After a deep and intensive consultation process with the advisory network, partners, staff, and board over the past few years, Global Greengrants Fund is proud to share a Values and Conduct Charter. At a moment when terrible tragedy and the rollback of human rights are unfolding around the world, we choose to ground our work in a sense of community and belief that the dignity, freedom, and liberty of all people is critical. In this spirit, we have committed institutional resources to developing and holding ourselves accountable to the Values and Conduct Charter, which aims to ensure all individuals who work with Global Greengrants are able to uphold and safeguard these essential rights.
We are committed to the Values and Conduct Charter as a living document that all of us engage with regularly to ensure that the stated values and principles are actions, not just words in a document, and that our work across Global Greengrants integrates and reflects these values every day. With the support of Charter Champions and the advisory network, we envision the Charter as a tool for developing and strengthening an enabling environment. We envision a culture of communication, trust, and empathy, where the health, safety, and dignity of all persons associated with Global Greengrants, directly or indirectly, is priority.
This is a critical moment in the advisory network’s evolution. It comes as Global Greengrants is in the midst of exploring and redefining our role within, in response to, and in solidarity with movements as part of the organization’s Transformative Journey. We are clarifying and strengthening organizational values and principles, and the Charter is an entry point into discussion about social justice, ethics, and integrity. While we have always worked with these values and principles, this tool aids in the creation of a more explicit understanding of them that will assist with our ability to foster them in daily practice and Commitments.
The organization is deeply grateful to the group of advisors, staff, and governance board members whose work has led to the creation of this Charter. Throughout 2024, Global Greengrants and the Charter Champions held a number of town hall meetings in which the Charter was introduced to the network in detail. The Champions worked with all advisory boards, partner organizations, and partner funds to socialize the Charter and gather signatures. The Board of Directors also signed their commitment to the Charter.
In the event of any safeguarding concerns, the Charter provides measures that ensure appropriate and effective action is taken, including guidelines for reporting and investigation. To ensure the effective implementation of this policy, Global Greengrants has appointed a Safeguarding Committee to oversee the implementation of the Charter, and to receive—and with due process, respond to—grievances.

Our commitment is to ensure a safe culture and working environment for all those who are a part of this work. This is only possible if we do this collectively, grounded in our shared values.
