Environmental Funders Network Covers New Report on Closing Civil Society Space

It is more dangerous than ever before for environmentalists to defend our shared planet. Activists around the world working to protect their land, water, and resources are facing increased threats and violence, yet continue to step up to the challenge.

Funders can step in to help. Global Greengrants Fund has collaborated with The Funders Initiative for Civil Society on a new publication to highlight what environmental funders need to know and do about closing civil society space.

This guide outlines why environmental defenders are more at risk than ever before, the impacts on environmental protection, and strategies funders can implement to help environmental defenders stay safe.

This week, the Environmental Funders Network published an article by David Gordon and Chris Allan, co-authors of the report, introducing their new research. The article calls on environmental funders to collaborate with governments, NGOs, and other funders to address the root causes of closing civil society space and to support grassroots efforts to protect the planet.

Global Greengrants Fund

Global Greengrants Fund believes solutions to environmental harm and social injustice come from people whose lives are most impacted. Every day, our global network of people on the frontlines and donors comes together to support communities to protect their ways of life and our planet. Because when local people have a say in the health of their food, water, and resources, they are forces for change.
