Indonesia in the Wrath of Mount Merapi
Lava spewed high into the sky. Thick clouds of ash hung over nearby villages. Ash rained down on homes hundreds of miles away. The death toll has exceeded 250, and there are almost 350,000 refugees. Mount Merapi has shaken Indonesia.
US Senate on Dam Threat to Mekong River
The Xayaburi Dam would be the first dam on the lower Mekong Mainstream. It would displace thousands of people in Laos, disrupt fish migration routes and cause the extinction of the critically endangered Mekong Giant Catfish.
