WARNING: Suspicious Activity Targeting Global Greengrants Fund

Unfortunately, it has come our attention that several online scams are taking place targeting Global Greengrants Fund. For example, fake “agents” from hacked accounts on Facebook have been sending direct messages to people saying that they can provide funding, claiming to work for Global Greengrants Fund.

These accounts are NOT in any way affiliated with Global Greengrants Fund, and they should be ignored and reported immediately. Please never give your personal or bank information to any solicitor online.

More recently, a foreign bot subscribed nearly 2,000 email addresses to receive our newsletter without the recipients’ consent, with suspicious text about financial support.

Here are the facts:

  • Global Greengrants Fund is an environmental and human rights nonprofit that gives small grants to grassroots groups recommended to us by a network of expert advisors.
  • We are a legitimate organization with an excellent ranking on Charity Navigator: the world’s largest watchdog of nonprofits.
  • Global Greengrants Fund NEVER solicits for personal or banking information.
  • Global Greengrants Fund does NOT use Facebook or any other social media to distribute grants.
  • We report scams as soon as we know about them, but, while we are vigilant, we have had little success in stopping them.

As COVID-19 continues to sweep the globe, scammers have seized the opportunity to target individuals at a rapidly increasing rate. Watch out for these scams, and please notify the police and/or the FBI if you fall victim to one.

If you notice any suspicious activity or have questions about the authenticity of a communication from us, please contact info@greengrants.org.
