Global Greengrants Fund UK welcomes new Executive Director, Dr. Nisha Owen

(London, UK) – January 17, 2023 – Global Greengrants Fund UK, the European sister organization of Global Greengrants Fund, is thrilled to announce the appointment of a new Executive Director, Dr. Nisha Owen.

Since 2015, Global Greengrants UK has provided those in the United Kingdom and Europe with the opportunity to invest in the same network of grassroots environmental justice grantee partners and advisors who work with Global Greengrants Fund. Its first Executive Director, Eva Rehse, has set the organization up for success, and has since moved on to a role as Director of Strategy and Global Integration at Global Greengrants Fund. Following a rigorous search process, the Global Greengrants UK staff and trustees are excited to move into the organization’s important next phase of growth and strategic transformation with the leadership of her successor, Dr. Nisha Owen.

Dr. Nisha Owen is a conservationist with almost two decades of experience championing locally-led efforts to value and conserve the natural world for the benefit of communities and future generations. She played an integral role in the rapid establishment and growth of charitable foundation On the Edge, and at the Zoological Society of London, she significantly grew their flagship EDGE of Existence Programme. She also leads an IUCN group which engaged with the development of the Convention on Biological Diversity’s new Global Biodiversity Framework. Her global experience has provided a first-hand insight into the inequalities, challenges, and costs faced by grassroots efforts who are tackling pressing environmental and climate issues, making her an excellent addition to the Greengrants UK staff.

“Nisha brings a unique combination of skills, experience, and passion to the Global Greengrants Fund family,” says Chair of the Global Greengrants Fund UK Trustees, Rose Longhurst. “Few people have expertise in grassroots environmental work, science, and philanthropy, so we’re fortunate she’ll be leading GGF UK as we move into the next chapter of our story.”

As we enter the next few pivotal years in the fight against the climate crisis, Global Greengrants Fund and Global Greengrants Fund UK are committed to continuing to work with our entire network of staff, board, advisors, grantee partners, donors, allies, and more to nourish the environmental justice solutions that are creating a better future for people and planet. We look forward to collaborating with Nisha as the Global Greengrants Fund network advances that work in 2023 and beyond.
