Purpose: To organize the 8th National Assembly of Environmentally Affected Peoples (NAEAP) where there will be a prehearing on the environmental destruction in the Michoacan state. The event will be held in the community of Cheran, where, like the other NAEAP participants, they are struggling with large industry and infrastructure projects and the resulting social, economic, and human health impacts.

Purpose: To promote sustainable development and a positive change in the relationship between rural communities in El Pescadero and their natural resources. The group will initiate a number of outreach and training programs within the community, including a children's education program. These will encourage waste management, proper consumptive habits, recycling, water catchment systems, and food security within the community.

Purpose: To protect Barriere Lake from development projects, including a $25 million mine proposed by Copper One. The group will engage community youth and launch a public education campaign to increase public support. Additionally, the group will pressure the company to stop its work in the area by raising investor awareness of the issues.

Purpose: To improve the practices in fisheries and aquaculture management by increasing the supply of and demand for sustainable seafood. The group will develop aquaculture and sustainable seafood programs, including an evaluation of "sustainability" standards, educating key audiences about standards and their effectiveness, supporting development of new closed containment farms and linking them to markets, and eliminating the risk of pathogens from open salmon farms to wild salmon. It will conduct education programs for the public, train community-based sustainable seafood ambassadors, promote the use of Monterey Bay Aquarium's lists, and evaluate seafood rankings used for purchasing products in the public.

Purpose: To ensure that adequate measures are taken to protect killer whale habitat and food supply. The group recently won protection for orca habitat under the Species at Risk Act in 2010/2011. The group will now partner with environmental nonprofits to engage the Department of Fisheries and Oceans to develop an action plan for the ruling's implementation.

Purpose: To conserve marine systems, including the glass sponge reef, by increasing public awareness and government participation. The group will develop a network of Marine Protected Areas (MPAs) and reach out to the media, the public, and the government through social media. Additionally, it will hold submarine dives and public consultations about the Hectate Strait to promote the topic.

Purpose: To protect marine resources by increasing access to information about the world's oceans. The group maintains an online system documenting over 200,000 marine species. With the funds the group will expand this system to include the sub-Antarctic and Antarctic regions.

Purpose: To raise awareness about the dangers of toxins, including their link to cancer, and advocate for better regulation. The group will partner with organizations working on cancer prevention, and conduct studies on common sources of toxins, such as triclosan, as well as campaign for toxic-free make-up.

Purpose: To organize events and actions during the River Run annual week of action against mercury contamination on Grassy Narrows territory. Decision-makers will be invited to eat mercury contaminated fish and the public and media will be engaged in pressuring the government to pay attention to the devastating mercury contamination of the Asubpeeschoseewagong Anishinabek territory.

Purpose: To support the group's Youth on Water, Sacred Headwaters, and Community Building programs, all of which encourage sustainable economies and environmental conditions throughout the Skeena watershed. The Youth on Water program will expand to incorporate the Kitwanga and Kitsegukla communities and continue teaching youth about conservation, while the Sacred Headwaters will continue to work with partners on understanding and protecting headwater ecosystems . The Community Building program will work with communities to encourage greater community-wide involvement in decisions around resources.

Purpose: To utilize new media approaches to engage the public on water quality and aquaculture issues in Canada. The group will launch a "Swim Guide" phone application that allows users to compare the water quality at over 400 beaches. It will also publish its Wild Salmon Recipes website featuring recipes and videos from top west coast chefs. With these platforms, the group aims to encourage British Colombia authorities to improve policies, monitoring, and enforcement efforts.

Purpose: To advocate for closed containment solutions for salmon farming. The group will compare the economic and environmental impacts and benefits of net-cages with that of closed containment systems and push for a moratorium on net-cage farms. Through research activities, it will support the development of commercial-scale closed containment systems as an alternative.

Purpose: To protect the Aamjiwnaang community and surrounding region from becoming the primary station for the Alberta tar sands. The group will create an in-depth plan of action, including a needs assessment and fundraising, to carry out a successful campaign. The funds will also be used to produce outreach material.

Purpose: To increase the capacity of the organization to continue and improve salmon and orca whale research and restoration efforts in the Broughton Archipelago of British Columbia. The group works closely with local communities and scientists to increase the location's accessibility to research and promote community involvement in restoring the ecosystem. The organization will hire a full-time manager to maintain and improve the station and oversee all research program implementation.

Purpose: To promote an organic produce market where organic foods may be sold at fair and socially responsible prices. The group will also help farmers reduce their costs, improve processes, and apply for organic certification.

Purpose: To help the El Pescadero community develop spaces for capacity building and socio-environmental activities. These activities will help the community identify sustainable development that protects their natural resources and improves their quality of life.

Purpose: To raise awareness of the environmental and human dangers of a proposed mega-dam in Tabasco. Using examples from communities in Chiapas and Guatemala, the organization will create informational material to disperse to communities.

Purpose: To promote sustainable development and a positive change in the relationship between rural communities in El Pescadero and their natural resources. Purpose: To help Xi-iuy indigenous voice their concerns over industrial agriculture and its intersection with climate change. The group will send 2 representatives from indigenous communities to the Rio +20 United Nations conference in Brazil where they will present these issues.

Purpose: To develop and offer a certificate program to 30 participants covering strategies for defending human rights and lands from the mining industry. In partnership with Iteso University, the certificate will involve over 128 hours in Mexico City, along with 5 concentrations.

Purpose: To put local communities at the center of local development aid projects and to increase local ownership in development initiatives in the Tshuapa district. There is a significant gap between aid resources and their actual impact on communities and environment. By organizing activities to incorporate local knowledge, context, and community participation and ownership, and share lessons-learned the group aims to initiate a community development program that effectively addresses pressing problems. These issues include land grabbing, unsustainable resource activities and use, and deforestation.

Purpose: To improve human and environmental health by reducing the use of toxins, pesticides, and persistent organic pollutants (POPs). The group will work with the health sector to develop a policy of purchasing mercury-free products. It will also create partnerships to encourage national and international implementation of the Stockholm Convention and the Strategic Approach to International Chemicals Management.

Purpose: To protect Veracruz citizens and their water resources from Goldgroup's proposed open-pit mine. The organization will campaign against the mine and its potential for contaminating Verde Lake, which would be located only 3 kilometers away.

Purpose: To defend and promote human and environmental rights. The group will work in the Sierra Fronteriza in the Chiapas Region of Mexico.

Purpose: To consolidate the organization to improve and strengthen programs in environmental education, organic agriculture, and healthy lifestyles. This consolidation will maximize the resources available for these projects. The group will become a civil association and build up the handicrafts store, where the group's products and services will be promoted.

Purpose: To resist monocultural and industrial agricultural activities by promoting organic fertilizers and crop diversification. The group will work with the community on ways of incorporating these methods in their mango orchards and sesame and corn fields.

Purpose: To promote culture and recreation to groups visiting the Ecological Park of Tepic in Nayarit. The group will use a variety of activities to provide basic and fundamental concepts in environmental education, sustainable practices, health, and recreation.

Purpose: To provide youth with income-generating opportunities. The group will provide trainings on recycling and teamwork as a source of employment.

Purpose: To address the connection between environment, society, and culture, in regards to nutrition within Tepic city. The group will organize workshops promoting stronger civil participation, nutritional self-sufficiency, and care for the environment.

Purpose: To protect native territories and forests from forest fires. The group will organize a team of 12 firefighters who will work with the community on firefighting and prevention techniques, including thinning and cleaning of high risk zones and creating fire breaches.

Purpose: To use urban gardens as a means to augment nutrition, increase productivity and thereby reduce crime, and promote environmental responsibility. The group will utilize biointensive organic methods and include all sectors of the community in the gardening activities.

Purpose: To promote recycling throughout the region. The group will use the funds to create a recycling cooperative.

Purpose: To strengthen the food production of families in San Jose Yocnajab and Chenchomajan by promoting agroecological practices. The families will learn how to use resources and technologies readily available in their communities, and the group will develop partnerships to provide any additional materials.

Purpose: To compile scientific research and develop an alliance supporting the Usumacinta River Campaign. The group will analyze gaps in research on the impacts of dams and work with dam-affected communities to protect their rights.

Purpose: To help community green spaces and classrooms and follow up on a youth-led project. The group will help youth improve the classrooms with fresh paint, new chairs, and blackboards. It will also facilitate the designing and painting of signs and fences for small gardens and the park.

Purpose: To continue working on a variety of environmental issues to better the quality of life for communities. The group will partner with the community to conduct a study aimed at raising awareness of environmental difficulties and sustainable practices and initiatives to mitigate them.

Purpose: To raise awareness of the dangers of the Sonora SI mega water project, which involves the construction of several dams and water pipelines. The group will organize a workshop and present possible local alternatives modeled after Mexican and global examples.

Purpose: To promote conservation, indigenous rights, and sustainable rights in Mexico. The group will work with indigenous groups to protect the San Pedro River from the destructive Las Cruces dam and efforts to divert water for gold and silver mining projects.

Purpose: To generate video material supporting the political and environmental struggle for indigenous communities. The group will focus on the welfare culture that has kept the communities dependent on the government and patronage of political parties. It will portray the reality of the communities' situation, human rights, and the importance of culture, land, and the environment.

Purpose: To help the Llano de las Flores community develop organic subsistence gardens to improve nutrition and reduce the strain on surrounding natural resources. These gardens will integrate vegetables, fruits, and medicinal plants grown from native seeds.

Purpose: To organize public forums and provide information on climate change, Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and Forest Degradation programs (REDD), and water issues. It will also send 50 participants to the International Conference in El Salvador on climate change and REDD issues.

Purpose: To increase awareness throughout Acatitan and Aguacaliente about conservation activities, including conservation easements. The group will organize a two-day event for ejido farmers and members to learn about the benefits of environmentally-friendly methods and see other ejidos already practicing similar activities.

Purpose: To save the long standing ceramic traditions of local women, which are known for hand painted themes of biodiversity and culture throughout the Sierra Gorda region. This establishment is run by women from Soledad de Guadalupe and the funds will be used to buy major equipment needed for ceramic production and distribution.

Purpose: To protect Mexican workers in the electronics industry from exposure to toxins and inadequate training. The group will train 200 workers on toxics and labor rights and review the safety standards of companies within the area. The group will also distribute printed educational material and advocate for changes to public policy.

Purpose: To help the Cañón de Cuatromilpas community improve their quality of life through gardening. The group will build a community garden - utilizing permaculture - and teach community members how to create their own gardens.

Purpose: To help the community develop stronger management of resources. The group will design workshops and a community project using common native plant material. Additionally the group will work with a partnered organization on reforestation and resource conservation activities.

Purpose: To reduce local dependence and depletion of natural resources by sustainably improving public facilities for passing tourists. By increasing the appeal of the Maguey Verde community, the community members will generate additional income from tourists and rely less on local natural resources.

Purpose: To help a local restaurant prepare for the new tourism route "The Culinary Road," which was developed to increase the appeal of the Sierra Gorda Biosphere Reserve for tourism. Funds will pay for improvements to both the kitchen and dining area.

Purpose: To teach community members about using recycled goods as a form of business. The group, with an emphasis on women and youth, will organize two workshops where participants will gain business and recycling skills.

Purpose: To implement a sustainable seafood and aquaculture program. Specific projects include improving closed containment technologies for salmon farming, conducting an economic valuation study of the surrounding ecosystems, advocating for stronger international aquaculture standards, and raising consumer awareness of sustainable seafood purchasing.

Purpose: To support indigenous communities in territory north of Ottawa, Canada. Mining exploration in this area is being conducted without consent and funds will be used to prevent further land exploitation and to preserve the integrity of the indigenous community that currently resides there.

Purpose: To protect the land of the indigenous group Kitchenuhmaykoosib Inninuwug (KI) from environmentally destructive activities. Funds will be used to educate the public about the KI Watershed Declaration and to support the organization's public campaign, which will include coalition building, speaking tours, press events, and public protests if necessary.

Purpose: To support a four-day gathering of 25 key female environmental activists from First Nations, with an emphasis on empowering young women to take on leadership roles. The gathering will provide a forum to discuss strategy, develop plans for coordinated actions, hold leadership workshops and traditional ceremonies, and establish mentorship relationships to support young women as emerging leaders and defenders of land and culture.

Purpose: To protect the Fraser River salmon and the public right to clean water in British Columbia. The "Pollution Patrol and Community Right to Know" Program will investigate and address community pollution concerns and assess pollution by means of mapping, water sampling, and identifying appropriate authorities to ensure future protection.

Purpose: To develop the online database of biological information for marine biodiversity research and ecosystem studies, circa 2008. Funds will be used to provide life-history data for all non-fish marine species of the world; provide occurrence data for the mapping of species; assign species to large marine ecosystems; and to assembly taxonomic data and code in the system.

Purpose: To build the capacity of the Gitxasan nation and people of the Upper Skeena in Canada to engage in action to protect wild salmon and their ecosystems and address issues of climate change and oil over-dependence. Funds will be used to print and distribute a number of publications and promotional material to address these issues, produce a Wild Foods DVD which will educate people especially youth on how to cook and preserve wild foods while also teaching them traditional conservation practices, and implement a youth leadership and advocacy program that will inspire youth to lead community development initiatives.

Purpose: To promote conservation of the Pacific white-sided dolphin. Funds will be used to conduct acoustical studies to determine the population structures, the effects of salmon bycatches, and the effects of human development.

Purpose: To protect Canadians' fundamental right to a healthy, natural environment through the defense and strengthening of the country's environmental laws. Funds will be used to fight a court ruling that is threatening the critical aspects of killer whale habitats.

Purpose: To protect and restore the marine environment and promote the sustainability of Georgia Strait and its adjoining waters and communities. Funds will be used in the Georgia Strait Alliance's Salmon Aquaculture Program, including researching the impacts of sea lice and the impact of closed containment technologies of salmon farms; ensuring new salmon farm regulations are implemented; exposing new incidents of disease and sea lice; providing resistance to the net-cage farming industry.

Purpose: To encourage environmentally sustainable and healthy methods of testing personal care products and cosmetics. Funds will be used . for a three year campaign to test these products, publish findings, collaborate wih the Canadian government to regulate production, and work with the media and retailers to increase awareness.

Purpose: To fight threats to indigenous lands and their rights. The organization will hold a three day educational training for members from the organization's alliance of First Nations (Nadleh Whut’en, Nak’azdli, Takla Lake, Saik’uz, and Wet’suwet’en), which are threatened by the proposed Tar Sands Northern Gateway Pipeline project.

Purpose: To conserve marine ecosystems that house the glass sponge reefs in Vancouver. Funds will be used to build an online presence through an interactive website and social media in order to support the development of a network of Marine Protected Areas.

Purpose: To support the Salmon Coast Field Station in Echo Bay, which serves to promote the restoration of wild salmon and orca whales, as well as the wider Broughton ecosystem as a model of sustaibable energy, gardening, and education. Funds will be used to fund a full-time, on-site manager who will oversee all research programs, visitor and volunteer services, facilities maitenance, and other outreach activities.

Purpose: To organize a series of workshops for highland communities on saddlery and olive oil production. The first part of the workshops will help growers improve the production of their products, and the second part will help provide youth with skills.

Purpose: To develop campaigns and strategies promoting conservation of biodiversity in the region. The group will raise awareness with printed materials, and cultivate soil health and medicinal plants for distribution throughout the region. Protecting biodiversity is vital for water management.

Purpose: To promote conservation of biodiversity through sustainable agriculture and medicinal plant cultivation. The group will hold community workshops and raise awareness through printed material on the benefits of sustainable practices and medicinal plants.

Purpose: To promote sustainable agricultural practices as a way to conserve biodiversity and water quality. The group will promote organic composting, including vermiculture, and the cultivation of edible mushrooms and vegetables through community workshops and a demonstration site.

Purpose: To restore bio- and crop diversity and help families conserve water, particularly in coffee and fruit production. The group will promote awareness of the importance of soil and native tree health, and hold workshops on water conservation and sustainable cultivation practices.

Purpose: To promote sustainable and organic community gardens and recycling practices. Drip irrigation and native plants will be used in the garden, and community workshops will be organized to promote environmental education.

Purpose: To address the negative impacts of the use of pesticides and other toxic substances to water and environmental health. The funds will be used to share information through social networking and their webpage, to produce to radio programs, and to engage in environmental education initiatives by hosting workshops and producing materials for distribution.

Purpose: To promote opportunities for regional economic sustainability through local cuisine by developing and equipping restaurants. With these eateries, a new tourism route called The Culinary Road (La Ruta del Sabor) through Sierra Gorda Biosphere Reserve in Mexico can be created, which will increase the appeal of the reserve as a tourist destination. As part of the improvement to these eateries, funds will be used to help apply for certification from the state.

Purpose: To analyze the perceptions and habits of locals to identify critical environmental and social issues, particularly around solid waste and water. The group will develop viable social, productive, and infrastructural solutions and encourage a study of the environmental culture in the San Pedro River Basin-Mezquital.

Purpose: To create and consolidate networks of resistance and solidarity among rural and urban communities, as well as grassroots organizations in Mexico. Specifically, funds will support the Mexican Chapter of the Permanent Peoples' Tribunal which is working to oppose the construction of a large dam known as La Parota.

Purpose: To support a collection and disposal campaign for used batteries in the municipality of La Paz. The campaign involves the installation of 50 containers for alkaline batteries for communities in and around La Paz, including Todos Santos, San Pedro, Los Planes, and San Bartolo. Awareness raising activities will be broadcasted through a variety of media outlets and the group will rigorously account for and properly dispose of collected materials.

Purpose: To strengthen the network of community groups. The group will organize two trainings that will build the capacity of local groups and businesses and provide specialization in first aid training and ecotourism.

Purpose: To promote national and international awareness of the impacts of the Cales y Morteros del Grijalva mine. The group will continue its work to defend both the environmental and human rights of the community threatened by this mine.

Purpose: To document environmental conflicts and create databases, maps, and indicators of the causes and results. The group will also gather information on the environmental conflicts where resistance resulted in sustainable alternatives, which may help activism become a source of expert knowledge.

Purpose: To establish a microenterprise for amaranth. This enterprise will market locally and organically produced amaranth in local markets.

Purpose: To promote local biodiversity through projects that preserve the cultivation of traditional medicinal plants and other native species and by advancing alternatives to pesticide use in the area. Funds will be used to support the participation of three indigenous representatives of populations affected by persistent organic pollutants (POPs) in the Conference of Parties of the Stockholm Convention

Purpose: To assess the health and level of pollution in estuarine ecosystems. The group will collect and analyze random samples of water and vegetation and organize cleanups. The information collected from the sites will be used in workshops for youth, fishermen, and the general public.

Purpose: To organize activities around the group's environmental and climate justice campaign. It will focus particularly on the impacts of asphalt production and deforestation in the San Cristobal mountains in Las Casas. The group will create and disperse printed materials and organize a local forum.

Purpose: To enable participation in the congress of scientific agro ecology of Latin America in Oaxtepec, Mexico. Specifically, funds will be used to pay for transportation and housing costs, development and production of technical reports on endosulfan, and the diffusion of materials and reports at the congress.

Purpose: To support a community awareness and education campaign that aims to change the relationship between people and the environment and promote sustainable use of natural resources in the community of Pescadero, Baja California del Sur. This will be achieved through three specific sub-programs initiated by community youth.

Purpose: To raise awareness about the consequences of gold and open pit mining. The group will develop a short documentary and music and theater shows. In total, the group will organize 8 performances and visit communities directly affected by the Concordia mining project.

Purpose: To produce an hour-long documentary of the activities of a caravan travelling from Mexico to Central America. The video will record the experiences and alternatives found by different groups to mega hydroelectric projects endangering their livelihoods.

Purpose: To improve water management and access for 10 Tsotsil indigenous families through a rainwater catchment system. This system will help support the community through the dry season and mitigate the effects of climate change.

Purpose: To start a composting project for El Zopilote coffee producers. Using the organic remnants of coffee plants left over from production and worms, the farmers will learn about vermiculture and organic fertilizers.

Purpose: To develop a documentary series to raise awareness about social and environmental issues. The documentary will include interviews, photographs, and video footage of the community.

Purpose: To recognize the social work conducted by indigenous communities in Sierra de Nayarit and their methods of protecting their rights. The group will conduct interviews and distribute a documentary about the people.

Purpose: To protect the local handicraft business through branding and organizational structure to market and sell products. The group will develop trainings on legal organization, billing procedures, use of barcodes, and participation in fairs. The trainings will also focus on accessing new outlets and developing and protecting a brand for the products.

Purpose: To propel the development and the sustainability of rural tourism through the promotion, recovery and strengthening of cultural values, and the development of training programs for community member operators. Funds will be used to carry out an analysis of the tourism offer of the Sierra Gorda region; to build consensus for an improvement plan; and to help the community operators to establish that plan on site.

Purpose: To oppose the proposed Shepard Point deep water port and road, which would threaten Copper River Delta, Prince William Sound and vital wild salmon habitat. Funds will be used to support legal actions, awareness and networking campaigns, and public meetings and discussions about the port, which would allow devastating resource extraction and actually hinder oil spill response effectiveness.

Purpose: To support the foundation's sustainable aquaculture program, which aims to ensure that production practices in Canada’s fish farming industry carry as few negative environmental and biological impacts on wild fish populations and marine ecosystems as is possible. The organization is evaluating and improving species protection initiatives, and working to improve marketing, labeling, and purchasing practices in Canada’s seafood market.

Purpose: To support a documentary film project aimed at mobilizing opposition to the Taseko Mines Ltd.'s proposed Prosperity Gold-Copper Mine in British Columbia. The mine development would require complete drainage of Fish Lake, which sits at the headwaters of the Taseko River.

Purpose: To hold a four day Indigenous Peoples Assembly to draft a plan of action related to Canadian mining companies and independent power projects that impact water routes, all-season resorts, and salmon fishing. Additionally, an International Statement regarding land rights struggles will be drafted highlighting the impacts and rights violations of the 2010 Winter Olympic Games, which took place on unceded native land of the Secwepemc and St’át’imc nations.

Purpose: To coordinate opposition to the government-proposed Site C Dam, which would devastate the Treaty 8 Territory of Peace River Valley First Nation peoples. Funds will support a conference of Treaty 8 and other First Nation Elders and leaders from BC, at which participants will share grassroots strategies and organize to protect their communities, wildlife, and water.

Purpose: To support the organization's Pollution Patrol and Public Right to Know program to improve the water quality of the Fraser River system. The organization will actively promote stewardship by maintaining a full-time citizen presence on the water, engage in regular pollution patrols by boat, continue to investigate and act on citizen pollution complaints, and inform the local community about the state of its waters.

Purpose: To expand the organization's efforts to reduce the negative environmental impacts of salmon farming in British Columbia. The organization will negotiate with salmon farm companies to improve their practices, work for regulatory reform at the provincial and federal levels, and encourage the development of a commercial-scale closed containment pilot fund.

Purpose: To call for reform of British Columbia’s conservation tenure system for submerged lands, which currently are granted only to industry and other private entities, generally for activities such as log booming and handling. The organization will initiate discussions with appropriate government officials, several of whom have indicated that current policies are open for discussion.

Purpose: To attract public attention in Toronto about the 1970s mercury contamination of the Grassy Narrows community from an upstream pulp mill by holding a public talk on the 40th anniversary of the poisoning, and organizing a public march (on World Health Day) to restart negotiations to strengthen Ontario's guidelines and polices around water protection. A recently published study on the health of Grassy Narrows residents showed that the health impacts of mercury poisoning are substantially worse than they were in the 1970s.

Purpose: To support alternative, urban agriculture that reduces transportation costs associated with food imports and facilitates healthy food choices. Funds will support the cultivation of up to one million bulbs of garlic on boulevards and easements within the city of Saskatoon as part of the Saskatoon Garlic Self-Sufficiency Project.

Purpose: To conduct research on the impacts of shipping noise on killer whales in the waters of British Columbia, especially in the Johnstone and Haro Strait. If findings show that noise negatively impacts the whales, further regulation of shipping may be necessary.

Purpose: To support a four-day Action Camp around several proposed pipelines that threaten several sensitive ecosystems, including those of the ‘Unist’ot’en territories. The Camp will bring together impacted community members and environmental groups from Alberta, Minnesota, and North Dakota and will focus on building a strategic action plan to stop the pipelines; train participants on Non-Violent Direct Action; and educate participants on carbon trading.

Purpose: To support the organization as it transitions into a self-sustaining research facility. Additional activities include a fundraising campaign aimed at establishing an endowment and hiring an on-site manager.

Purpose: To support the creation of a community garden and greenhouse. The organization promotes sustainable agriculture and local economic development in the San Francisco neighborhood of Mulegé, Baja California Sur.

Purpose: To better the nutrition and quality of life in the Tututepec community by engaging in public awareness campaigns, promoting the use of medicinal plants, and hosting workshops on nutrition and natural product use. The ultimate objective is to reclaim the traditions of medicinal plant use and promote economic activity for women.

Purpose: To file a land claim to stop the forced relocation of 19 Tarahamura families in Mogotavo, an unjustified process caused by the construction a luxury resort that would physically divide the community and destroy some of the most sacred sites in the area. In addition, Tierra Nativa will file legal claims to support the Pima community of Yepachi to cancel legal contract between a mining company and the community, which ceded traditional lands without free, prior and informed consent.

Purpose: To support a variety of activities including community outreach, the placement of waste containers in the community, technical trainings on waste composting, and workshops on sustainability and carbon footprints. The organization promotes recycling, solid waste management and Villa Juarez, Santiago Ixcuintla, Nayarit,

Purpose: To implement sustainable development activities in Mexico and promote public participation of local communities. Efforts will be organized to produce and disseminate materials on the effects of the Las Cruces Dam project in the Huitiupan, Chiapas community.

Purpose: To promote sustainable resource management in Baja California through environmental education programs and critical self-reflection. An "Environmental Education Instrument" will be developed and used in secondary schools and universities in Ensenada to create an interactive photography exhibit on topics of water, energy, plants and animals, humans, and the natural world.

Purpose: To support sustainable development in the El Tortugo community by promoting the sale of locally sourced fishing products and the development of fishing cooperatives. Funding will help local fisherman secure materials to harvest crabs sustainably, conduct a study of fishing activities, and identify possible sources of crab provisioning throughout the year.

Purpose: To raise awareness of climate change's effects on communities in the global South. Funds will be used to send organization members to the 16th Conference of the Parties in Cancun to participate in a peaceful march with other indigenous groups and organizations.

Purpose: To sustain community development in Mexico and promote public participation in community issues, such as the construction of a hydroelectric dam in the area. Meetings will be organized to educate people about the negative socio-environmental impacts of the dam, as well as the importance of protecting the region's culture and territory.

Purpose: To promote environmental conservation and restoration in Ensenada through technical studies, as well as scientific and legal efforts. An environmental impact assessment will be conducted regarding the operations of the Amaya Curiel construction company; findings will be presented to the region's Federal Tribunal.

Purpose: To conserve marine turtles by hosting a turtle farm, promoting ecotourism, implementing environmental education initiatives in schools, and cleaning local beaches. Funds will be directed toward supporting community outreach initiatives, rural ecotourism events, turtle farms, beach cleanups, and environmental education work.

Purpose: To promote the sustainable management of natural resources in Baja. The conservation and inventory of native flora will be studied by means of data collection and photographs of each species to determine plant coverage and population.

Jaguar monitoring work will be accomplished by equipping six communities with cameras, binoculars, GPS devices, batteries, and memory cards, as well as acquiring uniforms for 56 community members to engage in monitoring activities.

Academic support and assistance will be provided to host the Second Workshop of the Conservation of Dunes and Wetlands in Xalapa, Veracruz, where a document will be presented regarding the coastal law legislation.

Purpose: To better the quality of life for communities around Ensenada and protect indigenous customs and traditions through environmental protection initiatives. Purpose: To raise awareness of social and environmental issues among communities throughout Baja California Sur by using film. Funds will offer general support to the organization's filmmaking and awareness raising efforts.

Purpose: To monitor marine ecosystem health in the Bay of Los Angeles. Funds will support environmental education workshops and programs focusing on the whale shark, a species of significant tourism value to the area.

Funds will be used to implement activities such as increasing the capacity of local wood and glass artisans by hosting an artisan market, as well as collaborating with other non-profits to raise environmental awareness in schools.

Purpose: To increase the survival rate of turtles facing difficult environmental and breeding conditions on Los Corchos Beach in Santiago Ixcuintla, Nayarit. Efforts will include assisting in the incubation and release of baby turtles, documenting and registering the number of turtles released each season, launching protection campaigns with local communities, and inviting schools to visit the rehabilitation camp.

Purpose: To improve the living and health conditions of youth and better prepare them to overcome social and environmental threats. Sporting, cultural, and social events that revolve around environmental themes will be organized to increase community involvement and create a forum on youth and environmental issues.

Purpose: To conserve wildlife, with special attention directed toward animal species that are endangered as a result of hunting. Funds will also be used for work on wildlife management plans and the protection of natural forest habitats.

Purpose: To conserve wild flora and fauna in the El Sanjon region. Funds will be used to support a green iguana farm in Tututepec and increase the farm's capacity to raise the animals.

Purpose: To protect the whale shark, a threatened species in the Bahia de los Angeles. Funds will provide continued support to the organization's efforts to promote conservation among youth.

Purpose: To establish a permanent store in La Paz's Museo de La Ballena (Whale Museum) to sell the organization's fair-trade, sustainable products. The museum attracts an increasing number of tourists, the store will be a chance for a more reliable revenue stream.

Purpose: To support conservation and sustainable development in nortern Sonora, through the disemination of public information on the Biosphere Reserve of the Upper Gulf of California and the Colorado River Delta Wetlands Ramsar site at Bahia Adair. Funds will be used to support the legal registration of the civil association, Centro de Interpretacion Ambiental de Bahia, AC.

Purpose: To improve the livelihood of rural communities by promoting sustainable energy use. Funds will equip the communities of Santa Maria Cuquila and San Miguel Progreso with energy efficient stoves in order to reduce the environmental impact associated with high demands for fuel wood in the areas.

Purpose: To support sustainable development and social justice in the city of Escuinapa. Funds will support workshops to increase youth and student participation in local and regional democratic processes.

Purpose: To mobilize local communities against destructive mining practices, especially those that are contributing to climate change. Funds will help the organization develop representation among communities from Southern Mexico at the 2010 United Nations Climate Change Conference through local meetings, workshops, and information dissemination.

Purpose: To promote sustainable development and conservation for the 18 ejides in the Sierra de Vallejo area of Nayarit that make up the habitat of the endangered native jaguar. Purpose: To promote environmental awareness through art in the communty of the Baja Caliorniat School, specifically through educational programs that teach children the significance of art and storytelling as means of stregthening conservation and sustainability efforts. Purpose: To establish partnerships for environmental conservation and restoration with like-minded organizations. Funds will be used to conduct technical studies, as well as legal and scientific efforts to further the cause of environmental issues in the region.

Purpose: To promote community development, sustainable economic growth, and cultural heritage through the production and promotion of traditional goods in Santiago Ixcuintla. Funds will support the group's legal registration as well as environmental education and small-business development workshops.

Purpose: To raise awareness on environmental damage and educate local communities regarding ways to protect the planet and local resources, such as clean-up and recycling campaigns. A recycling campaign will be launched, murals painted, and letters written that communicate ecological messages. The group will also work to rehabilitate green areas.

Purpose: To protect the rich biodiversity of wetlands in the Tepic area. The wetlands, which support thousands of migratory birds each year, are being threatened by development, including a proposal to build a shopping mall.

Purpose: To support the establishment of a seed bank that will be managed by a coalition of indigenous communities. The organization works in the Sonora region to promote local biodiversity by preserving the cultivation of traditional medicinal plants and other native species and advancing alternatives to pesticide use in the area.

Purpose: To build the organization's capacity to carry out research projects in the natural sciences and social development sectors. Funds will support the formalization of the organization's programs and the purchase of capital equipment like laboratory instruments.

Purpose: To provide general support for this charitable organization, which reaches out to donors to leverage their entry into the field of social justice philanthropy. Grantmakers Without Borders uses several approaches to do so, including creating new international donors, moving current international donors into social justice philanthropy, and improving the quality and effectiveness of international giving.

Purpose: To address the challenges of protecting human rights in mining areas. Funds will support the travel of activists from Guatemala, El Salvador, and Mexico to the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights for a thematic hearing requested by the Center for International Environmental Law and 13 other organizations.

Purpose: To allow for greater efficiency in marine planning activities by creating an online Marine Analysis System, which will provide access to raw data, maps, and analyses collected by the organization’s British Columbia Marine Conservation Analysis project. The project collected over 200 data sets from a diverse range of topics, including ecological data, physical marine data, and human-use hotspot data, as in commercial and recreational fishing sites.

Purpose: To support efforts to protect the glass sponge reefs of British Columbia , which provide vital habitats to a wide range of marine animals, through designation as World Heritage sites. Since reefs must be protected under Canadian law to achieve such designation, funds will be used to work with stakeholders and other organizations to secure national protection of the Hecate Strait glass sponge reefs, and interim protection for the smaller southern sponge reefs off the Sunshine Coast and in parts of the Strait of Georgia.

Purpose: To extend the ban on bisphenol A and campaign to eliminate the chemical from the linings of all canned food products. Specifically, the organization will continue to offer timely and informative material to consumer groups that will help to catalyze demand for federal legislative action on the issue.

Purpose: To protect Ontario's Boreal forest, the largest wild forest ecosystem in North America, by funding a project to train 12 indigenous youth leaders to work in their communities and defend their traditional lands from unwanted logging and mining. The program will be heavily focused on providing tangible skills, such as how to organize a direct action, how to build a coalition, campaign strategies, media relations, and video-making for activists.

Purpose: To assess the long-term health of the Pacific white-sided dolphin population in British Colombia, through field research and statistical analysis. If, as preliminary studies indicate, the population is in decline, the project will trigger the reassessment of the dolphin under Canada’s Species at Risk Act.

Purpose: To support the second gathering of indigenous leaders and activists from Canada and hire 5-10 field organizers to produce materials and support the organization's campaign objectives. Previous gatherings have brought as many as sixty indigenous leaders and activists together from across Canada.

Purpose: To support a research assistant so the organization can expand its public awareness and advocacy campaign calling for a moratorium on open net salmon farming in the Broughton Archipelago of BC. The organization works to secure effective government protection of wild fish populations.

Purpose: To analyze acoustic habitat loss along the coast of British Columbia, with the goal of assessing threats to the Humpback and Killer Whale populations, both of which are considered at-risk species. The findings of the analysis will be incorporated into a First Nations and environmental marine conservation campaign.

Purpose: To support the organization's Salmon Aquaculture Campaign in negotiating interim wild salmon measures with industry representatives. Specifically, the organization will work towards regulatory reform at the provincial and federal level and expand the focus of the campaign beyond the Broughton Archipelago.

Purpose: To highlight the role of small grants in supporting global environmental conservation at the International Union for Conservation of Nature World Congress in Barcelona. The National Environmental Trust is devoted to supporting the capacity of Canadian environmental organizations, with particular attention given to smaller, community-based groups.

Purpose: To enable representatives to travel to the First Nations National Day of Action in Toronto. The meeting will be held on the front lawn of the legislature to call for a stop to development on indigenous lands with prior consent from landowners.

Purpose: To cover costs associated with the group’s legal registration and other formalizing activities. Centro de Capacitacion Para la Sustentabilidad Ambiental promotes local environmental conservation and activism in La Paz.

Purpose: To assist in planning for the Third International Meeting for Dam-Affected People and their Allies in Guadalajara in October, 2010, which will bring together more than 350 water activists from 70 countries. Otros Mundos will offer technical and logistical support for event preparation.

Purpose: To give general support to organizational operations. The organizations works to promote the use of energy efficient stoves in the community as a means of improving public health and reducing environmental impact.

Purpose: To plan and operate a marketing and commercialization program that will establish a centrally located cheese factory, whose brand will be marketed at local and eventually national markets as an organic product. The organization seeks to decrease the impacts of cattle farming on the Sierra Gorda Biosphere Reserve, one of the most biodiverse protected areas in Mexico.

Purpose: To improve the labor conditions of workers in Mexico's electronic industry by reducing their exposure to dangerous and toxic substances including lead, cadmium, flux, copper, tin, and others. Specifically, the organization will provide toxic substance handling training to workers groups in Reynosa and Guadalajara.

Purpose: To participate in the Mexican Movement of Dam-Affected Peoples in Tecamacapulin, a community threatened by the Zapotillo dam project. Specifically, the meeting will allow for networking, strategy development, and analysis of previous campaigns.

Purpose: To support the organization's campaign activities within Mexico and regionally, as the Latin America hub organization for the International Persistent Organic Pollutants Elimination Network. Additional activities include advocating for the reduction of pesticides and a moratorium on the use of mercury in the health care industry.

Purpose: To defend the rights of two indigenous groups in Chihuahua: the Mountain Pima community of Yapachi, which is threatened by four to six new Canadian-owned mining projects on their land, will use funds for community organizing and direct negotiations with the foreign company to establish a precedent for socially responsible mining. The other group, the Tarahumara community of Mogotavo, will use grant funds to support a legal action against a tourism development company seeking to forcibly relocate 19 families living on the rim of Copper Canyon.

Purpose: To demonstrate environmentally friendly alternative livestock production through ten pilot farms. The project aims to reduce ranching's negative impacts on ecosystems, spread a plan to promote the intensive production of semi-confined livestock along with the withdrawal of livestock from the forests, and to create efficient and profitable production processes.

Purpose: To raise awareness among international policymakers about the negative environmental impacts of using DDT as an anti-malaria agent. Organization representatives will meet with US and international legislators who will be discussing strategies for malaria control in Africa and will present case studies of successful malaria control using sustainable, non-toxic approaches.

Purpose: To support management training and organization building activities. The organization works to promote coastal conservation through education programs, seminars, workshops, and conferences.

Purpose: To support a non-violent direct action outside of the US Office of Surface Mining in Denver to protest a permit to reopen a mine in Black Mesa, run by Peabody Coal; the goal of the direct action is to gain media coverage of the issue. This multicultural organization represents the Hopi, Dine, and Xicano peoples and is dedicated to protecting the health and sustainability of natural resources.

Purpose: To fund a non-violent direct action training camp in Alberta, to support actions at the TransCanada Energy offices in protest of a proposed Alberta Utilities Commission oil pipeline. The mission of this organization is to empower the Lubicon people to defend their rights.

Purpose: To support the Sustainable Seafood and Sustainable Aquaculture programs, both of which aim to address the destructive effects of Canada’s haphazard ocean-management practices. The Foundation works through science and education to support the balance of human society and the natural world.

Purpose: To promote public awareness of the health risks associated with bisphenol A, a chemical found in many plastic food and beverage containers that has been proven to have harmful effects on human health. Activities include developing a set of online education tools, cultivating a coalition of consumer groups to mobilize around the issue, and carrying out an advocacy campaign aimed at retailers.

Purpose: To enable the field station to transition into a self-sustaining research facility. This research organization promotes the restoration of the wild salmon and orca whale populations of the Echo Bay area.

Purpose: To promote aquaculture reform in coastal regions; specifically, to prevent the expansion of net cage salmon farming and to promote closed containment farming systems. They will work with First Nations representatives, eco-tourism operators, commercial fishermen, and local businesses to collaborate on this campaign.

Purpose: To enable a representative to attend a conference on submarine tailings disposal in Papua New Guinea. The conference will serve as a key space for civil society, industry, and government representatives to shape global policies on submarine tailings.

Purpose: To support a First Nations marine monitoring program, in collaboration with the Namgis First Nation in the Broughton Archipelago. The goal of the program is to develop an accurate marine health indicator system, in order to track ecosystem health and development impacts.

Purpose: To fund 'Rendezvous 2008', a training and networking event for activists and community members interested in environmental protection. Participants include First Nation communities, immigrants, elders, forestry workers, and other stakeholders.

Purpose: To enable seven community members to attend the Keepers of the Water conference in British Columbia, which will focus on the Peace River and Arctic Ocean Basins. This organization was formed to strengthen the capacity of First Nations to address the impacts of industrial development, by acting as a liaison between indigenous groups, industry, government, and community members.

Purpose: To support the Kitchenuhmaykoosib tribe in enforcing their land rights against the Platinex mining company. The tribe has declared a moratorium on resource development on their lands, which is now being threatened by mining interests.

Purpose: To enable three members of the Kichwa community from the Ecuadorian Amazon to travel to Saskatchewan to spend several weeks meeting with communities and doing presentations at festivals, public events and schools about the links between struggles for forest protection in the Amazon and the Boreal. This organization works to bring the perspectives of traditional land users and First Nations to Canadian youth through field trips and school presentations.

Purpose: To hold a three day gathering of representatives from different First Nations across Canada. The goal of the meeting is to share experiences and strategies and to create a network for future action.

Purpose: To create a Center for Analyses and Action on Toxic Substances and their Alternatives. The Center will serve as a regional hub and action center covering three programmatic areas: Persistent Toxic Substances and Chemical Safety; Sustainable Health Care (especially regarding the elimination of avoidable toxics and medical waste reduction); and Alternatives for Non-Combustion Technologies and Zero Waste projects.

Purpose: To support the Whale Museum's efforts to rescue and reconstruct two recently discovered whale skeletons. The Museum works to increase public knowledge of whales in order to promote their conservation.

Purpose: To develop environmental education programs and support improvement of the organization's facilities. El Pescadero is the only secondary school in the community of El Pescadero and is working to develop environmental education programs.

Purpose: To construct two lifeguard towers, hold community outreach events, and send representatives to a attend a lifeguard training program in Oaxaca or San Diego. The organization promotes marine conservation and marine safety through educational programs and a volunteer lifeguard program.

Purpose: To purchase 10 computers, set up a network, and hold classes for youth in Ligui, a rural community outside Loreto which lacks library and internet resources. The organization works to equip its 29 students with the skills needed for employment and higher education.

Purpose: To develop and construct a community gym, which will offer employment opportunities and will help to improve community fitness and health. Las Margaritas Isla del Conde works on sustainable, income-generating projects for women in its community.

Purpose: To fund the opening festival of a new solid waste management program at a rural school located 20 minutes south of Todos Santas. Escuela Primaria Simon Bolivar working to improve environmental education and practices at the local collection center by bringing together a team of students, parents, teachers, and volunteers.

Purpose: To build capacity and cover the costs associated with workshops on agriculture, composting, and sustainable waste management practices. Gender, Environment, and Health promotes environmental health and gender equality in the Rainbow Colony, a marginalized area of Hermosillo, Sonora.

Purpose: To provide scholarships to five journalists across Baja California Sur and Sonora for their articles on sustainable development. Funds will also be used to reproduce and disseminate the a compiled publication of their work, and to raise awareness of the project in their communities.

Purpose: To provide general support towards the conservation of natural lands and resources in Nayarit through sustainable development initiatives. Mataiza Tortugas seeks out community tourism plans that bring a more adequate use of their natural resources and human capital, as well as a more sustainable alternative to large and destructive tourist development projects.

Purpose: To provide general support for the meeting center and training space for women and women’s groups in rural communities near Alamos, Sonora. The Rainbow House seeks to expand the capacity and leadership role of these groups, whose work includes advocacy related to environmental and human rights.

Purpose: To support capacity building through English courses, the acquisition of food/beverage permits, and furniture for the office. NatureArte Ecotorism Agency is a cooperative of ecotourist guides working to expand economic opportunities for communities residing in and near key ecosystems in the northern Gulf of California, and to ensure preservation of these areas.

Purpose: To cover the costs associated with building organizational capacity as well as a public campaign to reduce litter. The grant will also be used to print and distribute educational printed materials on waste management and recycling.

Purpose: To host a youth training program that will equip participants with the knowledge and skills to act as environmental leaders in the five sections of Hemosillo most affected by air pollution. Funds will also be used for an organizational strategic planning workshop, and for the organization's legal registration.

Purpose: To support planning processes among a new network of civil society organizations. Conselva works to expand and strengthen civil society capacity in Sinaloa.

Purpose: To hold educational and capacity-building workshops in Sonora, Mexico, and Chimaltenango, Guatemala around the environmental health impacts of toxic pesticides. Communities will learn about their right to Free, Prior, and Informed Consent, and other tools to combat the unwanted use of toxic pesticides.

Purpose: To build 17 high efficiency wood stoves and to hold training workshops for a group of housewives and tortilla makers in Sonora. Organization Ciudadana Popular promotes the use of energy efficient wood stoves as the area's mesquite tree populations face increasing pressures from wood consumption for low efficiency stoves.

Purpose: To plan and purchase materials for a storage and distribution center for sustainably harvested fish products. The organizations works to monitor marine activities and to promote sustainable fisheries operations.

Purpose: To secure the organization’s legal registration and charter, and to hold a training workshop on gender violence-related legal processes for 25 participants. Red Nosotras Ciudadanas is a network of women that works to stem the rising trend of gender violence, including domestic violence, assaults in workplaces and schools, and increasing murder rates, which have been strikingly common in Sonora since 2003.

Purpose: To support participation in a meeting in Mazatlan that will allow civil society groups to discuss the effects of the regional Tourism Development Plan for Rosario-Tecapan, developing a document that outlines their collective concerns related to local environments and communities. Once the "Coalition Tecapan" has developed this statement, it will be submitted to the appropriate authorities as part of a public input process.

Purpose: To hold a training with the Yaqui Pueblo of Potam and surrounding Pueblos in Sonora about the effects of pesticides on water quality and health, to conduct water sampling, and to develop a plan to reduce pesticide contamination in the region. This alliance seeks to empower low-income women and their families, and to promote the development of indigenous communities.

Purpose: To continue with a biodiversity conservation and environmental education project in the community of El Pescadero, a small coastal town. The goal of the project is to provide education and capacity building for the residents so that they can identify environmental problems and identify and carry out appropriate remediation measures.

Purpose: To improve understanding of the impacts of exposure to hazardous chemicals among electronics workers. A documentation study of 500 workers will be completed, along with worker trainings on occupational health and safety.

Purpose: To organize the American Continental Conference Against Impunity, which will bring together diverse participants to document the impacts of International Finance Institutions on the lives of Latin American populations and environments. Participants will include human rights groups, environmental justice organizations, families of political prisoners, watchdog organizations, and lawyer guilds.

Purpose: To enable a delegation of Tarahumara representatives to travel to Mexico City, in order to present concerns to the government about large-scale logging on their traditional lands. The Tarahumara are currently negotiating a case to restore their traditional community land rights in the Coloradas de la Virgen region.

Purpose: To finalize its community-based marine management program. This program will improve tourism and marine management in the Akumal region.

Purpose: For general capacity-building support of this organization, which works to design solutions to environmental problems in the United States-Mexico border region. Focus areas include women's health, energy and climate change, and coastal tourism.

Purpose: To enable this Greengrants Alliance of Funds partner to participate in the October 2008 International Union for the Conservation of Nature (IUCN) World Congress in Barcelona to highlight the lessons and role of small grants in supporting environmental conservation around the world. Purpose: To document hazardous air pollution, and to develop a campaign to fight for community rights to a clean environment. The organization works to strengthen community action related to environmental health issues include toxics, hazardous waste, chemical pollution, and industrial emissions.

Purpose: To conduct an environmental photo survey of the La Paz area. The organization uses new approaches and mediums to raise awareness about local environmental resources and issues, as well as life on the area's ranches.

Purpose: To support a medicinal plant cultivation project. The group will work with youth to grow and market endemic medicinal plants in the region.

Purpose: To continue public awareness and environmental education campaigns on the issue of wildlife trafficking, as well as strengthening partnerships and collaborative efforts with like-minded organizations. Purpose: To raise awareness about environmental issues among the area's youth. Specifically, the organization will focus on promoting community involvement in environmental protection projects and activities.

Purpose: To build two cabins that will offer free accommodation for volunteers and experts involved in the organization's Community Center. Specifically, funds will contribute to buying materials, labor costs, furniture, and a solar energy system for the cabins. The organization strives to promote alternatives for a more just and equitable community development process.

Purpose: To develop a community museum for the inhabitants of Santa Rosalita, that will display artifacts collected in the area and will provide visitors with information on the history of the town's settlement. The organization works to improve the quality of life of their community by allowing for sustainable use of their natural resources and sustainable development.

Purpose: To educate families marginalized in peripheral regions of Enseneda about the principles and values of the Earth Charter global initiative, and about their environmental rights. Additional activities include a project to improve waste management in these areas.

Purpose: To produce a video and photographic content for the Peninsula Project and print various materials, as well as update the project's website. Specifically, the organization will hold ten workshops focused on environmental issues.

Purpose: To increase awareness about the harmful risks associated with pesticide use. This organization carries out pesticide education campaigns in Huichole indigenous communities in Jalisco, Nayarit, and Durango.

Purpose: For general support of this organization, which reaches out to donors to leverage their entry into the field of social justice philanthropy. Grantmakers Without Borders uses several approaches to do so, including creating new international donors, moving current international donors into social justice philanthropy, and improving the quality and effectiveness of international giving.

Purpose: To support the British Columbia Marine Conservation Analysis, a collaborative project designed to provide resource managers, scientists, decision-makers, and other stakeholders with better information related to planning and management of Canada’s Pacific waters. An atlas will be created that identies areas of high conservation value through spatial analysis.

Purpose: To support participation from First Nation communities in an alliance-building meeting, in which participants will share experiences and work to create a stronger movement for environmental conservation. Wild Earth organizes this event to bring together grassroots environmental groups from South Coastal British Columbia that face a variety of socio-environmental challenges.

Purpose: To hold a workshop at Raven's Creek as part of the Hollow Water First Nation program, which focuses on communication strategies, nonviolent disobedience, art as advocacy, international law, and children's activities. This organization works to build civil society capacity among indigenous peoples of Canada, so that they can better defend their lands against large scale resource extraction pressures.

Purpose: To continue campaigning along the coast of British Columbia to bring about lasting solutions to the negative ecological impacts of salmon farming (aquaculture); specifically, to win industry commitment to closed containment technology, which is less threatening to the environment and biodiversity. Georgia Strait Alliance's mission is to protect and restore the marine environment and promote sustainability through public education, advocacy, and public policy work.

Purpose: To continue a biodiversity conservation and environmental education project in El Pescadero, with the goal of enabling the residents of this small, coastal, rural community to identify environmental problems in the region and design appropriate solutions. Sistemas Naturales y Desarrollo is a research organization that examines natural resource distribution, use, and degradation throughout the Nayarit region of Mexico.

Purpose: To produce a documentary of the Immigrant Trail, with the goal of educating the general public about the role international financial institutions have played in the migration of peasant farmers from Mexico to the U.S. The mission of this organization is to promote campesino-led sustainable agriculture development, and is a member of the Campesino a Campesino movement.

Purpose: To provide general operating support for this organization. It seeks to promote the cultural identity of Nayarit state through activities such as eco-art festivals and environmental education.

Purpose: To construct an information center that will serve as a place to receive information, education, and other services for this low-income community, in order to improve the quality of life, the status of women, and the health of the environment. This organization seeks to improve the wellbeing of marginalized sectors of society, including women, youth, and the elderly.

Purpose: To introduce sustainable management techniques to oyster farmers in Sinaloa and Nayarit. This group organizes and builds skills among the families involved in the oyster industry to promote sustainable oyster harvests.

Purpose: To enable the coordinator of this organization to attend the Pesticide Action Network's International Conference in Penang, Malaysia. The theme for this year's meeting is Convergence Towards Common Action and Strategies on Protecting Human Health and the Environment.

Purpose: To support the development of a small business network of women-run cooperatives based on principles of sustainability and environmental protection. Funds will be used to increase the skill base of the cooperative members to create new products.

Purpose: To hold a series of capacity-building workshops run by the North-South Indigenous Network Against Pesticides throughout the Mexican states of Sonora and Sinaloa. The International Indian Treaty Council works to promote the sovereignty and self-determination of indigenous peoples.

Purpose: To rehabilitate a site that has been illegally used as a solid waste dump. This is a women-led organization that aims to unify the San Evaristo community around projects that improve their quality of life and the environment.

Purpose: To assist in the coordination of the integration of regional organizations, with the purpose of facilitating the exchange and diffusion of information and services related to sustainable development. This alliance aims to build environmental awareness among the coastal communities of Nayarit.

Purpose: To enable leaders of Via Campesina, an international peasant and indigenous peoples movement, to attend a grassroots meeting based on the format of the World Social Forum in Chiapas. The meeting will allow grassroots leaders to strategize on how to address issues of globalization, resource exploitation, and international trade.

Purpose: To improve protection of key fishing grounds and enforce environmental laws. This organization is comprised of twenty local fisherman who practice traditional fishing techniques.

Purpose: To host leaders of Via Campesina, an international peasant and indigenous peoples movement, to attend a grassroots meeting based on the format of the World Social Forum in Chiapas. The meeting will enable grassroots leaders to strategize on how to address issues of globalization, resource exploitation, and international trade.

Purpose: To fund travel for a member of RAPAM to attend a conference on persistent organic pollutants, to be held in Dakar, Senegal. The RAPAM representative, an expert responsible for the campaign to eliminate the use of DDT in Mexico, will present his experiences and exchange ideas with others.

Purpose: To repair the roof of the organization, without which it cannot function. Also to translate the Memorandum of Understanding that FASOL, as a member of the Greengrants Alliance of Funds, will sign with Greengrants.

Purpose: To organize a workshop to discuss environmental legislation related to fishing, agriculture, tourism, and hunting. Purpose: To complete a ecotourism project, including cabins and a dining room, to provide services for tourists hosted by the community. The ecotourism project generates income for the community and promotes sustainable resource management.

Purpose: To improve this group's environmental education center so that it is more accessible to the public. This group works to preserve the flora and fauna of Baja California through education and animal protection efforts.

Purpose: To develop eco-tourism projects as sustainable economic alternatives for this alliance of eight coastal communities. Especially given the significant development pressures faced by this region, promoting community partnership around economic development is crucial.

Purpose: To support Six Nations in their struggle to gain legal rights to a portion of their traditional lands. Six Nations seeks also seeks compensation for abuse of their land and treaty rights.

Purpose: To fund a meeting of elders from the Muskrat Dam community, in order to consider supporting a standing moratorium on mining and other resource development in the forests of the Far North. The area has been subject to exploratory drilling by the multinational company De Beers.

Purpose: To help 165 families of the Tarahumara community of Choreachi gain legal title to their lands. The lands in question have been encroached upon by neighboring mestizo communities that have a history of violence against the Tarahumara communities and have been illegally logging their lands for years.

Purpose: To support restoration of the Colorado River Delta. The activities funded include a reforestation program, environmental education, and the production of artisanal crafts.

Purpose: To extend the "clean campaign" of Magdalena Bay. Funds will be used for water-testing chemicals, upkeep for the boats used to transport volunteers to testing areas, and an 'adopt-a-kilometer' program to keep local roads garbage-free.
