Global Greengrants Fund Selected to Participate in Action Coalition for the Generation Equality Forum
On July 1, the 65 leaders of the six Generation Equality Action Coalitions for the Generation Equality Forum were announced, including Global Greengrants Fund. These coalitions intend to drive action over the next five years to achieve gender equality and protect human rights for women and girls.
At Global Greengrants Fund, we support women on the frontlines of action to protect the earth. We do so by mobilizing resources to women’s environmental activists, and by supporting efforts to protect and ensure the rights of women and girls worldwide.
This is why we are so pleased to have been selected as a member of one of the action coalitions for the Generation Equality Forum. This forum is a global gathering for gender equality hosted by UN Women, and the governments of Mexico and France, in partnership with civil society.
This is a great opportunity for civil society, along with multilateral partners, to strategize and develop solutions in a united and cohesive way.
The coalitions are multi-stakeholder partnerships that mobilize governments, civil society, international organizations and the private sector to drive change for women and girls. The work is focused around the following six themes:
- Gender-Based Violence
- Economic justice and rights
- Bodily autonomy and sexual and reproductive health and rights
- Feminist action for climate justice
- Technology and innovation for Gender Equality
- Feminist movements and leadership
As a coalition member, Global Greengrants Fund will help launch a targeted set of concrete, ambitious and immediate actions within the period of 2021-2026 to deliver tangible impact on gender equality and girls’ and women’s human rights. Financing for results will be a core part of this agenda, to address systemic resource gaps that have so far hampered impact.
This leadership role is directly in line with our ongoing work on women’s environmental action, and efforts to increase the amount of philanthropic funding that is spent on women-led environmental initiatives and decision making.
