as a recreational zone free from future residential housing development. Funds will support the organization's efforts to return five land plots in the park to protected status and to challenge municipality and state decisions that allowed housing development in the protected area.

Purpose: To protect the sturgeon population in the Ob River, which has been devastated by large scale poaching. The organization will organize and carry out seven anti-poaching raids during the winter fishing season, distribute leaflets to raise awareness of poaching in local communities, and collaborate with a local university to create a map of poaching hot spots along the river.

Purpose: To ensure community participation in and monitoring of a proposed ore processing plant near the Tyanya ethnic settlement of indigenous Evenki people. Funds will support the group's efforts to establish public control over the first phase of the plant's construction so that local suggestions are heard by design and construction companies.

Purpose: To educate local grassroots groups, non-governmental organizations, and the general public on climate change and strategies for approaching it. Funds will support two workshops on these issues for 100 participants, the results of which will be published in the local and regional mass media.

Purpose: To organize and carry out a forest fire awareness and information campaign in the Jewish Autonomous Republic of Russia. Project activities will include creating and distributing a video on forest fire prevention, carrying out a series of lectures in the school of Birobidzhan City, organizing field trips for high school students to the local forests, and supporting meetings with the state forest patrol.

Purpose: To study the effects of the proposed construction of the East Siberia Pacific Ocean pipeline in the Amur Region. The pipeline is projected to go through the Bolonskyi protected area, a wetland of international importance.

Purpose: To protect and preserve the environment in the face of large scale economic development in Primorsky Krai. Funds will support trainings for 100 public environmental experts, including master classes and scientific seminars, building regional capacity to protect the environment and citizens' rights.

Purpose: To sustain the local nature monument, Bobyrgan, through reforestation activities. Funds will be used to purchase cedar seedlings, cover transportation expenses for group members, and create and install information boards in the protected area.

Purpose: To integrate the climate change monitoring efforts of scientists and tribal communities in Kamchatka. Funds will organize field trips to study climate change over the past 150 years.

Purpose: To facilitate the work of the Russia Advisory Board. Funds will update the Russia Advisory Board website, create an online long distance school for potential grantees, and facilitate online discussions and consultations.

Purpose: To address the potential impacts of pipeline construction projects Koryakia-1 and Koryakia -2 through a series of public awareness campaigns, monitoring activities and round table discussions. Funds will also be used to equip an office of the Olutorskaja Association of Small Indigenous Peoples with a computer and a phone, which works in a very remote region of Koryakia and lacks internet and phone connections.

Purpose: To work in collaboration with the local government to carry out a soil recultivation and restoration project at an abandoned gold mining site in the Altai region. The fund protects environmental rights by providing environmental consulting services for local residents, grassroots groups, and other nongovernmental organizations.

Purpose: To educate representatives from 24 Evenks nomadic communities on public participation methods through a series of meetings and workshops. Additionally, funds will be used to raise public awareness about impacts of nearby development projects, including the Elkon Uranium Deposit project, the Eastern Siberia-Pacific Ocean pipeline, and the Kankun dam.

Purpose: To reduce the negative health and environmental impacts of toxics and to strengthen public participation in decision making processes related to chemical management and environmental justice. The organization will use the funds to support organizations involved in implementing the Strategic Approach to International Chemicals Management and three major international chemical management conventions in Stockholm, Rotterdam, and Basel.

Purpose: To support the 5th International Conference, "Siberian Rivers," which will take place in Tomsk in March of 2010. The conference will bring together experts and nongovernmental organizations that work to protect and preserve the world’s rivers in order to share knowledge and practical experiences, and to develop common solutions to the current environmental degradation of Siberia’s freshwater sources.

Purpose: To address the issue of domestic waste pollution in Mikhailovskoe Village through a local awareness campaign, and also by planting bushes and trees on the perimeter of a local waste dumping site. This 'shield' is intended to stop soil erosion and the spread of waste beyond the borders of the dumping site.

Purpose: To promote environmental awareness among local students in order to protect and preserve the taiga forests of northeastern Russia's Altai Krai region and Lake Svetloe. Activities include outreach programs, reforestation efforts, and monitoring activities in collaboration with local schools.

Purpose: To improve the condition of the local nature monument "Camp Garden" through monitoring and restoration activities. Activities include constructing a scenic overlook area with information boards; and developing and carrying out regular eco-tourism educational tours in collaboration with experts from the local Geology Department.

Purpose: To address the impacts of a proposed gas-chemical plant near the Pavlovsk settlement, and to involve the local population in the decision-making process. The group is planning to reach its goals by gathering and distributing information about plant construction, conducting public meetings and opinion polls, and increasing coverage in the local and regional mass media.

Purpose: To conduct monitoring and inventory of the Big Tassor Lake Nature Reserve, which has been lacking government protection for the past several years. The group will implement clean-up activities; install information boards; and raise local public awareness about forest fires and forest pollution.

Purpose: To hold a contest of environmental oriented drawings involving all the schools of the Kamchatka region. Specifically, children will depict what they consider to be the most urgent environmental issues in their communities and the winning art will be used in a regional mass media campaign to attract government and public attention to the pressing oil and gas development issues in Kamchatka.

Purpose: To stop deforestation and poor forest management in Altai Krai by printing and distributing informational leaflets; organizing public discussions with forest experts, government representatives, and the mass media; and organizing several field trips to forest reserves in Altai Krai. The organization works to raise public awareness of environmental and social issues through advocacy and outreach.

Purpose: To hold eighty environmental lectures at twelve schools in three districts of the Chita region. The funds will enable members of the organization to travel to the designated districts for the lectures.

Purpose: To monitor the construction process of the gas pipeline going through Nadezhdiskyi District by organizing eco-patrolling teams that will document environmental violations. The organization aims to involve as many citizens as possible in decision making processes around the pipeline by raising awareness and holding public hearings.

Purpose: To support cedar forest reforestation activities in the Truochakskyi Region of the Altai Republic. Activities include creating cedar nurseries, implementing three reforestation activities, and increasing awareness among local students and indigenous peoples groups about the importance of cedar forests.

Purpose: To increase public awareness about the Environmental Impact Evaluation of the Motyginskaja Dam on the Angara River, and ensure that local residents participate in the process. As the result of activities including public hearings, media coverage, and an information campaign, the final Impact Evaluation will incorporate the full range of potential socio-environmental impacts from the proposed dam.

Purpose: To support an information and public awareness campaign on the issue of salmon poaching along the pipeline Kshukskoe Deposit Petropavlovsk-Kamchatskyi in the remote area of Western Kamchatka. The organization will gather and submit evidence of violations along the pipeline and make information available at regional and federal levels; organize advocacy campaigns that aim to stop the construction of the second operational road along the pipeline and to prevent using the already existing operational road as a public highway.

Purpose: To promote public participation and transparency mechanisms of mining operations in southeastern Altai through monitoring; company engagement; local participation in both hearings and the environmental impact assessment process; and legal support for local communities. Additional activities include creating a database and GIS maps, a website, and publishing a journal to build awareness around the issues.

Purpose: To support a campaign among Russian and Mongolian high school students to protect the Mongolian gazelle, an endangered species that migrates into Russian territory during its spring breeding season and faces threats from border fencing, stray dogs, and poachers. Additional activities include informing drivers about the importance of the gazelle's protection and monitoring.

Purpose: To create a network of eco-clubs in Buryatia Republic. This volunteer organization was created to promote civil society development and support local non-governmental organizations and grassroots groups in the Baikal region.

Purpose: To install two solar panels in the visitor center of the Ukok Plateau, which is part of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization Heritage Site, Altai, Golden Mountains. The panels will be used to heat the center and prepare food, reducing human-impacts on the plateau ecosystem.

Purpose: To establish the Karakanskyi pine forest as a specially protected natural territory of local importance, and to submit the necessary documents to the Novosibirsk administration. Additional activities include conducting community discussions, and an awareness campaign focusing on the importance of the forest's protection.

Purpose: To prepare and publish an Eco-bulletin from May to December 2009, which will be distributed to local non-governmental organizations, commercial organizations, and the public. The Kemerovo Informational Ecological Agency builds environmental awareness and encourages public discourse and participation in environmental decision-making in the Kemerovo region.

Purpose: To support an awareness campaign about the proposed development of gold, silver, and polymetallic complex deposits in the foothill-steppe regions of Altai Krai, some of which may be located in the area of a future nature reserve and in the habitats of rare and endangered plants and animals. Additional activities include disseminating information through the internet and local papers, conducting workshops and seminars, and distributing a manual on social and environmental impacts of mining.

Purpose: To clean up and patrol coastal areas near Zarubino Village in Hasankyi. The organization will also conduct a media campaign to bring attention to the importance of coastal conservation.

Purpose: To organize an information campaign for local indigenous communities about recent changes to the Russian Federation forest code, which will affect indigenous resource use rights, timber harvest practices, and will inevitably result in illegal poaching and timber harvesting. Additional activities include distributing a report on forest reform, legislative documents, and a package of special application forms for receiving resource use rights.

Purpose: To implement an environmental education program in the Vydrino Village in the Buryatia region, organize several youth volunteer teams to carry out clean-ups in popular recreational areas and round table projects with local activists, ecologists and residents to discuss and develop forest fire prevention strategies, and produce an educational video about the Lake Baikal ecosystem. The organization's purpose is to protect and preserve the ecosystem of Lake Baikal and nearby rivers

Purpose: To monitor and assess the socio-environmental impacts of silver and gold mining projects in the Yana River basin. Through activities including a training program on monitoring techniques and forums for public discussion about the mines, the organization will develop a long-term monitoring program for the region in collaboration with local government agencies.

Purpose: To develop ecotourism projects in the southern Baikal area with the participation of summer exchange students. The group will collaborate with local citizens, tourist agencies, and the Irkutsk Botanical Garden to develop appropriate projects.

Purpose: To work with indigenous communities in Khabarovsk Krai to improve communications and awareness of their legal rights and other social, environmental, and economic issues. This organization is a legal center that represents indigenous peoples of the region to ensure that their rights are respected.

Purpose: To attract pubic and government attention to the issue of low quality of drinking water in Yakutsk city and Ust-Maja town through series of public meetings and mass media coverage. Additional funds will be used to visit remote settlements of the indigenous populations of Evenki (where gold mining takes place) and conduct a series of events to raise public health and environmental awareness, while also attracting the attention of local authorities to the issue.

Purpose: To support the protection and conservation of sacred sites in Altai by disseminating the organization's project results in the Ukok Plateau, Kosh-Agachsky District. Additional activities include publishing a book, Sacred Sites of Altai, and conducting a workshop for participants from Altai, Mongolia, and Kyrgyzstan on protected areas.

Purpose: To hold a drawing contest for local youth to raise awareness about the importance of cedar forest protection. This organization works to build awareness among the public, youth, and authorities to protect and preserve the Siberian Cedar from illegal logging and forest fires.

Purpose: To implement a set of measures to decrease the impact of arsenic and lead pollution on public health in Irkusk Oblast, which has been dangerously polluted by factories producing arsenic and lead-acid starter car batteries. Funds will be used to build a coalition of local organizations, scientists, and the public, which will develop and implement a strategy to address the issue of arsenic and lead poisoning; carry out a comprehensive assessment of the current state of pollution; and lead a broad information campaign about the results of the assessment.

Purpose: To organize a pilot project on plastic recycling in Altai Krai. Funds will be used to create several plastic recycling centers; to conduct an information campaign to inform the local population about recycling; and to organize meetings between local businesses and leaders that can play a role in starting a city-wide system of plastic waste gathering and recycling.

Purpose: To support actions aimed at the preservation and restoration of the Lubinskaja flood-lands. The project will include a school information campaign, as well as collaboration with the local organizations and the Ministry of Agriculture of Omsk Oblast on developing the plan of restorative actions.

Purpose: To rehabilitate a river system near Inberen Village, with the intent of improving water quality and water flow. Activities include a river clean-up campaign, reforesting the banks of the river, and restoring the river's natural flow; the group will also launch an environmental education campaign to build awareness about the importance of river conservation.

Purpose: To protect Mongolian gazelles, which migrate to the Zabaikalie region for calving. The group will monitor and enforce an anti-poaching program and conduct a public education campaign about the importance of the gazelles.

Purpose: To enable the Itelmens indigenous community in Kamchatka to hire an attorney to represent its interests in protecting traditional fishing sites in the region. The salmon and smelt population has decreased by 300% since a commercial fishing company was granted a license.

Purpose: To create a database with information about state fishery laws to inform local indigenous communities and enable them to effectively protect their resources. This organization is comprised of the Kamchatka Trade Union, the Association of Small Indigenous Peoples, the Kamchatka League of Independent Experts, and the Informational-analytical portal Fish of Kamchatka.

Purpose: To support forest fire prevention and forest restoration activities. Activities include conducting regular forest monitoring, a public education campaign, and reforestation activities in affected regions.

Purpose: To purchase supplies for the nursery's open air cages for the upcoming 2009 summer breeding season. The organization works to restore the Asian population of the Aleutian barnacle by rearing young in nurseries and releasing them into the wilderness of the Northern Kurile Islands.

Purpose: To evaluate the condition of the native fish population in the Indigirka River. The project will assess factors including oil reservoirs and poaching, and the results will be widely publicized.

Purpose: To organize public surveys, hearings, and an awareness-raising campaign regarding the construction of a silica plant in close proximity to Abakan, the capital of Khakassia Republic. They will open and host a phone hotline for affected communities, publish articles on the project by environmental experts, public council representatives, and federal and municipal government representatives, and distribute booklets about the environmental and health impacts of silicon production.

Purpose: To establish a public monitoring and control program related to the construction of the Timpton Cascade dam. Activities include hosting roundtable meetings, conducting surveys, and filing official requests with local and regional government offices seeking compliance with environmental legislation during the project's planning and construction phases.

Purpose: To conduct a botanical and ornithological assessment of the Kulundinskoe Lake area, one of the most pristine ecosystems in Tomsk and Western Siberia. Activities include compiling information on the impacts of illegal dams, sulfate pollution, fires, and poaching in the area, and distributing the findings through videos and documents to both the public and key government agencies.

Purpose: To promote public awareness and participation regarding the construction of Boguchanskaja and Motyginskaja Dams at the Angara River. Funds will be used to organize public hearings; travel to construction sites and impacted areas; organize public discussion between local populations, scientists, environmental experts, and local government representatives; and send requests to the regional and federal Nature Protection agencies to conduct an updated Environmental Impact Assessment.

Purpose: To initiate legal action against the decision to build two uranium enrichment centers on the existing Angarskyi Electrolysis Chemical Plant, which is already leaking toxic wastes into the groundwater, and is located dangerously close to local communities and watersheds. The organization will gather and distribute information about the construction plans to the local public; prepare an expert analysis of this information; publish and submit a formal request to stop the proposed construction to regional and federal governments; and to start preparation for legal action if there is no reaction to the request.

Purpose: To develop and create ecotourism routes in the recently created Call of the Tiger National Park in Prymorye, and lead training programs for activist students. Additional activities include installing necessary equipment like interpretive stations, and establishing a regular public monitoring program for the Park.

Purpose: To support the creation of the protected area Choros-Gurkina Park. Activities include preparing a biological and cultural-historical assessment to apply for protected area status and conducting an information campaign about the importance of conserving the area.

Purpose: To hold a summer camp by a proposed dam construction site near the Motygino Islands nature park along the Angara River. The camp will serve as a forum to discuss negative impacts from dam construction, including loss of pastures, destruction of fisheries, and unjust resettlement practices, and will contribute to the broader campaign to protect the Angara River.

Purpose: To increase public awareness about illegal logging in Turochakskyi District. Activities include training local citizens on monitoring techniques, relaying appropriate information to government agencies, and distributing information about the importance of forest protection.

Purpose: To conduct a public opinion poll about a proposed dam project in the indigenous community. Additional activities include disseminating poll results through local and regional media, and holding a roundtable meeting in Tura village that includes indigenous leaders and representatives of RusHydro Company.

Purpose: To assess the socio-environmental impacts of mining activities on indigenous Teleut villages, including violations of traditional land rights and degradation of natural resources in the area. This organization works to preserve and promote the cultural, environmental, and social well being of the Teleut indigenous community through awareness-raising and community-based activism.

Purpose: To increase public awareness about alternative energy as an element of a campaign against the Katun Dam project. Activities include seminars on energy-saving techniques for local authorities and citizens; this organization also monitors projects including the Altai-China gas pipeline and distributes information in Russia, Mongolia, Kazakhstan and China.

Purpose: To hold a seminar to train thirty public environmental inspectors and unite them into the Chukotka branch of the Russian Social Ecological Union, enabling them to conduct an analysis of the modern ecological situation in Chukotka and develop concrete actions in collaboration with regional public inspectors and local environmental groups.

Purpose: To create a video featuring rare and archival footage of the Argun river, which runs along the Russia-China border, and has experienced deterioration from increased chemical feedstock mining activity on the Russian side, and population growth in settlements on the China side, over the past ten years. The video will be distributed on DVD and shown on local and regional television.

Purpose: To create a series of 10 educational television programs about the environmental threats to the marine biodiversity of Peter the Great Bay. The programs will be released on DVD and distributed in local nature reserve centers, museums, schools, and other educational institutions in Russia's southeastern Primorye Territory.

Purpose: To assess the environment and health of two Tubalars indigenous communities affected by test rocket launches in the Altai region over the last 40 years. The organization will collect data and complete medical tests and disseminate the results in the media and to public officials; they will also file an appeal seeking just compensation for affected families to the Office of the Public Prosecutor.

Purpose: To create public awareness about the negative socio-environmental impacts of the proposed Katun Dam project in the Altai Republic. Activities include providing information about environmental and human rights to indigenous peoples in the area, holding round-table discussions with impacted parties, and working to strengthen links between the public, government and business.

Purpose: To increase environmental monitoring and protection in the Altai Republic. Activities include distributing information, carrying out assessments and documenting environmental violations, and holding community meetings to develop participatory community monitoring programs.

Purpose: To conduct an environmental awareness campaign about the current condition of the Ob River in western Siberia's Altai Krai, Altai Republic, Tomsk, Omsk, Kemerovo, and Novosibirsk Regions. A festival, which will be held as part of the campaign, will receive coverage in the local and regional media, and will include seminars for teachers, meetings with local administrators, and clean ups along the river and its tributaries.

Purpose: To prevent illegal fishing of sturgeon in Tomsk Oblast by monitoring certain areas of the Ob River during the wintering of surgeon, when fish is most accessible to poachers. The organization will report poaching violations to the relevant state nature protection agencies, involve local student activists in monitoring, and attract public and government attention to the issue of illegal fishing through mass media and printed materials.

Purpose: To increase social and environmental awareness about the proposed development of Hamna River polymetal deposit, Sardana, which is one of ten industrial development megaprojects supported by government in Saha Republic. Additional activities include conducting a mass media campaign to attract public and media attention to the potential dangers of the deposit's development.

Purpose: To return four hectares of the forest in Akademgorodok back to a protected status. Specifically, the group will challenge the state ecological assessment that allowed a housing development, ultimately depriving the area of the protected status.

Purpose: To support a local public awareness campaign on environmental threats to the Lake Chany ecosystem. The group will make and distribute relevant apparel, create educational leaflets, and organize roundtable discussions between environmental activists, community representatives, and government officials; hopefully, these activities will help lay the groundwork for the establishment of a biological reserve at the lake.

Purpose: To establish an entry check point at the Karakol Valley’s entrance in the village of Bichiktu-Boom, as a step toward creating more effective protection of the sacred valley. The entry point will be used to document and monitor tourist inflow, and to provide information and accommodation for visitors.

Purpose: To work with students, teachers, and community leaders in 6 towns along the Lake Baikal's shore to organize a number of trail-building and eco-education projects around the lake. The project will include a series of workshops and seminars, as well as one winter and one summer project (each two weeks in length), which will provide a practical opportunity for participants to work on and extend the Great Baikal Trail into their own neighborhoods.

Purpose: To conduct a community water quality assessment of the watershed adjacent to the Ozernoe pyrite-polymetallic deposit, which is being considered for development. The organization will hold workshops on water quality monitoring techniques in three villages; organize an ongoing public monitoring campaign; purchase necessary technical equipment; and create a map of the results of the assessment.

Purpose: To support the organization's role as the Institute of Professional Environmental Practice Eastern European Caucasus Central Asia Regional Hub. Additional activities include building support for civil society organizations involved in chemicals management.

Purpose: To support efforts to protect the pine forest near Bazoi Village. The group will lead community cleanup efforts; raise awareness about waste management and forest fire prevention; strengthen the dialogue with regional authorities towards establishing an official protected area; and help to build the network of local groups working on similar issues.

Purpose: To organize an awareness campaign about domestic waste pollution along the Ob River, which negatively affects fisheries and drinking water quality in nearby communities. The organization will collaborate with local authorities and state nature protection agencies to plan field trips, monitoring programs, and clean-ups.

Purpose: To restore bird habitat and promote public education about the importance of conservation efforts. This groups is comprised of middle school teachers and seeks to mobilize the local community to participate in conservation activities.

Purpose: To support reforestation efforts in the Povarenka Village and raise awareness about rare and endemic plants in the area. The group will conduct a census of the endangered plants, then create and install three interpretive information boards in the area to inform the local population about the threat of nearby forest fires, landfills, and unregulated recreational activity.

Purpose: To increase awareness about the negative health and environmental impacts of pesticides used in local gardens. Additional activities include leading seminars for gardeners groups about sustainable alternatives and launching a radio and print media campaign on the issue.

Purpose: To support an antinuclear campaign against the construction of the proposed Baltic Nuclear Power Plant. Project activities will include raising awareness at the local, regional and international levels through public and mass media campaigns; organizing active public participation in the environmental impact assessment procedure; and writing a collective letter to the Russian president.

Purpose: To support an environmental evaluation in the area of the projected Sakhalin-Khabarovsk- Vladivostok pipeline, in collaboration with the Far Eastern Branch of Russian Academy of Science. The results will be used to determine compliance with environmental regulations during the construction and operation of the pipeline; the organization will also create a regional council of experts to improve environmental policies surrounding large-scale infrastructure development projects in Russia's Far East.

Purpose: To maintain efforts to establish a national park and cultural monument in the Tyva Republic by ensuring public input in the planning process. The project will enable local and indigenous communities to protect their lands from exploitation by foreign extraction companies, specifically by encouraging public participation in public hearings about the Lunsin Chinese Mining company that extracts gold and minerals in the traditional lands and reindeer herding areas of Todzhi people.

Purpose: To support restoration and protection efforts at Lake Toroki and launch an anti-poaching monitoring program and a public awareness campaign. Additional activities include leading clean-ups of the lake and shoreline, placing interpretive signs, and designating areas for fishing, hunting, and recreation.

Purpose: To create a one hectare outdoor recreation zone in the Kozhevnikovo Settlement, which lacks any such public space, in collaboration with local government, forestry officials, schools, and volunteers. The project will be covered by local media outlets and a video will be made for distribution among the schools of Tomsk Oblast.

Purpose: To organize public monitoring of the construction of a railroad in Khangalas region. The project activities will include: visiting construction sites; organizing public hearings; contacting the construction company and local authorities in order to get access to project documents; and distributing obtained information through local and regional mass media.

Purpose: To create and maintain a website that will inform local citizens and tourists about environmental issues relevant to the area's summer outdoor recreation industry, as well as information about rare and endangered plant and animal species inhabiting the protected areas of Novosibirsk Oblast. Additional activities include organizing a photo exhibition highlighting the negative environmental impacts of tourism in the area.

Purpose: To organize and carry out a series of environmental awareness and waste management events in Tomsk. The events will include: designing and distributing printing materials about waste management in Tomsk city; conducting clean-ups and placing trash containers on city streets; and collaborating with local waste management facilities to organize trash removal.

Purpose: To monitor the construction of the Eastern Siberia-Pacific Ocean pipeline project, with an emphasis on protecting the Lena River. The Center will carry out a public media campaign to raise awareness about the potential impacts of the pipeline, and meet with local authorities and community representatives, with the goal of achieving stricter environmental accountability measures for the pipeline construction.

Purpose: To publish and distribute a booklet about environmental volunteer opportunities for youth in the region. This organization promotes sustainable forestry alternatives, public monitoring programs, and participating in policymaking processes.

Purpose: To support a public awareness and monitoring program in Igumenskyi Park that seeks to raise awareness about the threat of housing developments encroaching on the park through informational booklets, newspaper articles, and information stands. Additional activities include restoration activities and construction of a playground.

Purpose: To construct a nature trail in the Larinskyi Nature Reserve, a popular recreation destination just outside the city of Tomsk, and the site of environmental education programs. The new trail will minimize damage to the Reserve's ecosystem, which is home to many rare and endangered plants, particularly through the installation of trash cans and interpretive signs.

Purpose: To conduct a public assessment and environmental impact analysis of the gas pipeline Sakhalin Khabarovsk-Korea, with a focus on Khasanskyi District Prymorie. Specifically, the organization will involve prominent environmental experts in the project activities.

Purpose: To promote energy saving activities and attitudes by creating an Energy-Saving Center in the local library. The organization will collaborate with the library to purchase new window frames, an autonomous heating system, and energy saving light bulbs; create an information board on energy saving activities; conduct regular lectures in the library on energy-saving methods; and try to establish partnerships with local businesses to raise more funds for this initiative.

Purpose: To publish and distribute a booklet about successful Greengrants-funded projects in Russia, as well as information about grant writing,. The booklet will be distributed among environmental organizations in Siberia and the Russian Far East.

Purpose: To address environmental pollution associated with the disposal of car batteries in Krasnoyarsk. Activities include assessing contamination levels, pressing the Nature Protection Office to review company practices, and initiating awareness-building campaign.

Purpose: To support an initiative to build environmentally-sound residences out of pressed straw. The group will partner with the Altai Institute of Architecture and Design on the project.

Purpose: To increase awareness about environmental issues in Novosibirsk. Activities include youth photo exhibitions and public media events.

Purpose: To hold environmental festivals in Altai Republic and Ataisky Krai to increase environmental awareness among students and environmental groups. Additional activities include holding meetings to generate dialogue between the public and local authorities, and strengthening support of indigenous ways of life.

Purpose: To conduct geo-botanical research of the River Izdrevaja Valley and Berezovskyi Zakaznik which will assess the overall ecological health of the area and create an inventory of the rare plants and animals living there. Led by a group of students, they will also carry out clean ups in collaboration with the local population and create a brochure about local environmental problems.

Purpose: To raise awareness about housing construction threats to the city's parks and recreational areas. This organization works to create a more inclusive political process for the women of Irkutsk.

Purpose: To implement an environmental education program in schools throughout the Primorsky Krai region, to increase awareness of issues like climate change and natural resource management. The program will promote partnerships among schools, non-governmental organizations, scientific institutes, and local businesses.

Purpose: To publish and distribute a booklet that highlights environmental problems in Tomsk. This organization collaborates with the media, educational institutions, local and regional non-governmental organizations, and local government to promote environmental rights.

Purpose: To implement a reforestation campaign in the Tomskaja Oblast region. Two hectares of cedars will be planted; the organization will also design an awareness-building campaign about the importance of cedar protection and preservation.

Purpose: To protect the bat population in the Barsukovskaja Cave by building a lattice fence at the entrance. The cave is home to the largest colony of bats in Western Siberia.

Purpose: To hold a seminar for 60 youth to build environmental leadership. Also to publish and distribute a booklet with environmental information about challenges in the Tomsk region to regional high school and university students.

Purpose: To build awareness among residents of Olekminskyi about the impacts of the Siberia-Pacific oil pipeline. Communities will be trained to monitor the environmental impacts of the project on the Lena River .

Purpose: To organize a clean-up of the coastal zone of Hasanskyi, and to monitor the region's pollution levels. An environmental awareness campaign will be launched to increase awareness about coastal pollution.

Purpose: To monitor and clean up eleven areas along the Irtysh River and the border with Kazakhstan. The goal is to apply for protected area status for these areas.

Purpose: To educate the public about the importance of protecting rare animal species in the southeast region of the Altai. Activities include producing videos, posters, and booklets for distribution among schools and hunters in the Kosh-Agachskogo area.

Purpose: To organize a series of workshops for students attending the universities in Vladivostok and Nakhodka where they will develop nature protection projects particularly focused on monitoring environmental conditions of the Southern Primorski region. This organization works to support initiatives of noncommercial organizations and individuals directed at increasing the public role in decision-making processes related to preserving the environment.

Purpose: To protect the Karakol Valley, which is considered sacred by local indigenous peoples of the Altai region. Activities include creating a community-based legal information center with internet access, and publishing and distributing legal human rights information pertinent to indigenous peoples.

Purpose: To publish and distribute environmental education teaching materials for instructors in Tomsk. Issues to address in the materials include water contamination, household waste, and energy saving measures.

Purpose: To send three specialists to the Toturo-Kirengski Traditional Land-Use Reserve to help community members develop eco- and ethno-tourism practices. Activities include planning an intinerary for visitors, training native guides to work with tour groups, and surveying the reserve for native medicinal plants for collection.

Purpose: To increase environmental awareness and promote truly sustainable eco-tourism at a popular tourist site by Lake Baikal, through interpretive displays, improved campsites, and nature guides. Also to assess the cumulative impacts of tourism in the region, and to provide recommendations for future tourism development.

Purpose: To implement a series of environmental initiatives in Petrovka Village, including creating an ecological committee and establishing an environmental center in the village library. The organization plans to hold regular committee meetings in this space to discuss measures to improve the district's environmental health.

Purpose: To increase youth awareness about waste reduction and recycling. Workshops will bring together activists, experts and local citizens to develop initiatives to implement waste recycling programs in Omsk.

Purpose: To implement a plan to prevent illegal elk and reindeer poaching and promote animal protection. Along with monitoring activities, the group will also undertake an information campaign to raise awareness about the importance of elk and reindeer protection.

Purpose: To carry out baseline research before the Eastern Siberia Pacific Ocean oil pipeline begins to operate. The results will allow the group to monitor environmental changes caused by the pipeline and advocate for laws that protect indigenous rights in the region.

Purpose: To monitor the construction site of an oil pipeline that will impact Kozmino Village and the Manankina and Kmylovka Rivers. The findings of the citizen monitoring will be published and distributed to various stakeholders.

Purpose: To develop approaches to sustainable natural resource management in conjunction with park managers, the Ministry of Natural Resources, the Ministry of Tourism, and community members. Activities include organizing public meetings for citizens, initiating a public media campaign around sustainability, and working closely with key stakeholders in the area.

Purpose: To build awareness about the negative impacts of industrial pollution in Siberia. Activities include organizing a regional conference with participation from public organizations, local citizens, and government administration; and distributing environmental education materials to seventy regional industries.

Purpose: To support youth environmental initiatives to improve the ecosystems of the Saltaim and Tenis lakes, which comprise important habitat for many rare birds. The organization will work with administrators and government representatives to decrease human impact on these unique lake systems.

Purpose: To survey and register land within the Ooch Enmek Nature Park, in order to comply with new government regulations. The preserve includes six villages as well as numerous sacred sites for the region's indigenous peoples.

Purpose: To hold seminars throughout the Altai region to inform people about the possible socio-environmental impacts of a proposed gas pipeline project. The seminars will provide space for people to voice their opinion on the project.

Purpose: To assess the degree to which International Financial Institutions have failed to enforce benefit-sharing commitments with local communities, specifically around the Novatek Gas project in the Yamal-Nenets Autonomous District and the Timan Bauxite mine in the Komi Republic. The Center will analyze these projects in the context of World Bank finance regulations.

Purpose: To improve radio communication among rangers and foresters who work in different parts of the Tigireksky nature reserve, with the goal of creating more effective management techniques. Additional activities include increasing local awareness about the reserve and involving youth in forest management.

Purpose: To independently monitor indigenous Evenks land that has been heavily exploited by gold mining. The organization will also conduct an awareness-building campaign about land rights among the Evenks and initiate legal action against the mining companies.

Purpose: To assess the conditions of public parks in Krasnoyarsk. The organization will establish a working group to develop new laws to protect and improve these areas, and present a legislative initiative to the city council.

Purpose: To assess the conditions of the Nuja River, a heavily polluted water source for the region. The group will work with oil and gas companies as well as local authorities to clean up the river and improve access to clean water.

Purpose: To hold an International Citizens Hearing on the Decommissioning of Nuclear Power Plants and Nuclear/Radioactive Waste Management. The conference will also address local, regional, national, and international approaches to sustainable development.

Purpose: To increase public awareness and proactive policy around solid waste management issues in Tynda city. The outskirts of the city have become a dumping ground; the goal is to involve residents and students in a broad-scale clean-up effort.

Purpose: To develop a campaign to inform residents about the negative environmental impacts of the construction of a dam on the Irtysh River. Activities include expert independent analysis of the proposed dam, distributing the results to the public, and organizing several protest demonstrations.

Purpose: To increase circulation of the environmental newspaper Fresh Wind, and to establish networks with other Far Eastern environmental organizations to expand protected areas in Primorsky. This organization works to address regional environmental health issues by promoting sound, science-based policymaking.

Purpose: To teach the community about resource-saving measures to conserve electricity and water related to household activities. Activities include staging a drama show about conservation for children, organizing student workshops, and working to promote resource conservation through media sources.

Purpose: To support a local university environmental club, Green Leaf, to build awareness about protecting natural reserve areas in the Altai Krai region. Members will work through schools and organize clean-ups of Lake Krasilovo.

Purpose: To support the Save Yuntolovo environmental group, which focuses on the conservation of the Yuntolovo wetlands in the Baltic region. Specifically, this area is being threatened by the Western High Speed Highway, which is financed by various international institutions.

Purpose: To implement education initiatives around climate change. A series of seminars will be held at schools throughout the Baikal region about the challenges climate change and unsustainable energy use pose for Siberia; part of the project includes a regional youth conference to promote youth involvement in designing energy-saving strategies.

Purpose: To hold a series of community fieldtrips to the steppe ecosystem of Kalastuevskyi Chir as part of a project to design and implement appropriate land management practices. This organization focuses on building environmental and cultural awareness among youth.

Purpose: To build awareness about the need to protect the Argun River ecosystem, and to prevent illegal wildlife poaching. This group was created to protect the river and promote public participation in environmental protection efforts.

Purpose: To protect three nature reserves in Amur Oblast through increased public awareness, clean-ups, and the construction of eco-trails. The group also organizes eco-tours, camps, and related field trips to increase public awareness about the importance of protecting nature.

Purpose: To support forest nurseries at four schools through the creation of a coordination center that will provide monitoring. Local students will also be taught methods of nature conservation through seminars and trainings.

Purpose: To support reforestation projects through planting and growing cedar seedlings, monitoring cedar plantations, and installing feeding racks for birds and animals. This group organizes scientific and research projects aimed at the protection and preservation of the taiga forests of northeastern Russia's Altai Krai region.

Purpose: To develop an ethnic-eco-tourism project to provide a sustainable source of income and relieve pressure on illegal hunting and fishing. The group is working to preserve the culture and traditions of the Telengits.

Purpose: To create a collection of clothes made from environmentally-friendly materials and conduct a seminar to teach student designers in Krasnoyarsk about eco-materials, eco-clothes and eco-designing. The collection will be covered in local mass media.

Purpose: To formally register and offer capacity-building support for the regional public organization Todzha. The goal is to increase public participation in environmental protection efforts, especially in the face of ore deposit development and railway construction.

Purpose: To improve environmental protection capacity among the Selkupy indigenous peoples, with the goal of protecting traditional ways of life. Activities include producing and distributing media materials on waste pollution and forest fire prevention and holding a series of public meetings and round table discussions.

Purpose: To create an environmental education center in the Krasnyi Yar Middle School. The center will promote learning around issues include industrial water pollution and environmental protection for rivers in the area.

Purpose: To create a school forestry program to plant cedar trees in the Altai region. The goal of this program is to involve schoolchildren in environmental activities and raise environmental awareness among the greater community.

Purpose: To develop tourism infrastructure in the Udygeiskaja Legend National Park. This work will be carried out in collaboration with park staff and local volunteers.

Purpose: To organize an awareness-building campaign about the negative socio-environmental impacts of chemical plants in Irkutsk and Angarsk. Activities include publishing brochures about the contamination and organizing an air and water monitoring program.

Purpose: To support a campaign against uncontrolled cedar logging in the Kemerovskaja Oblast. The group will organize a series of meetings between village residents and the State Forest Protection Agency to promote logging monitoring and appropriate forest management.

Purpose: To reforest abandoned gold mining sites around Lake Baikal. Activities include promoting the indigenous knowledge of the Eroo population as it relates to ecological restoration, in conjunction with the technical knowledge of gold mining experts.

Purpose: To carry out a community-based reforestation project in Tomsk. Activities include creating a tree nursery and designing an environmentally-sound wind power plant to supply electricity among the area's biological research stations.

Purpose: To support the Chemical Safety Programme, which aims to increase awareness about the effects of persistent organic pollutants on human health and the environment. Eco-Accord also aims to facilitate the ratification of the Stockholm Convention in the Eastern European, Caucuses and Central Asia region.

Purpose: To clean up several water springs that serve as a source of potable water. This organization has been working for 12 years to promote environmental education and awareness in Krasnochekovo Village.

Purpose: To research public attitudes towards protected areas in Novosibirsk Oblast and present the findings to regional authorities. The group will also organize an event to raise public awareness about the parks and attract local resources to support them.

Purpose: To cover the costs associated with publishing and distributing the newspaper Your Environment. Funds will also be used to send organization representatives to remote regions in Kamchatka where they will be researching fishing violations and the construction of a gas pipeline.

Purpose: To produce and distribute 3,000 informational booklets about the negative impacts of prescribed burns in agricultural areas. These fires compromise environmental health and threaten the region's bird population.

Purpose: To produce and distribute brochures about potential impacts of the proposed gas pipeline project in the Altai. Also to hold roundtable discussions with people in the region who will be impacted by the proposed construction.

Purpose: To enable representatives to travel to the Motygino region to build awareness about the impacts of a proposed dam project. Activities include conducting and Environmental Impact Assessment, the results of which will be submitted to local, regional, and federal government agencies.

Purpose: To conduct an independent evaluation of the Severskaja power station. The findings will be distributed throughout the region and will serve as the basis for a series of public events related to atomic energy production and environmental threats.

Purpose: To assess the natural resources of the Onguren region, with the goal of promoting local management. The organization will also promote a specially protected area for local indigenous communities.

Purpose: To collaborate with local authorities on the shores of Lake Baikal to develop land use plans that favor community-based development projects and incorporate a network of hiking trails. This area is threatened by outside investors who seek to develop mega resort complexes along the lakefront.

Purpose: To leverage government support for environmental activities, by organizing grant competitions in conjunction with the local administration. This project will also be used as a feasibility study in the development of a Russian Greengrants Alliance of Funds member.

Purpose: To continue the production of the newsletter, which covers environmental issues of interest to local youth. The organization plans to expand the newsletter's circulation.

Purpose: To organize a series of seminars and a booklet to educate local communities on how to recycle and re-use plastic bottles for household purposes. This group also implements regional reforestation projects.

Purpose: To hold a seminar for environmental organizations to discuss Russian environmental law, website design, organizing, and other relevant issues. The outcomes of the meeting will be published and distributed among Altai environmental organizations.

Purpose: To address the negative impacts of household waste in Nadezhdinsky Region. Contests will be held in five local schools for students to design recycling systems, which will be displayed in a public exhibition.

Purpose: To protect Lake Argem, a culturally and ecologically significant resource. Activities include creating a management plan, building a house for park guards, and organizing community members to support the project.

Purpose: To conduct a pilot program on household waste separation and recycling in Novosibirsk and Berdsk. The program will then enable the group to complete a cost-benefit analysis and present the findings to public officials.

Purpose: To hold a citizen clean-up of the left bank of the Bazaiha River, which flows through the Torgashinskoe Plateau and is home to many wildlife species. Additional activities include building public awareness about habitat protection, monitoring recreation areas, and implementing a recycling campaign for local households.

Purpose: To increase environmental awareness among youth by holding a series of school seminars, conferences, festivals, and tours to local nature reserves. This organization works to bring together the youth organizations of Tomsk to create a network of likeminded groups united to create change around environmental issues.

Purpose: To protect the city's parks and obtain an official Object of Cultural Heritage recognition for the city. The group is also pursuing eight lawsuits against local construction companies that are violating zoning laws.

Purpose: To organize a campaign to clean up the Aspen Stream, which has been impacted by large-scale logging. The Center will reforest the banks of the stream, hold clean-up activities, and create recreational areas for local residents.

Purpose: To improve waste management and water quality. The organization will hold a series of student-taught waste management training workshops for local businesses.

Purpose: To complete an environmental impact assessment of a thermal power station. Also to develop a media campaign to build awareness about the negative socio-environmental impacts of industrial pollution.

Purpose: To hold a field trip for local students to study the natural environment of the Nerungrinskyi area. Additional activities include organizing a citizen clean-up and evaluating residential water quality.

Purpose: To create and distribute a publication that focuses on environmental concerns, including oil and gas development and mega-dams, to residents of the Altai region. This organization focuses on environmental education and promotes youth engagement with environmental issues.

Purpose: To protect water resources in Omsk from pollution and promote public participation in water resource management. The organization aims to unite the regional environmental movement and to strengthen partnerships among various stakeholders in water management.

Purpose: To document the environmental and health impacts of a proposed solid waste storage area near the Senkina River. The group will work towards initiating legal action against the site.

Purpose: To protect the rights of indigenous communities in the northern Sakha Republic, which are threatened by a hydroelectric power station on the Timpton River. Purpose: To clean up and reforest two nature sanctuaries--Lake Kazachka and Suetskyi Dome--with the participation of high school students, forestry staff, and the village administration. 40,000 seedlings will be planted to reforest 10 hectares of degraded lands.

Funds will be used to organize a coalition of local tribal communities along the Tigil River to promote national wildlife management, protect fishing places from poachers, and create better measures to protect the salmon on which the Kamchatka rely.

Purpose: To bring attention to the negative environmental consequences of the mega Bogunchanskaya Dam project on the Angara River, the largest hydroelectric project under construction in Russia. The group will launch a broad information campaign, create a website, and produce a video entitled 'Environmental Problems of the Boguchanskaya Dam Construction'.

Purpose: To unite leaders of the youth environmental movement in Luchegorsk City through conservation projects. Activities include an environmental assessment of the Pozharskyi area, and a public education campaign to draw attention to the problems of environmental contamination and biodiversity loss.

Purpose: To create public awareness of the ecological and cultural importance of nature sanctuaries in the Altai region through production of a video that will be aired on a regional television station as well as press articles, and culminating in a discussion with local government officials and the State Assembly. This organization works to preserve and restore the cultural heritage of the indigenous peoples of the Altai.

Purpose: To monitor the environmental condition of the Osha River; activities include involving youth in monitoring and clean up, and creating and distributing a report about the findings of the assessment to the State Ecological Department. This group is a branch of the Omsk Children and Youth Ecological Center.

Purpose: To clean up small rivers in the Khabarovskyi Krai region that have been contaminated by industrial pollution and consequently caused serious health problems for local people. Monitoring, clean-up, and environmental education activities will be completed involving student associations and citizens as well as municipal agencies.

Purpose: To analyze the soil, water, and human health pollution impacts in a area believed to be contaminated by a local tin smelter. The report will be submitted as part of a lawsuit to force the company to clean up contamination and provide compensation to local people whose health has been adversely affected.

Purpose: To organize a youth environmental festival that focuses on recycling and the importance of protected areas; the event will be covered by the media and followed up with a television program on the same issues. This group focuses on promoting environmental awareness among youth.

Purpose: To carry out an environmental awareness campaign in Nizhnaja Eltsovka about solid waste pollution and its impacts on the Eltsovka River. A meeting will be held with the heads of the relevant municipal agencies to pressure for halting logging and promoting clean up activities.

Purpose: To protect a cedar forest that is threatened by new building constructions. Activities include organizing public monitoring groups, a clean-up campaign, and reforestation projects.

Purpose: This branch of the Ecological Center works to promote environmental awareness in the Sargatka Municipal District of Omskaja Oblast. Funds will be used to restore Lake Inberen and the surrounding rivers through reforestation and cleaning up a natural spring.

Purpose: To create a network of environmental organizations in the Amur region that will focus on public education, a media campaign, and increasing citizen voice in advising environmental legislature. Green World is a youth environmental movement that promotes environmental awareness among the local population.

Purpose: To support the organization's trail-building youth camps, which promote youth environmental education and active participation in the environmental movement. The Lake Baikal region is the focus area for a system of hiking trails, as part of an initiative to promote ecotourism and economic development for local communities.

Purpose: To monitor power lines in Tomsk Oblast to assess the threat that they pose to birds, thousands of which die each year as a result of contact with the lines. The organization will complete a study that identifies the area's most vulnerable bird species and outlines a long-term protection plan.

Purpose: To promote clean solid waste management and prevent new illegal dumping grounds for household and industrial solid waste pollution. Activities include publishing a manual on solid waste management, creating a video on proper techniques, conducting seminars on waste management laws, documenting current illegal dumps, and organizing clean-ups.

Purpose: To clean up illegal waste from around a freshwater spring, and to monitor the water quality. As a result of this project, there will be an accessible source of water for local villagers.

Purpose: To conduct a campaign to protect the Manchurian Fir Tree of the southern Primorski Krai region. This association of journalists works to promote ecological awareness and knowledge, and to encourage government bodies to make environmentally-sustainable decisions.

Purpose: To support a collaborative tree planting involving students, local residents, government officials, and logging company representatives. An information booklet will also be published and distributed that discusses the value of the southern Taiga ecosystem.

Purpose: To acquire protected status for an area threatened by illegal logging and waste pollution. the necessary documentation about the area will be collected and submitted to the appropriate agency. Purpose: This youth journalist club covers activities of local youth clean up campaigns through an environmental page in the regional newspaper. Funds will be used to print three special edition issues of its environmental bulletin and begin work on a new media project about endangered plants and animals in the Kozhevnikovo area.

Purpose: To teach local people about the importance of protecting the natural heritage of the Novosibirsk area; activities include field trips, the publication of an educational handbook, and the production of a video about nature preserves. This initiative group was created by teachers and students of the Novosibirsk State University in the Botany and Ecology department.

Purpose: To hold a seminar for teachers in the Bolotnino region on rare and protected plants in the area, and to create a public center to monitor the state of rare plants. Additional activities include organizing field trips and school research events to conduct a rare plant census, the preparation of recommendations for the protections of rare plant species, and holding a conference to publicize the findings of the project.

Purpose: To assess the environmental damages to Lake Zharyldykol, located in the northwest part of Omsk, which has been degraded by illegal fishing and cattle grazing. Clean up and restoration activities will also be organized, with the goal of establishing a nature monument status for the lake.

Purpose: To fund a public education campaign about the importance of rare and threatened plants, with the goal of reducing illegal rare plant smuggling. Educational seminars with customs workers will be held, in addition to producing a brochure about how to identify plants that may be smuggled across the border in this region of the Altai Republic.

Purpose: To preserve and protect the Kamyshlovka River, a key ornithological area, by promoting public awareness and dialogue between citizens and government officials. Activities include creating a map of the area to be protected, organizing student clean-up expeditions, coordinating bird protection teams, and organizing a public conference about the project.

Purpose: To hold seminars in the Tomsk area with a coalition of scientists, government representatives, non-governmental organizations, and wildlife managers to address environmental problems in the region. The Center's members include Tomsk Polytechnic University professors and students, and works to bring greater public attention to environmental issues, especially radioactive pollution.

Purpose: To conduct a series of cleanups in and around Inder Village, and to form a monitoring group to protect the coastal zone of the nearby lake and nature sanctuary area. This women's association aims to improve the environment in the region and increase public awareness regarding environmental issues.

Purpose: To improve environmental protection efforts in the Berezovsky Wildlife Area. Activities include conducting a wildlife census, replanting trees, creating an ecological map of the protected area, and building public awareness about the importance of the area.

Purpose: For a clean-up project in the coastal area of Livadiya, which has suffered a severe solid waste problem resulting from heavy tourism impacts. This organization works to organize and coordinate environmental and social initiatives in the Nakhodka City District of Livadyia.

Purpose: To establish a public campaign to protect the Bolshaja River in the area of Bolsherechie, Omsk. Activities include meetings with local citizens and government officials, organizing clean-up trips, and establishing stronger links among environmental groups.

Purpose: To support two projects: a public campaign around the problem of radioactive waste in the Yenisei River; and a campaign to bring attention to the repression of Russian non-governmental organizations by the government. One goal is to create more links between the Russian legislature and non-governmental organizations to create a space for dialogue and public opinion.

Purpose: To support Eco-Accord's Chemical Safety Program, which focuses on raising awareness about the effects of persistent organic pollutants on human health and the environment. Eco-Accord also aims to facilitate the ratification of the Stockholm Convention in the Eastern Europe, Caucuses and Central Asia region as part of its work to seek new approaches and solutions to environmental, economic and social problems at the local, national, and global level.

Purpose: To increase and diversify environmental education materials available to the public along the Lake Baikal trail system. The trails currently cover more than 400 miles and provide a key opportunity to introduce conservation to rural populations.

Purpose: To generate awareness about the problems of industrial pollution and household waste in the Inya river. Specific activities include involving the local population in clean up efforts, distributing informational booklets on the issue, and creating a map of the river and adjacent protected areas that indicates the main points of pollution.

Purpose: To initiate legal action against a Moscow-based mining company that extracts manganese deposits. The goal of the legal action is to prevent the re-licensing of this company, and to continue the organization's awareness-building campaign about the negative impacts of extractive industries throughout the region.

Purpose: To reforest two hectares of degraded land in the village of Kozhevnikovo, and fence it off to protect it from cattle grazing. This youth-focused group is also developing a proposal to submit to the village authorities that will promote broader reforestation efforts.
